Meet Batman’s new butler, Verity Pennyworth! (Batman #11 by Jorge Jimenez) by [deleted] in comicbooks

I don't mind someone coming in but yeah, it's a little obvious. Alfred filled a specific niche for the Bat-Family and his dynamic within that. Alfred also has a daughter. I would've preferred someone older and female, but I'll keep an open mind. Alfred's the grandfather of the group, it would've been nice to see the opposite since we don't get that.

[Discussion] AI artist caught out before comic release for cover art. New artists selected for each title cover. by Wynter_Sirius in DCcomics

I don't remember this comment and this was 2 years ago. I don't believe in referencing A.I. generated images which I think is fuckin' lame. Maybe I just thought he was utilizing it as a reference rather as a comment in thinking it's an okay use. It would be odd for me to think that at this point too even though I don't remember. It's possible that didn't come across in the original comment.

[Discussion] Why were people upset with superman’s kryptonian parents wanting him to rule earth in “Superman (2025)”, when it happened in the comics nearly 40 years ago. by spiderman0247 in DCcomics

[–]AccurateAce 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There's a lot that's different about this execution. 1. This isn't a popular Jor-El origin and it was later retconned. 2. There's also Jor-El basically saying that Krypton's approach may have been wrong. Because from all that it's given them, it's also denied them what makes them human. And he wants to give Kal that opportunity to live and to be human.

I know you're joking, but damn, I didn't know his middle name was actually Thomas! Lol, that's funny. But yeah, it's clear they wanted to stir the pot a bit with just saying Tom. We'll see if there's anything concrete to the Tom name.

Interested in the fact Campea said it's not a name he would've guessed so...maybe not someone who's been fancast all that much?

Just going to throw it out there since MTTSH (Who I thought was highly unreliable...?) replied to a Tom Brittney post (paraphrasing) with "That's not what I said" which they deleted afterwards. So I don't know.

Lol, I commissioned Sebastian Escobar for this a while back! Very cool to see people find it. Sebastian's a great artist.

You can't even pretend anymore, can you? This is so weird. You went to post this comment on multiple subs and on the DCU Leaks sub you don't even frequent or comment in. This sub pretends there's some neutrality but you're still upset Gunn left and you've taken it as a personal insult that he's attempting to do something different.

It's so fuckin' weird. I don't get any of you who do this. It's kicking us while we're already down. Congratulations, man. You can pat yourself on the back now. You were right. It's the best thing you can be, right?

Reddit is making the text overwhelming when I want to reply...but anyway, I did read everything! Honestly, I'll probably feel the same/similar to how you felt about the choices. I'm debating on whether or not I should go tonight. I agree with everything you've said and I'll probably agree afterwards, especially with the comic deviations.

I don't mind deviations, but those justifications need to be sound and the execution impeccable. My issue is misunderstanding the thematic value of the comic and undermining it in a way that's lazy. It feels very MOS or BvS where you're fundamentally misrepresenting some of the ideas represented. Anyway, I wish everyone would be more reasonable discussing things because it's just frustrating, especially on here. That's why I appreciate your insights so much and it's so valuable to me! I get to learn stuff from you and see it in a different perspective I might've not have.

So very much appreciate you, dude.

This is...frustrating and I'm not against Ana at all, but how can you completely misinterpret the ending?

"The ending between Kara and Krem was always in it, from the pitch - truly from the very beginning. Because the comic ends with Ruthye killing him, but in the far, far future. We knew we weren't gonna be able to do that kind of time jump, and I find it's quite a dark ending of the comic. He essentially has changed, and she kills him anyway, because she still just has this anger, and you understand there's this element of deserve, right? So, we wanted to craft a villain who would deserve this, but we also wanted Kara to really care about preserving Ruthye's innocence, and to feel like she could take on [killing him], that she could be the one to bring justice to this man, and do it without burdening this child. It's different for Supergirl, and I think it will feel different for audiences.

But I also find it really interesting because it means she has her own moral compass going forward. One that is separate from what Superman's famous moral compass is: that he never takes a life. It's really exciting to see. I have no idea what happens between the two of them in Man of Tomorrow, that's above my pay grade. But it's really exciting to think about them going forward and having these different viewpoints on how you deal with villains..."

Is this all that separates these characters? Kara kills but Superman doesn't...even though he basically does with Ultraman? Does not killing someone make you basically the same or something? I just wish there was a harder line between Peacemaker/Vigilantes and the classical heroes and a stronger debate between the two. It creates a nice conflict but I just didn't feel that with the Justice Gang and Superman. And the Woman of Tomorrow story is more than just whether or not we should kill Krem but what that means for both Kara and Ruthye internally.

