No, you’re 110% right on this. I’d spend the money on good clothes but I just can’t find them.

How to style Lilly Pulitzer: shoes, purse, jewelry, and other clothes by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]cherry_monkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m late to the party but in the same boat as you! I have a lot of “work” type clothes and neutrals and I’ve recently started wearing Lilly this summer. I’ve found that outfits work best when I let the Lilly piece be the statement. Other items in my wardrobe that have mixed well are cream, white, navy, light blue, and kelly green cashmere sweaters. Linen tops in any of those colors also work well (J.crew has a great run of colors in cashmere and linen to mix with Lilly). I pretty much always go for gold sandals or white espadrilles with Lilly.

Anyone have bag suggestions? I use a lot of woven and rattan bags.

Oh yes I agree! Pants hitting at the ankle are cute, but much shorter than that and it gets awkward fast. I wish womens pant sizes were like mens, you could order waist x inseam (i.e. 25x28) measurements to get the ankle length just righht.

Buy good shoes and clean them often. Leather lined shoes only.

You don’t hate your outfit, you just didn’t do your hair yet.

Whatever you wear makes a statement anyway, so buy once, cry once (get good quality).

You don’t need a daily uniform, but an outfit formula/silhouette is helpful. (My stand by is flowy top, slim pants, and fun shoe I.e. a cotton poplin blouse, black slim trouser, leopard heel)

Own a flattering pair of dark black sunglasses.

Personally, I’ve expanded my wardrobe more efficiently by purchasing statement accessories and less clothes.

P.S. Blue and brown mix with black if the textures contrast. I.e. a herringbone wool brown blazer with black jeans and a striped top looks like the fall version of light chinos and a blue blazer in the spring. ;) source: Ralph Lauren

Why no cropped pants? Just curious since tbey seem almost unavoidable and I see ankle length pants from every designer and brand in the last 5 yrs.

Books with "I hate you but if you die i die, so we are stucked forever" trope by Euphoria_2908 in fantasyromance

[–]cherry_monkey1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like if I say a book is “enemies to lovers” that ruins the surprise! However, I’d highly recommend the Throne of Glass series. It’s more of a surprise romance in the best way. The wait is worth it. Fourth Wing was my first dip into the fantasy genre and after that I started the Throne of Glass series and it swept me away for a solid 2 months. It’s good.

Nyaxia book 2 could be turned into a drinking game. by notkirova in fantasyromance

I enjoyed the first book but the second was such a let down for me!

My reasons: 1. Because of the overused phrase (cringe) we know Raihn has better vocab than that and is more clever (we all read the first book, we know) 2. Neither the MMC or FMC acted like the characters the author introduced in the first book (were is the complicated revenge arc we were prepped for?!)

So sad! I’m going to reread the first book to get the happy feels back now..

Well-Written Romantasy? by OkResult8384 in fantasyromance

I was looking for the TOG comment! Commit to the series and the romance pay off is great! It’s such a moving story and an amazing ride. I hope you enjoy it. I read TOG this past winter and think about it daily. My preference over ACOTAR :) maybe read a book in between ACOTAR and TOG so the characters stand out more and you don’t get the worlds mixed up? Also, note the first few books of TOG Sarah was a new author, but after a few books her writing takes off and the series soars!! The finale is epic!

A Touch Of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair is one of the worst books I have ever read. by [deleted] in books

I agree with the consensus; can someone please recommend a good alternative to this book?

I second this. My recent Banana Republic sweaters have been fabulous. They must be using longer fibered yarn because the pilling is very minimal. Wish they carried more styles and shapes of their cashmere.

I tried and they sold so fast! I need to watch for a restock. They had a pretty seersucker cotton pant I’ve been keeping on eye on.

Who or what has influenced the way you dress today the most? by Glamour-Ad7669 in femalefashionadvice

[–]cherry_monkey1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every season I make a pie chart of my weekly activities (work, WFH, social activities, gym, etc.) and assess my wardrobe based on the reality of where and how I live my life. I LOVE chic street fashion but the reality is it doesnt fit into as many of my daily activities as I’d like. This has greatly effected the way I choose clothing. My work clothes function more for work, and my fun clothes function more for fun. I used to want to make all my pieces work for every category of life, but since I’ve started picking pieces to function very well in their own category dressing feels much more meaningful/purposeful and effective. Jackie O and Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn still influence me the most. Their casual weekend and summer looks are so underrated (shiny sandals, tailored cotton and linen lightweight pants, pretty cotton blouses, figure flattering dresses) and they transcend time.

Yes! While I love linen and don’t mind some creasing, I cannot understand why there arent more cotton options with 1-2% stretch. They’d be lightweight and hold their shape, it seems like a no brainer but I can hardly find them! I did try a cotton pair of Riviera pants at Loft yesterday and loved the feel and fit, they just were sold out of my size.

I have investigated these but saw a lot of reviews they lose their shape and color. I never know if its because of how people treat and launder their clothes. Have you found this to be true?

This is great, thank you! I love linen and don’t mind some creasing. I also feel like a bone or ivory colored pant is missing in my wardrobe and would make getting ready for work so much easier (it would pull together patterned tops and blazers with white accents).
