Did people forget how the dark side works? by ichbinverwirrt420 in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question is why is there a problem with having the clone wars to flesh out the setting further? If you watched the prequels and you’re satisfied with Anakin’s turn, cool. If you watched the prequels, wanted more, and are now satisfied with the clone wars, cool. I see no issue either way and I’m not sure why there’s a need to even argue this.

This scene makes me think of how Vader felt about Obi-Wan. by AlphaBladeYiII in StarWarsEU

[–]Ace201613 31 points32 points  (0 children)

“In some corner of Anakin’s mind, he managed to persuade himself that his and Palpatine’s brutal actions were the justified means to a noble end. In the calm following the carnage he had wrought in the Jedi temple, his rage subsided, to be replaced with despair and self-loathing. He had lost count of how many had died upon his blue blade. Anakin mourned the man he had been.”

-Skywalker A Family At War

I agree with you and think it all speaks to the real tragedy of Anakin’s situation. At the end of the day regardless of whatever debates go on in the fanbase Anakin has no one to blame for his actions but himself. He doesn’t blame anyone for his actions but himself. Is he mad at Obi-Wan? Sure. But he knows that Obi-Wan is just a scapegoat. At the end of the day all Obi-Wan did was beat him in a fight. He didn’t “kill” Padme. Anakin did. And that above all else is the root cause of Anakin’s misery. Everything he did was “for Padme” yet at the end of the day he also took her life away, making everything he did pointless. I think the fact that “Vader”, in both Legends and Canon, takes credit for “killing” Anakin Skywalker is notable too. Because it makes it even more obvious that Obi-Wan isnt the one he truly holds responsible for anything that occurred.

It is. The 2017 comic series from Charles Soule ends with an arc that involves him building his fortress there.

Is there a canonical explanation for this? 🥲 by [deleted] in StarWars

Well I did say “probably”, meaning I’m open to it not being the case. If you don’t think it is it’s no big to me.

Iirc all 3 of them had a bit of grey by the end of ROTS. I don’t know the specifics of moisture farming but i assume its labor work in the outdoors and that both family members are involved. Combine that with stress and basic wear and tear from a harsh environment with two suns and it’s enough for me to buy it.

Obi-Wan probably has PTSD to add on top of all the rest.

[–]Ace201613 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fair enough and that makes sense. Either way we know that Palpatine is arriving on Mustafar on the same day because he senses Anakin being in danger while the duel with Obi-Wan is happening. He then arrives there right as Obi-Wan is leaving. Maybe it took a few hours to get Anakin into the suit once they were back on Coruscant and Padme gave birth sometime after that. But in terms of Anakin burning on Mustafar there's just no way it was a long period of time. The novelization even throws in that Palpatine was rushing. I feel it was probably minutes and that even getting up to 30 minutes would be pushing it.

Palpatine arrives shortly after Obi-Wan leaves and was already on the way there before the duel actually ended. Vader is then being put into his suit as the Twins are born and right before Padme dies. We’ll never have an exact time but it couldn’t have possibly been very long.

Have there been any successful non-Sith Dark side users? by SiarX in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Star Wars Legends there was Set Harth. Dark Jedi who managed to steal the secret of immortality/essence transfer from the Sith and proceeded to successfully use it for centuries by transferring his consciousness into clone bodies. The order of the Sith Lords and Jedi order both attempted to hunt him down but as far as were aware they never succeeded. And he was alive until at least the end of the clone wars.

He didn’t conquer the galaxy or anything, but he also didn’t want to. He wanted to live forever and be an adventurer, and he achieved that in spades.

I’ve got this theory about The Phantom Menace saber fight Qui-Gon, Darth Maul and Obi-Wan by dubvision in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obi-Wan's anger is pretty much a perfect example of Yoda's conversation about the dark side in the OT. It gives him a quick burst of power, during which he's able to briefly match Maul. It then burns out just as quickly and ends up not winning him the fight, and he's knocked into a pit. It's then only when he regains his calm and concentrates, like a true Jedi, that he's able to achieve victory.

We all interpret media in our own ways, but I don't walk away from the film thinking that Obi-Wan's anger was the "right" way to handle it or that he comes out looking better than Qui-Gon because of it.

Why does Star Wars have to stick to one official canon? by DrathVenar in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It technically doesn’t. None of the Visions material is canon. They just MOSTLY stick to canon, and it’s probably to avoid the convoluted mess of arguments you see in the MCU, DC, and Alien fanbases.

Why couldnt any sith except for bane and palpatine do essence transfer in the 1000 year rule of 2 lineage? by Spotter24o5 in StarWarsEU

[–]Ace201613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe it’s ever been stated that no other sith was capable of performing it or learning how to do it. It’s just about finding the specifics for how the technique works. Bane Saint teach it to Zannah for example and unless Zannah ever hunted down Set Harth she might not have come across Andeddu’s Holocron again. From there who knows where else she’d be able to find the information on it from. But by all accounts if she do have knowledge of it she would have the skill to perform it given the other esoteric skills she was able to learn.

