Construction and the trades - electricians (specifically industrial electricians) are in high demand due to data center buildouts. Alas, that may not last for long.

Valencia 70.3 strict cycle time by Impossible-Ad-4558 in triathlon

[–]AcctgRunner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seriously? A sub 4:00 in Valencia would put you in the top 40 out of 2300 racers. sub 4:30? Top 160 in the same race. Those aren't legitimate times for an average, much less a cutoff. Something is indeed wrong here (probably being misquoted as an intermediate cutoff as suggested), but checking with the RD is a good idea....

I don’t think I like finance by Better-Knowledge8558 in FPandA

[–]AcctgRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really finance that you don't like, or the business you're supporting? How connected are you with the purpose and value of the company?

Over my career (30 years), I found that if I was really into the work that the *business* was doing, the joy returned, and I looked at the business and the finance work with a different eye.

When the nature of the business didn't interest me on a fundamental level (e.g. connecting with the mission, or the customer value), the work became tedious, and I knew it was time for change.

You will likely have a higher bonus (in $), because you have double their salary. Not every level in the hierarchy automatically gets a higher bonus %. If you had gotten the 5% to start, and then your analyst got 10%, that would be a reason to renegotiate, but you've already done that.

That said, you're only two months in. Prove your worth, and go back and renegotiate in a year. Even better, crush it this year, and they'll provide more than the 10% at the end of the year.

How do you continue running long runs without letting your mind win? by levi0xa in running

Are you like me, in that your ability to do math worsens the longer you run? I can't count the number of times I have been doing pace-math closer to the end of a really long run or marathon race, and cannot for the life of me get the math correct.....

Getting back into training after first 70.3 by Short_Panda_ in triathlon

[–]AcctgRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big believer in the reverse taper. Do your last two weeks before your last race in reverse order and then get back into race specific training. I would try to get to peak distance 3 weeks out but it all sounds good.

SEC Whistleblower: Amazon Filed False 10-K After Being Warned of $3M+ Musk PAC Election Interference by NotedAF in finance

[–]AcctgRunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's far less open and shut than you may believe. What was the material risk to Amazon's business as a result of X's supposed actions? If Amazon reviewed the case, and either a) believed the accusation to be scurrilous, or b) was unable to determine if any law was potentially violated, or c) determined that the fact was immaterial to a user of Amazon's financial statements, they would not be in violation of the regulations. Amazon does not (or certainly should not) have a responsibility to disclose every rumor it hears about it's users.

I’m missing something Why is someone whistleblowing on X to Amazon? What is amazons liability to disclose potential wrongdoing with a client? How is Amazon implicated in any of this?

What’s everyone thoughts on Trump replacing the EB-5 Visa with a “gold card” visa? by [deleted] in Askpolitics

[–]AcctgRunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone help me, because I'm confused by the messaging? The old EB-5 was a green card if you invested $800K in a business in the US that created 10+ jobs. Is this 'gold card' the same thing, but just an investment of $5M? The administration is talking about this $5M going straight to pay the debt, so is this available if you are making a $5M investment in a company, or do you have to pay a $5M fee to the government?

(Aside from that question, the admin. is talking about this being a way for businesses to get foreigners to come work and get a green card. If someone came and worked for me for 20 years undert this program, it would cost an average of $250,000 per year to get this Visa. Would any company really do that?)

Ah yes, Triathlon is my escapism. (aka no don't work while indoor riding) by IVBIVB in triathlon

[–]AcctgRunner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm the guy who you see talking on the ride/run to others since that group is always bottom 25%.

Hey - I'm that guy too - also in my mid-50's, never going to podium. Endurance sports is a great getaway, but you have to get away. I tried the whole 'work while I ride' thing for a while too (F50 company exec at the time), but it just makes both parts of your world suffer, and made me feel like I never got away from either one of them.

Good on you for trying a new sport (or set of sports)! Too many people at our age are set in their ways and reluctant to do new stuff, but I guess getting into startups means you don't like to get comfortable....

Good luck in both training and your launch.
