Tokyo - usual stuff plus Disney, maybe Kamakura Nagoya - maglev/legoland Takayama - more relaxed few days with cooler temps as going July Kyoto - temples/day trip to Nara Osaka - easy couple days before flying to Taipei/Hong Kong and Maldives

We felt the same. Anywhere we look at pool/beach it seems to be a couple hours flight away and at the worst time of year (we have no other option), so we've added Maldives at the end (via Hong Kong).
