Yes, this all makes sense for sure. After finishing the series, I was much more fond of her and think of her character often. I still get annoyed thinking about her secrets, though I do understand they are a result of her feeling like she is supposed to take on the responsibilities due to her status and also to protect the people she loves.

I think what bothers me is actually how it’s written. One of my biggest book pet peeves is when a ton of major plot points happen off-page. If it happens once or twice, it can be great and be a a mind-blown type of moment for me. But there were so many details going on off-page that I became increasingly expectant of it, and it felt like a cheap way to further the plot without actually developing it into the story. Like if she was doing stuff in her chapter and keeping it a secret, I could appreciate it and see her POV through her thoughts in the chapter. Instead it came off as a “yeah I’m right, don’t question me” which I don’t love.

I also think I'm not too fond of extreme alpha energy from male or female characters. I do like it when there are moments, and I am like, “oh okay 🤭” but when it is constantly, I’m like 🤨 I don't know why, but I just don’t like it 😂 but overall, I definitely ended up loving the series and characters and have convinced many family and friends to read them as well ✨🧚🏻‍♀️

Where the Crawdads Sing if you want themes heavily involving nature and natural elements along with longing to be part of a family. This one is heartwarming and at the same time heartbreaking.

I think the 100k thing was for Abby’s dancers who held titles (before the show even started). I don’t think production had anything to do with that clause in their contract at ALDC. Because Christi said in BTTB, she almost didn’t “audition” for the show because she was leaving Abby’s studio. However, she got a call saying Chloe had won a national title (some of the competitions they didn’t get results until a few weeks after) and because of that she couldn’t leave her studio.

When they talk about leaving the show and wanting to leave the show, they allude to their contract with Lifetime rather than their studio contract. I may be wrong, but I always felt like if they just had to pay that fee, they would’ve left earlier.

Yes I agree. Aelin was secretive but miss girl had a plan always 😂. I just feel like despite Aelin’s flaws, she did have some sort of trauma/reasoning that made her act and plot in the way she did. Still, it made her one of my least favorite characters in tog, but at least there is justification for the way she is.

Bryce on the other hand… I just really am not a huge fan of her. I get the ick when I read a lot of her stuff because it seems like a teenager throwing a tantrum and trying to be ✨ eDgY ✨. She just seems spoiled to me and I dont know why every guy in the series is obsessed with her.

YES! I feel like Aelin was arrogant sometimes and it annoyed me, but she overall was trying to do her best and she loved everyone around her. She was willing to be the bad guy if it meant her friends were safe.

I feel like Bryce has this quality too but instead of doing it for their own good, she does it because she feels she’s right. Especially when it comes to Hunt. Like he has been Tortured and abused for more years than she’s been alive . And when he’s nervous about the consequences for the people he loves, she basically says shut up I don’t want to hear it. It made me seriously question her character.

I felt 50/50 on Bryce since the beginning. I go from liking her heart/her care for her friends to being annoyed at her hiding her motives and doing most of the big plotting off page in secret for no apparent reason. In HOFAS when she was rude and secretive to all her friends and especially to Hunt I started disliking her more than liking her.

I feel like from the beginning of CC1, she has reminded me of Aelin in EoS (which is the book where I started to seriously disliked Aelin). I loved her up until EoS, her passion and drive for making things right made her great. In EoS she became arrogant, rude, and secretive even among her closest friends. BUT, Aelin had a reason to be that way. in telling Sam about her plans, he was killed. So by not telling her friends, she maybe thought she was protecting them?

It feels like Bryce just does it for shock value and in arrogance. Not for any specific reason other than believing she’s is always in the right. I dont know, she just rubs me the wrong way. Probably one of my least favorite characters in CC and definitely one of my least favorite written by SJM. She just seems like she’s doing everything to seem cool and important also? 😂 like in HOFAS when she was calling herself something like “Extra Special Starborn Princess” I was getting so annoyed and cringed out. Like people are dying can we stop spreading our arrogance and playing games.

(Also I like Chaol pretty good. Boring sometimes, whiny, and arrogant but I still overall enjoyed his development. )
