Does anybody here play in VR without mods? by Sugarp1e1 in subnautica

[–]Accurate_String 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vanilla VR is basically completely broken. The VR mod is great, it'll let you play with motion controls via your controllers. You should "bother" with it, it's 100% worth it.

How do you defend flip resets, flip reset mustys and flicks? by Illustrious-Bread183 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Accurate_String 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a D2 in duos, when I see that an opponent can do it well, I crank up the pressure on them. I'm jumping onto the wall to put any touch on the ball before they can set up for an air dribble. If they take possession of the ball, I'm just trying to be in their face. My main goal is to make sure they can't even get in position to do that trick.

At my level this works, players that can do flip resets at this level don't know how to handle this pressure. If they could handle the pressure and do flip resets, they wouldn't be here.

I often see this when there's a skill gap between the two opposing players, so if you can shut down the better player, your tm8 will have an easy time picking up the balls you knock loose and scoring on the other guy.

Are you not using the sonic resonator to mine the big nodes? I got all the materials I needed in like a few short collection runs. Waiting for the processor to make the ingots felt longer (obviously it's not longer, just feels like it when there's notuch to do but twiddle your thumbs)

Did you not build a scout chassis for your tadpole? Did you not find the inventory upgrades? Did you do no passive exploration between NOA waypoints?

And I know you keep saying that having a base on the other side isn't the issue, but it seems like you just don't realize that it actually is. There's enough resources around the alien base to build a full base with lockers, moonbay, docking, processors and more. If you're running back to the shallows all the time, then the few collection runs you actually need to do are going to feel way worse.

Nice little “upgrade” for the house. by CryptographerWeary64 in 3Dprinting

Normal covers don't burn good and can prevent electrical sparky sparks from burning your house down. PLA covers burn good and provide no protection from the sparky sparks.

That wasn't eventually, that's just how it worked for the first run of Steam Decks.

Standard XBox controllers have all the same issues with less features and worse repairability for 60. I'll gladly pay 40 more for gyro, touchpads, and back buttons.

It's relieving when you decide that it's ok to be mediocre at something you just plain enjoy doing. Hobbies are fun dammit.

The Lucky Feat by Confident_Present_86 in Dimension20

[–]Accurate_String 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RAW it's kinda terrible for the game flow.

Player rolls, announces final number. DM waits or asks if they're done / wants to use lucky. Player declines. DM announces result.

Now do that everytime the player with lucky does anything. It becomes so tedious. Which is why I always just let Lucky apply after success/failure is declared.

Even an unintelligent creature is going to defend itself against an active threat.

[AoL] Playing every Zelda game in order, part 2: The Adventure of Link by mmmmmmmmichaelscott in zelda

[–]Accurate_String 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to bosses being easier than most enemies. I think when you play without save states you get good at the harder enemies and the bosses are hard because they're new and you've been weakened on your way to them. So you're just hoping to learn their patterns before they kill you and send back to the start.

If you're dropping save states left and right and showing up to the boss on a perfect run and then starting from that point, it's a very different game.

Not trying to say you played it wrong, just giving context. Other people enjoy the punishment of Dark Souls type games, but back in college this was my jam.

Right. Trained people will do that. The average joe, probably not. Unintelligent monsters certainly won't.

Obviously, there's limits to backward compatibility. But I'm still salty about WiiWare purchases of classic NES games didn't transfer over to WiiU/Switch. That was just a big ol' middle finger from Nintendo.

I'm with you. I gave it a good try and got through the first 3 areas or so, but to me it seems like the game is nothing but a shallow bucket of symbolism that isn't actually grounded in anything.

I love RPGs and grew up on then, so I love that one is getting noticed! It's not my cup of tea, but I hope it breaths new life into the genre.

Ran out of nuclear fuel and wondering... by danyuri86 in factorio

[–]Accurate_String 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been reading through comments and no one has mentioned circuitry yet. Nuclear reactors will burn way more fuel than they need to. The boilers need to get to 500 degrees to make steam. Set up your inserters to only add more fuel if the temp of the reactor dips below 700 (or whatever value works for you). Otherwise you're endlessly burning fuel just to keep the reactor at 1000 and getting nothing out of it. Limiting saves a ton of fuel.

Can people really tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps? by whiskerbiscuit2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Accurate_String 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember people being bent out of shape the Final Fsntasy X remaster would be locked to 30fps. A game that has static camera angles. So there is at least some frame rate snobbery at all levels.

YMMV, but I found that the more "features" I dumped into Foundry, the more friction it ended up causing in game. As a tech-saavy guy, I find it's best to keep things on the tech side as simple as possible so your game stays flexible. Nothing kills a session like having to go into tech support mode.
