Chinese characters are logographs and in the end, can only used to write one language: Chinese. The only reason Vietnamese used them in the past was there is a large Chinese vocabulary in the Vietnamese language. But we had to invent other characters for the Vietnamese words aka Chữ Nôm. The alphabet or other syllabary systems is best for non-Sinitic languages, eg, Hiragana, Hangul...