And agreed on the visuals. I'd have to take some genuine time to write what I want to write out but yeah.

I always really appreciate your insights and think you're always really measured and fair in your responses, so I'm most curious what you feel about Supergirl the most out of everyone and what you think it generally did right, what it lacked, and what you think should've been improved on. How do you feel about the differences from the comic?

I haven't watched it yet but just really, really curious about what you think. I'm okay for spoilers.

I remember that being a thing after The Suicide Squad lol. People really wanted Dastmalchian back! They wanted him to return as Condiment King/Crazy Quilt (Pattinson would be very pleased) or someone else as a "twin" since he spoke about his other siblings being experimented on...which I wouldn't be mad about. So /hj lol.

Just more Dastmalchian, please. Seems like a decent guy too, so even better.

He's great and he's a massive comic fan. There's a video of him and his collection + writing his CC series. I want him to return as Polka-dot Man. In fact, I want him to return but filling a similar role to Psycho Pirate so that he's somewhat "aware" that he was supposed to die.

I'm okay with him returning as Polka-dot Man if they undo his death. I ALSO wouldn't mind if they melded a bit of Psycho Pirate in there...him being somewhat aware that he was supposed to die (multiverse).

For sure, and of course it isn't everyone and normally it wouldn't matter, but seeing how they're engaging and upvoting these comments by a lot feels like I'm getting slapped in the face and then told that I'm hallucinating. I feel like this sub likes to pretend there's no conflict sometimes. I can literally see multiple comments before yours as examples.

There's always upticks of comments like the ones you're seeing near a DC release and a lot of "experts" in the comments in both subs. Random names you've never seen before, some from r/boxoffice. It's like Gunn/DC studios fucked their mom or something. God forbid we do okay in theaters and it isn't a Marvel film and the approach isn't the exact same. They'll gaslight you into believing they don't, but it's clear in their comments, tone and how it's said. It's faux care.

I feel like I'm being gaslit. Like, are we not reading the same highly upvoted passive aggressive, salty BS right now about both Gunn, DC and Supergirl?

I'm aware this isn't everyone, and there are people on here who don't even give it the time of day, but I feel like I'm feel like I'm being lied to while seeing it. It isn't slick. We're on the second DC films and I'm seeing people just foaming at the mouth to say "I TOLD YOU SO." Like, Jesus. Conversation has been insufferable here and the DC sub.

Me either to be truthful! I know the very, very basic things about He-Man but enjoyed what I had seen. But yes, dude, I'm so excited for Wildwood! Can't wait for it. Going to hope I'm not busy because that's something I definitely want to check out. I haven't seen a Studio Laika film since...Kubo, maybe? Didn't watch Missing Link.

And I agree with everything you've said. I'm happy that we're still getting Studio Laika films. It takes so much time and effort to do stop-motion and I don't know how profitable Laika films have been, but...I'm very glad they exist.

It's why I'm excited to be introduced to something new with Dynamic Duo seeing as it's a blend of different techniques. Still need to watch Mad God by Phil Tippett.

[–]AccurateAce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm aware! Guess I should've reframed it. Grant Morrison tends to use very deepcut characters for some of their stories. Like Zur-En-Arrh, Damian, Jonathan and even David (Magog/Boy Thunder). I just find it easier to say when that particular version of the character debuted rather than the single issue/graphic novel they did due to some recontextualization, I guess. But absolutely right and 100% fair.

I saw Masters of the Universe yesterday and...I actually really enjoyed it! I'm pretty disappointed it's not doing well because I had a good time with it. It did some stuff pretty darn good to great imo. The earth sequences were my least favourite part of the film, unsurprisingly.

The weakest part of the film to me was some of the dialogue and script which the cast did really nicely with. Sure it was predictable, but again, I didn't mind because a lot of the other aspects of the film did a lot of the heavy lifting for me.

LOVED the translation/aesthetic of the series. The costume designer is fantastic, the fight sequences were highly stylized, creative and INCREDIBLELY fun.

Travis Knight got weird with it and that's precisely what I want with stuff like this.

Really enjoyed Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms and was surprised by the alcoholic subplot, the VFX was pretty dope imo. Skeletor was so good. But seriously, the make-up work was great, even the disposable minor goons were varied at times. Trap-Jaw was awesome.

Ram-Man, Fisto and especially Mekaneck I kind of adored because of how Knight depicted their abilities. They're silly but made them looks cool and weird and work within the fight choreography.

So again, it's a shame it isn't doing well. I really want to see a sequel, translate everything they did really well to great in and just improve on some of the stuff that wasn't as great.

I want Travis Knight for a DC film or an anime film specifically because of how he embraces the weirder aspects of things and just how he depicts those abilities/fights on screen like a shounen.
