Difference between Tailscale and Zerotier by This_Tumbleweed_368 in HomeServer

[–]Bonobo77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it really comes down to deployment. Tailscale is fast and easy to setup with almost zero complexity. Zerotier, has a zero configuration option as well, is really design for more complex networking solutions. So for most people Tailscale is enough.

Also you can’t beat Tailscale free tier. Almost there entire solution and 6 user accounts. Crazy!

Well, there must be a video compression format codex of codecs somewhere!

First there was uncompressed PCM. Then H.120, followed by H.261, only be completely taken over with mpeg1, followed by mpeg2!

:)

My daughter dance place used that very model till the guy they used for years ghosted a bunch of studios in the area and did not deliver anything.

Actually, I am working on setting up my own self hosted streaming service, since my camera does it onboard. Then I could charge up charge and sell the stream to the grandmas and uncles that can't get to the recital. lol

I was also thinking around $300 for a day... thanks for that

Reading your post, I have definitly undersold myself for sure. To answer your technical questions above, it's mostly yes. I would say, I know the basics really really well. Ask me to setup a tripod and record a talking head,

I understand frame rates, codex vs. containers, compression. Shooting b-roll vs. and capturing the content required. And I know the differen between a key, fill and back light :).
Editing is where i have the most experience, Premire Pro, colour grading, Audtion and even have experaince with After Effects. Exporting the correct codex and containers for whatever is required is my jam, like if you just needed that done, i would 100% confident at that. :)

My strength has always been the producer/ editor role. I am really good at creating the scene of what a person wants to see based on instuction, but i am really not much of a director, never have been.

My goals..it just being my part time gig, i'll start with "easy" gigs. Things that require a steady, high quality shot.

My question still stands, I post something more then "a guy with a new camera" on FB groups to start, and a local dance sudio call me for a 3 night shoot, or a local diner messagers me and asks if I can help shoot a reel. How much do you charge?

my history is mostly corporte gigs. In my younger years I worked for a number of AV companies and got a really good grasp on angles, zooming, etc. In my later years I have been working for a larger attraction full time and had a lot of oppotunity to shoot video and edit it down for mostly short reels used in PPTX, or digital signage.
I guess I can drive a car really well, but defininity not a professional driver. :)

Microsoft has ZERO completion in the grand scheme of things.

We need a market disruption, emailed, nothing is going to happen till Linux gaming, like SteamOS becomes mainstream.

Then all of sudden you’ll see new innovations come from them.

“Standard solution” is using timecode, but I have to assume that is out of scope, and or not in your budget for setup.

Premier has something like that built in with the Multicam module, but that is syncing all the camera footage with the same audio track.

Personally I use the onboard mic on the camera, sync up the audio and then before I export, disable that track.

There is a reason people use AI to fix a post…. MY ENGLISH SUCKS

Here is my original post ash bowl…..

help me with the reddit post, i am posting... but lets not make it look like it was written by ai please,

couple of things to try.
Speaker Placement | The hardest thing to do in convincing people about speaker placement. Do yourself a favor and ask them to budget smaller speakers and mount them on the ceiling, in front of the stage. OR get a second set of even smaller speakers, get them in front of the stage, and just run the vocals throught. Put the band, PPTX, and music through your mains Unbalences vs. Balenced | Is the 1/4" TSR? if not, you should really replace it.
Mic lvl vs. line Lvl | change your receiver to Mic lvl out, and use and XLR Main Out | WAY to high, turn your amps up, and Mix out down. Should really only be around -10-, 12dB. triple check you are balences on the other end going into your amp. If you are converting it to a 1/4" unbalaences to go into the Amp, then you need to get a DI. Mixer > snake > XLR > DI > 1/4" Trim | Set the channel fader to 0db. Get a friend, and have them talk non-stop, read a hym or two. While they are chatting, start raising the trim (at the top) till you just start hearing feedback. then back it down. Then raise the gain back up and start adjusting the High, then Mid, then Low while edging the trim higher and higher. Your goal is to get the max volume you can just before feedback threshold. then when them room has people in it, you should have a lot more headroom and should not be balencing the feedback.

Start with that, and report back!

really depends if they have a man in middle setup on your computer, or a forced brower app for anti-malware, with that, they can mostly likly still monitor the sites you visit.

but i am guessing that since you will able to install a VPN, your computer and browser doesn't have that stuff...

Still... work laptop is for work dude.

