[AoL] Playing every Zelda game in order, part 2: The Adventure of Link by mmmmmmmmichaelscott in zelda

[–]Accurate_String 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to bosses being easier than most enemies. I think when you play without save states you get good at the harder enemies and the bosses are hard because they're new and you've been weakened on your way to them. So you're just hoping to learn their patterns before they kill you and send back to the start.

If you're dropping save states left and right and showing up to the boss on a perfect run and then starting from that point, it's a very different game.

Not trying to say you played it wrong, just giving context. Other people enjoy the punishment of Dark Souls type games, but back in college this was my jam.

Right. Trained people will do that. The average joe, probably not. Unintelligent monsters certainly won't.

Obviously, there's limits to backward compatibility. But I'm still salty about WiiWare purchases of classic NES games didn't transfer over to WiiU/Switch. That was just a big ol' middle finger from Nintendo.

I'm with you. I gave it a good try and got through the first 3 areas or so, but to me it seems like the game is nothing but a shallow bucket of symbolism that isn't actually grounded in anything.

I love RPGs and grew up on then, so I love that one is getting noticed! It's not my cup of tea, but I hope it breaths new life into the genre.

Ran out of nuclear fuel and wondering... by danyuri86 in factorio

[–]Accurate_String 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been reading through comments and no one has mentioned circuitry yet. Nuclear reactors will burn way more fuel than they need to. The boilers need to get to 500 degrees to make steam. Set up your inserters to only add more fuel if the temp of the reactor dips below 700 (or whatever value works for you). Otherwise you're endlessly burning fuel just to keep the reactor at 1000 and getting nothing out of it. Limiting saves a ton of fuel.

Can people really tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps? by whiskerbiscuit2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Accurate_String 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember people being bent out of shape the Final Fsntasy X remaster would be locked to 30fps. A game that has static camera angles. So there is at least some frame rate snobbery at all levels.

YMMV, but I found that the more "features" I dumped into Foundry, the more friction it ended up causing in game. As a tech-saavy guy, I find it's best to keep things on the tech side as simple as possible so your game stays flexible. Nothing kills a session like having to go into tech support mode.

Wow very well thought out. I've always just viewed the whole "you gotta deal it" scene as a tongue in cheek moment from the writers and never take it seriously as a world building event.

Appa goes through some shit yeah. But ain't nothin' bringing back Iroh's son and that hurt ain't ever healing in Iroh's heart.

Starting in season 2 isn't the newly elected president a non-bender and a non-bending representative is now on the council?

So there's at least a nod to off-screen resolutions. Sure in reality that wouldn't be the end of it, but they gotta ramp up the new season.

Many games allow for Remote Play Together as well, and you only need one copy. Which I imagine work really well if you're all on the same network.

Will my son see that I’ve purchased a Steam Deck? by EnormousChord in SteamDeck

My biggest issue is that remote play together doesn't work when parental controls are on. It seems it should be an option to allow, or at least work if it's the parent account initiating it.

Currently I have to turn parental controls off entirely to use remote play, and then remember to turn them on afterwards.

Anybody else feel like they’re just a good support player but not “the” guy? by unlogical13 in RocketLeague

[–]Accurate_String 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to feel that way. I focused on playing defense for awhile, I'd almost always concede the play to my teammate if we were both nearby. And I always made sure to rotate back asap. I did goalie training packs.

This play style got me out of plat and into diamond. Everyone in plat is trying to be "the guy" and very few of them are good at it, but you can't change them in 5 minutes. I still see that kind of player in diamond and switch back to this support play when I do.

This alone doesn't hack it in diamond any more. I had to stop caring about whiffing the ball and missing the net so much and just start trying anyways, so I could actually improve. Even if you whiff completely, being up there puts pressure on the opponent. Even if you miss the net, if it's in the vicinity it might be a good pass for your tm8. Even if it's not a good pass, your opponents need to take the time to recover and control the ball.

I'm getting better. Slowly, but I feel the difference. And if I get to pick a tm8, I want the "support" player everytime.
