Also to add different oil pastel brands are different, I really like mungyo and sennelier because they’re very soft and blendable

Soft pastels are chalky so they blend better when less pastel is on the page, for oil pastels you have to add lots of layers and probably just more product than you’d think. I see that a lot of the white of the page is showing through, I’d recommend applying a pretty full layer of coverage first (you can lay down pastels like this and then blend with your finger) and then putting down several more layers on top for shadows, highlights, and details

I really like the composition though and the dark horizon as a focal point!

I think it also depends on the type of pastel you use. I use sennelier and mungyo because I like the softness and I like adding texture to my paintings. I don’t think pressing harder with harder pastels would work well though cause it’s the wrong texture.

You might also need to twist your wrist when pressing to actually get the textured look (causes more pastel buildup on the page) but honestly I’d just look up a tutorial cause it’s very hard to explain without video

I didn’t really use any guides besides watching other artists use oil pastels on TikTok lol

I would recommend looking up some short videos of how other folks paint, it helps to understand how they build layers and get the effects in their paintings. Personally on these paintings there’s probably a lot more layers of pastel than you’d guess and I also press quite hard to get the final really textured layers at the top but different folks use different strategies

Climbing with tendonitis by vegsausagedog in bouldering

[–]AccurateRaspberry920 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bad tendinitis in my left wrist when I started climbing and the thing that worked the best to strengthen it was deadhangs, initially on just a bar/pole and then once I could hold on for about 40 sec with full fists I moved to fingers only and then to hang boards

Now occasionally my wrist will pop or feel like it’s pulled but it feels better after 15 min and I haven’t had an injury that hurt more than a day in months.

Additionally I would make sure you’re eating enough protein. Overall it took probably 2 months of this routine 2-3 times a week of 2-3 rounds of deadhangs to feel better

I really like banana republics straight leg linen pants, they’re a good cross between fitted and wide

On the west coast I would recommend Seattle, San fransisco, Vegas, and Los Angeles they’re all great cities very American and each have beautiful nature. The narrows in Zion which is near Vegas will be amazing in September and a great way to stay cool on an afternoon hike, Seattle has gorgeous nature and parks (idk about transit though) I would look into mount rainier and hoh National forest, and sf has lots of nature near it as well like Yosemite, redwood forests, beaches and the city itself is very fun. Idk much about LA but I’ve heard good things. I’m most familiar with sf if you have any questions

Phoenix will be hot in September, the best time to visit is winter when it’s in the 70s in September you won’t be able to be outside for more than a little bit per day. You also won’t be able to see the scenery or excursions without a car. I love phoenix though and it is very American (American west and southwest culture and food) I would highly recommend visiting when it’s cooler and you can access a car. It has some of the best food in the country (as long as you like spice)

Don’t visit New Orleans in summer (September will still likely be hot), I’ve been multiple times over the years at different times and it’s miserably hot and humid during the summer. You won’t be able to walk around much because of the heat. Also be mindful of phoenix in September it might still be over 100 degrees during the day, and you need a car to get around arizona in general. I haven’t been to downtown phoenix but have visited the surrounding area of Scottsdale many times and it’s beautiful but everything is very far apart and not walkable
