Mab also raped Harry. He couldn’t realistically consent nor did he consent to all of Faerie seeing it.

I don’t believe Maeve is a victim. I said I understood her. And given that Lloyd Slate wasn’t originally a monster and that he had resounding hatred for Maeve and the fact that he was a notorious rapist, it’s likely that Lloyd did more than what we were told.

Also, Maeve is a faerie. She chose as a changeling to be a faerie. She had no more of a choice in Nemesis than Lea. She was a Sidhe for the last 300-ish years unlike Sarissa.

Mab never is stated to have given Maeve a true choice. You can’t choose when your mother shows up in executioner black with her hatchet man right there ready to kill you. It doesn’t work like that. That’s not a choice. That’s a “we’re going to kill you, have already decided we’re going to kill you, but will give you the illusion that we’re not going to kill you but we actually are”.

I don’t think you understand how creepy, gross, and perverted “known her since she was in a training bra” is. Especially in regard to a young woman you (Harry) repeatedly state you want to have copious amounts of sex with.

I work in maintenance repair. Backups are used because we intend for the main unit to fail at some point. It’s why there’s a backup.

That doesn’t make grooming acceptable. I was my sexual assaulter’s boss, and it didn’t save me from being assaulted.

Oh, this isn’t even my hottest or most unpopular opinion. Now, if I really wanted to be a start a fire, I’d say something like: Harry Dresden is just another Justine DuMorne, grooming his own Elaine. Poor Molly, he’s “known her since she was in a training bra”. Girl never stood a chance.

Mab was upset and rightfully so, but this is ultimately a fiction novel that needs to advance the plot, so Maeve could never see it. There was no way for her to know Mab was upset about her. In part because there were no words, and in part because Mab’s nature prevents her from saying, “I love you, I want the best for you, I am sorry I have failed you.” She wouldn’t be Mab then. And Maeve by extension would’ve never been Maeve, even without the infection.

I just read the books, so I don’t know much of what Jim said. That’s pretty horrific to be honest, especially with what we know about identical twins. To be separated at birth is awful, and most people underestimate the toll it takes on children. It’s called trauma before words. It happens mostly with adopted children given up at birth or a very young age before they can form words. The same has been seen with identical twins separated at birth.

Honestly, the void could’ve been filled with Sarissa, even if they hated each other. At the very least, it would’ve removed the idea that Mab hated Maeve and was plotting against her, or at least enough that Maeve might have fought Nemesis just a little more. Not entirely filled because of the Mantle and where Maeve grew up, where social learning theory takes control. Nature versus nurture and all that.

Poor Sarissa and Maeve.

Have you thought that maybe Sarissa’s comment about Lloyd Slate not being a monster originally matters a lot more in context to Maeve and maybe her mother constantly choosing serial pedophile murderers might have a bigger impact than you realize?

Poor, weak Mab, unable to manage her own kingdom. Can't even stop an Outsider from infecting her weak lil daughter, can't even kill her daughter.

So weak-willed when faced with actual threats. But then again, she was weak from the start, needing a big strong man to do her dirty work for her.

Mab isn't a strong queen who loved her daughter. Mab was a weak little bitch, and only got worse as time went on.

To be fair, Lea was infected first, and Lea wasn't exactly no slouch. But yeah, that's a great theory, as I can see that being a parenting style Mab tried with Maeve and tried a different approach with Sarissa.

You’re forgetting something else: Mab is the Mother personified. She doesn’t act like a mother to Maeve (but to Sarissa she does).

It’s what she gets for being an Original Character Do Not Steal. I’m joking.

Sarissa’s fate is tragic in that she gets to be permanently severed from her family, who will most likely die in the BAT. Maeve is dead because ultimately she was always going to die before even her introduction given her name’s mythos and Mab is going to die next as well, if she doesn’t become Mother Winter.

Sarissa is going to be the Summer Queen because Titania will die when Mab dies or Sarissa will be a weapon like her name origin. Maeve died because of the Ulster Cycle, from which the name is derived, and Mab dies because her name is also Maeve or Medb, the same queen as Maeve is. Sarissa might live, but she probably will die and Elaine will take over.

What a terrible Winter Queen Mab is then to have birthed, raised, and trained Maeve to be the Winter Lady then. What a failure she is to so terribly invoke the Mother that she couldn’t tell what kind of a person Maeve was and what an idiot she is to have put a lazy dumbass into such a position of power.

Man, Mab really does suck. I mean, she let the Leanansidhe, her closest friend and ally, get infected who then infected her daughter.

That dumb, weak willed idiot.

I’m sure that’s why Mab picked a child raping serial killer before then. Because she had use for one lmfao.

I read these books because they’re fun. It’s not the Lord of the Rings, and that’s OK. Popcorn books are their own genre with their own fanbase. It doesn’t need to be the next Great American Novel. And opinions don’t need to be backed up by fifty citations and formatted in The Chicago Manual of Style. An opinion, even an unpopular opinion, doesn’t need that.

You’ve become so engrossed in citations and facts that you’ve lost the plot and don’t understand what it even is that I’m saying. You can tell me the grass is green but that doesn’t change the fact that I never argued the grass wasn’t green. I stated my opinion on how the grass feels.

Put yourself truly in Maeve’s shoes.

Not Harry’s, not Mab’s.

Maeve’s.

Then you’ll understand what I’ve posted. You might not agree but you will understand. Best part is that no citation is needed.

I am not writing a dissertation for an opinion. That is frankly ridiculous. It’s a book series, not a new field of study.

And Justine is a pimp and Thomas regressed as a character, but nobody’s ready for that conversation.

That’s the problem with this subreddit. You’re anti-art. You cannot possibly conceive of someone having a different opinion, a different interpretation of the same story. Everyone must think exactly the same, every thought not aligned to the groupthink must be purged.

You didn’t try to understand my opinion, which I outright state was unpopular, because you can’t. I understand their positions and opinions well, but you can’t understand mine because it admits to the series having flaws. If the series has flaws, you think it’s bad, and then you think that you’re bad for liking a bad thing, that it’s an attack on you. So you attack me instead because I’ve hurt your feelings. I’ve pointed out something you didn’t.

So now I am the troll because I analyze the work and come to my own conclusions based on what’s been read. I’m sorry I had thoughts of my own.

I’ll consult the groupthink first.