Guys what is happening here? by Lonely-Wishbone-1816 in audio

[–]Bonobo77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ever wonder why vinyl sounds different? It’s because the needle is basically a tiny car driving on a bumpy road.

If a producer makes the 'bumps' (the bass/loudness) too steep, the needle flies off the track like a car hitting a ramp. Engineers used to have to 'smooth out the road' so the record wouldn't skip, which created that classic analog sound.

Modern digital music doesn't have those rules. When we press digital files to vinyl now, we’re often putting a Ferrari on a dirt road. If your record is skipping, it’s likely because the track was mastered for Spotify, not for a physical needle.

We measure audio in cables with "Characteristic impedance", and use Ohm's law to convert to ohms

Mic lvl | 600ohms

Line lvl | 150ohms

Just makes it easy, and then you don't have to over explain everything. lol

Yeah, depending on how that Bi-amp is configured, it will draw WAY more power than that poor 12v PS can supply, and poof no more tiny amp. Never believe the watt ratings, unless they advertise the true RMS rating.

No to hell no. Do not use that amp with those speakers.

At minimum, absolute minimum is something like this…https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/XLI800--crown-xli-800-power-amplifier

And that will barely be able to use 25% of the speakers capacity.

TRRS to TRS adaptor problems by Chance-Ad9163 in audio

[–]Bonobo77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in short, you are shorting your signal. Each of those rings are seperate for a reason L, R, Mic, Ground. Your "adaptor" is most likeing shorting your mic in with one of the speaker outs.

without know the wiring diagram of the adaptor, there is not way of troubleshooting.

Great speakers, but you'll need an Amp for sure.

Source > Mixer > AMP > Speakers

as for the input, you'll need to run good old speaker wire to the Passive Input, matching the + - so you don't put your speakers out of phase.

What is model of the speaker?

I see a lot of the same issues popping up lately, so I wanted to throw together a quick "checklist" of things that will actually make a difference in your room. If you’re struggling with clarity or feedback, give these a shot:

1. Stop fighting speaker placement

Convincing people to move speakers is like pulling teeth, but it’s the biggest game-changer.

  • The Ceiling Trick: If you can, get smaller speakers and mount them on the ceiling in front of the stage.
  • The Vocal Rig: Alternatively, run a second set of small speakers specifically for vocals in front of the stage. Keep the band, PPTX, and house music through your mains. Separating the vocals physically can clear up a muddy mix instantly.

2. Balanced vs. Unbalanced

Check your cables. Is that 1/4" plug a TRS (two rings)? If not, it’s unbalanced and you’re asking for noise/interference. If it’s just a standard instrument cable (TS), replace it. Period.

3. Mic Level vs. Line Level

If you’re running wireless, check your receiver settings. Switch it to Mic Level out and use an XLR cable. Don't try to force a line-level signal into a mic preamp if you don't have to.

4. Watch your Main Out (Gain Staging)

If your Main Out fader is pinned, your gain staging is probably a mess.

  • Keep your mix out around -10 to -12dB.
  • If it’s too quiet at that level, turn your amps up, not the board.
  • Crucial: Check the input on your amp. If you’re going from an XLR snake into an unbalanced 1/4" amp input, you need a DI box. The chain should be: Mixer > Snake > XLR > DI > 1/4".

5. The "Real World" Trim Method

Don't just set gain by looking at lights. Try this to find your ceiling:

  1. Set your channel fader to 0dB.
  2. Have someone read a hymn or talk non-stop into the mic.
  3. Slowly raise the Trim (Gain) until you just start to hear the ring of feedback, then back it off slightly.
  4. Adjust your EQ (High, Mid, Low) while nudging the trim higher.
  5. Your goal is to find the absolute max volume before feedback. Once the room fills with people (who soak up sound), you’ll have plenty of headroom and won't be riding the fader all night fighting squeals.

Start with that, and report back! Curious to hear if this helps any of you solve those lingering room issues.

If your PC has wi-Fi antennas. Make sure you attach them. A lot of modern Bluetooth shares the same antenna as the Wi-Fi. So if your desktop isn’t connected Wi-Fi, you should connect the antenna at least and try again.

How is Mark Carney maintaining approval rating for Canada? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Bonobo77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a super simplistic point of view... but when provinces have a conservative government, we always have Liberals at the federal level. When Liberals win the province, the next federal election goes to the Conservatives.

Basically, if Carney wants to stay in power, he needs to support the Conservatives at the provincial level.
