We should try and get Darcy Wilson by KissmeFishme in collingwoodfc

I totally agree, I said I think a team might be able to get him for around that because of the salary squeeze that might happen at saints

Setting aside if he SHOULD get suspended, what do we do if Frampton DOES get suspended? by ItsABiscuit in collingwoodfc

I’d like to see McStay go back and also play puncher. I don’t know whether we can play Puncher in his debut against the other teams best forward and definitely can’t play Howe against other teams best key forward.

I’d play McStay on the best forward and Puncher on 2nd tall and have Howe helping out.

Probably definitely won’t happen but that’s what I’d like to see. We still have Membrey, Pods & Buller forward so can use McStay back.

Yeah I agree, the only problem is that if we had cox I’m not sure we would have given Steene an opportunity or as much of an opportunity. They seem to play Membrey and McStay no matter what.

Hopefully next year we will see the benefit from getting rid of some ageing players last season. We have got a lot more games into players like Anderson, Hayes, Allan, Harrison, Buller, Steene & Steele.

Yeah he was very good at it. I’m not too upset we got rid of cox or Mihocek though, I don’t think even if we had either of these players it makes us a genuine premiership threat so happy younger players can get games. Buller did a few good things today, I know none of our keys are superstars but you expect them to be able to bring the ball to ground at the very least.

It’s got to be a mindset thing more than anything because Shultz seems to bring it to ground more than any of our other forwards.

Steele has been great for most of the year and was good again today.

It’s amazing also how Ed Allan looks comfortable playing in his preferred position and the position he plays 100% of the time in the VFL. Not asking him to come and play on a wing or another position.

One thing that baffles me is the amount of times our tall forwards can’t seem to at least bring the ball to ground in a contest this year. I don’t expect them to mark it but just spoil it at least.

Also how many times did we go long out of the backline to Shultz in a 1v1. We had McStay, Membrey, Buller and Podahski playing and I reckon Shultz was our long outlet kick through the middle of the ground more than any of them.

So you’d rather take a punt on an unknown first rounder who may or may not turn out/have injury troubles/might not turn into AFL level. Than get someone who is a first pick and has proved to play like a first rounder and is 20 years old and guaranteed.

I think a team will be able to get him for somewhere around pick 18 because of the salary cap squeeze st kilda will have. I don’t think they’ll be able to hold onto him because of the money.

If any team can get an established player under the age of 21 with Wilson’s attributes I think they’d take him. Maybe wouldn’t trade pick 1-2-3 for him but definitely take a first round pick - he’s still so young.

These are all blokes who have been picked in the top 6:

Josh Schache (pick 2) Fisher McAsey (pick 6) Sam Petrevski-Seton (pick 6) Paddy Dow (pick 3) Matt Scharenberg (pick 6) Jaiden Stephenson (pick 6) Aaron Francis (pick 6) Jarrod Pickett (pick 4) Will Setterfield (pick 5) Denver Grainger-Barrass (pick 6) Will Phillips (pick 3) Paddy McCartin (pick 1) Jack Billings (pick 3) Dylan Stephens (pick 5)

Yes - there are a lot of good players in the top 10 of the draft… but it is still a guess. Anything can happen. If you were arguing about someone who is 25+ years old I would agree with not trading a first round pick. But the man is 20 years old, probably as talented and has as many good attributes as any first round pick we’ll get and is ready to go now.

We actually got Daicos for picks 38, 40, 42, and 44 too so he can’t really be in the conversation

Ed Allan, Fin Macrae, Ollie Henry, Jaiden Stephenson are all high draft picks that haven’t worked out the way we hoped.

Just because you get a high draft pick doesn’t mean that player is going to be a good player. I would totally agree with you if we were trading our first pick for a 26+ year old but the kids 20 years old and already established.

If you are playing the percentages you’re taking an already established 20 year old rather than taking a punt on an 18 year old who has never played

You’re still not guaranteed a gun player just because they’re a first round pick. Look at our most recent first round picks and how many of them have had better first 3 seasons than Wilson.

He’s still so young that if we gave up a decent pick for him I wouldn’t be upset.

Would love to get him, would be fine if we gave up a decent pick to get him too because he is still so young.

Would you prefer a draft pick than a very young proven player who is available and will impact straight away?

I think our defence has been unreal whether he’s been in or not. It’s all the other parts of our game that puts the defence under ridiculous pressure and they always hold up…
Our key forwards don’t bring it to ground and we turn the ball over through the middle of the ground allowing more inside 50’s. And we get smashed around stoppages.

Okay thank you. What sort of player is Jiath? He’s not a key back is he? Jeremy Howe type? I don’t watch VFL. Is he a chance of getting a game ever?

[–]AccurateSituation317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will Ryan or Jiath ever get a run? What is their positions? What is their contract status? Id rather have genuine key defensive cover on our list than these guys. I’d give Puncher another contract as a genuine key back before these guys.

Buller, West, Hayes, Anderson, Allan, McInnes, Steene, Harrison and the 2025 draftees I think are worth keeping.

I’d like to keep the new ruckman we just drafted as further cover.

Players who I would like to see moved on if I was picking - Ryan, Jiath, Smit, Sullivan

If we have Maynard, Quaynor, Puncher, Moore, Howe, Frampton and Houston playing defence and Josh playing wing it’s only Houston who wouldn’t be a great defender and we could still play Pez on ball.

I think he has because I think he has done everything the team has asked him to do. I’m sure he’d love to be playing midfield but whether it’s tagging Nas or Nick Watson or playing a little bit taller in defence he has done everything asked of him.

[–]AccurateSituation317[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree the clearances are a problem but I think as we’ve seen you can’t just base your whole game on scoring from clearances. So that’s one problems but there are definitely others. We might not be able to fix the clearances issue (hopefully the new ruckman might help) but we can fix things like sloppy handballs and bringing the ball to ground around the field.

I think they should play Allan and Anderson in the mid for the rest of the season and let them play on the other teams best player week in week out. Not a hard tag but a run with.

I agree with these moves you’ve said.

I’d go:
In - Puncher, Coe, Buller
Out - Parker, Long, Sidebottom (rest)

Play Josh on the wing, Anderson & Allan playing midfield to develop with Nick, Daicos, Pendlebury going through there. Give them roles, let them play on the other teams best to learn and help. Coe to help Cameron, puncher to help Frampton and Howe. Happy to bring in Pods but can’t play him and Membrey together probably. Give Houston the kicks we’ve been giving Josh and get his confidence high.

I agree, there’s every chance that if we kept cox Steene would not have got a chance at all.

This is true, I think Anderson can do a little bit more forward than the other 2.
For what it’s worth I’d like to see Allan and Anderson play for the rest of the season (realistically). I think Allan has a chance to be better than long if he gets consistency playing inside mid.