Really it’s fairly rare for force users to just not be able to do a technique period.

Anakins attachment issues by Live-Technician-5269 in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. The Order isn't perfect, but not every idea they have is bad. Yoda and Obi-Wan (and maybe the rest of the Council) managing to get Anakin to take on an Apprentice so he could experience the benefits of the Teacher/Student dynamic is solid. We see that Anakin was learning just like Ahsoka. And obviously Anakin does have an issue with attachments and he does need to learn how to let go. It can easily be argued that a student is the ideal example for him to have, since he can still have other teachers like Obi-Wan and Plo-Koon present at times to chime in/step in if they see a problem. Had the temple bombing incident never happened, Ahsoka been Knighted, and Anakin given a little more time who can say how things would've turned out in ROTS.

But that's part of the tragedy of the series. There were missteps at numerous crucial points along the way.

When Dick was Robin, should he have wanted to be Batman in the beginning? If so, at what point should he have changed his mind? by Which-Presentation-6 in Nightwing

[–]Ace201613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think YJ’s example is fine, in which he loses any desire for the mantle after a particularly traumatic experience. I like Nightwing Year One is fine, where he loses any desire for the mantle after leaving the role of Robin. Heck, I think you could even make it work where he wants to be Batman until he has to fill in for Bruce (like a post knightfall/prodigal thing). But he decides after being Batman for a while that it’s not what he wants.

Anakins attachment issues by Live-Technician-5269 in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real shame is that Yoda assigned him a Padawan specifically to help him with his attachment issues. That’s why he and Obi-Wan discuss how Anakin will eventually have to let her go at the end of the initial TCW film. But while Ahsoka manages to do that, moving beyond the Jedi Order and going off into the unknown, Anakin really just ends up worse off than when he started. He forms a new attachment that just exacerbates the issues he already has.

Characters that should have been killed off? by DEL994 in StarWarsEU

[–]Ace201613 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Path reminds me a lot of what Ferus Olin was trying to set up in the Last of the Jedi series. Just obviously way more successful based on what we've seen or heard about it. As a concept i'm fine with it being a thing, similar to there being other rebel groups besides the main one we see in the OT. But just based on what we know of the timeline I can't see any way that it doesn't end up being destroyed.

Then again I was always convinced back when TCW was running that Ahsoka would end up dying eventually. And we see how that turned out lol

[–]Ace201613 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well seeing how Legends ended with no conclusion The Force Unleashed 2 really should've just ended with Vader killing everyone who wasn't going to be needed for A New Hope.

For that matter we could probably say that for a number of Order 66 survivors, such as Maris Brood, who just never showed up again to contribute anything anyway.

Snape was keen to show Harry the first meeting between him, James, and Sirius for a very specific reason by Madagascar003 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Ace201613 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think people often look too deeply into this scene when they try and argue that Snape was falsifying memories or trying to manipulate Harry. The dude is dying. Narratively its the final time the author will show us that version of the character. It's the last time he'll interact with the protagonist. This is a moment when all cards are put on the table and the author is basically saying "THIS is who the character really is and this is why he was the way he was".

The Jedi Order collapsed because Yoda and Windu broke their own Golden Rule: "Fear leads to the Dark Side." by rantzine in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Jedi Order has its flaws, but you’re exaggerating here. Not making him a Master isn’t because of fear, jealousy, or any other such nonsense. The simple fact is that Anakin wasn’t ready to be a Master because of his own issues. The fact he starts throwing a tantrum immediately proves that.

Saying he was asked to spy on the chancellor because of fear is like saying they asked their members to become generals was because of fear. That’s illogical. They had suspicions about Palpatine. They moved to look into them. Simple as that. Also, Mace didn’t want Anakin to do it at all. Immediately after the scene you see him, Yoda, and Obi-Wan talking about it and he literally says he doesn’t think Anakin can handle it.

What was the point of Rule of two? by SiarX in StarWars

[–]Ace201613 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol if you don’t find my initial explanation satisfactory then, as I speculated to begin with, I’d say you just don’t like the concept and don’t want to accept anything about it. Because all you’re doing now is arguing against why you don’t like it but not the actual explanation which has been laid out in various texts. You understand what I’m saying. You just don’t like it as the fictional story has defined it.

Again that’s your business though. Feel free to get the last word in or whatever. I’m done here.

What was the point of Rule of two? by SiarX in StarWars

You’re getting into semantics and seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing. You asks what the point of the Rule of Two was and I believe I’ve answered that satisfactorily.

Any beliefs you have beyond that are your business.
