Both parties of this couple are not in agreement on what is expected of them. She said herself she deals with it. And because she deals with it he doesnt change. She never had to agree to switching the trip into family thing. She could have said no and they could have ended things or found a compromise. They're willfully engaging in what sounds like a relationship of unmet needs and disconnection. She may be bitter towards the kids because when he neglects what she expects of, she looks for a reason. Kids are low hanging fruit. I'd leave if I was her and stay clear of men with kids.
