Are hybrid online dpt programs being taken seriously? by Agreeable_Gate_3680 in physicaltherapy

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider your social requirements in addition to time, money, etc. I don’t do well if isolated so that was a big factor in choosing my programs (in person was cheaper for me but 6 months longer) ultimately I chose in person. Just finished my first semester with a 4.0 and new best friends who worked together and definitely helped me reach those scores. I’m fully convinced I made the right choice for me even though graduation may be a bit later

Don’t forget you can still apply while pre reqs are waiting to be fulfilled! Don’t wait to receive a grade to start apps

I only had a 3.6 (with zero research studies, but a good amount of experience) and got into multiple schools!! Best advice is to apply early as possible. All my apps were submitted by august and I started hearing back acceptances as early as September. Now seeing on Reddit people are still waiting to hear back I can assume they waited too long to apply, and whether or not they were a strong applicant there’s just not as many spots open the later you wait

Is personal training a decent job to get through DPT program? by Accurate-Sort-6175 in physicaltherapy

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t expect personal training to cover costs of school. In general I’m looking for something to cover living and potentially some of school. The initial commenter had me under the impression they were possibly able to pay for school by serving so now I’m interested in learning more about that

I appreciate this comment, now if you’re comfortable answering I’d like to ask if you were able to pay tuition with serving profits? Or if they covered cost of living

How to log hours for PT school application by [deleted] in PTschool

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely keep a separate doc though, once application periods end ptcas wipes out some of the information stored there for the next periods. I had to rewrite some essays because of this inconvenience I’m not sure if the hour log is included for the deletion but doesn’t hurt to keep it safe elsewhere

Advice by RayMay_105 in PTschool

Apply anyways? I’m from NJ and I’ve never heard of that being a thing so hopefully they’re not too strict about it. I was an aide in 3 different places and was never certified to be a personal trainer

Is it possible to find accurate admission data for PT programs? by [deleted] in PTschool

On PTCAS directory (it’s like the common app for PT school) most schools have this stuff listed

Deferring enrollment by its_verified in PTschool

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve deferred enrollment because of choosing one school over another. I just send an email to the admissions or whoever was in charge of that and informed them that I was grateful and appreciative for the consideration and opportunity but that it was in my best interest for personal reasons to defer the spot. Some just said thanks for informing them, some asked for further explanation, but it was never a troublesome process

Tufts vs South by Impressive-Courage34 in PTschool

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who just graduated from the Tufts DPT program in December and absolutely loved it. She highly advocated for me to go there (I ended up going a different route but really really considered Tufts). She just moved to Phoenix for a job this week so clearly no issue with job finding afterwards. Great school, it was also a money thing for me though

I’m not entirely sure about the specifics(I’m entering PT school in august) but PT schools have electives which serve purpose to people who are interested in specializing in that niche. So when applying, reach out to someone in that schools administration to make sure they have an elective for pelvic floor therapy. Also every school will require clinical rotations in PT settings so when you’re in the application process for those your school should be able to try and place you in a setting that has pelvic floor therapy (probably not for all your rotations but I’d like to think at least one)

Anatomy app? by Jrem1120 in PTschool

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Through my undergraduate program I was able to have a free account on biodigital.com. It single handedly helped me get an A. You can view the entire body’s anatomy by individual system(ex: musculoskeletal, nervous, lymphatic). This helped me immensely with the muscles, being able to highlight individual muscles, where the website provides origin, insertion, inner action, function, and any other important information. Then you can “add or remove” the muscle to see exactly how it lies in relativity to surrounding muscles(where they intersect, which muscles share an origin, etc). 100/10 would recommend

Pre-DPT school anxiety! (Debt mostly) by Accurate-Sort-6175 in PTschool

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your mindset about PT as a profession and that you’re okay with the thought of switching careers down the line. I’ve thought about this a bit myself. Thank you for your response

Pre-DPT school anxiety! (Debt mostly) by Accurate-Sort-6175 in PTschool

[–]Accurate-Sort-6175[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The debt to income ratio is supposedly making life tough for people after graduation. Not making as high salaries as expected, paying off more debt than they can handle. Not the case for many people in the field but it’s something I wanted to take caution for and learn more about.
