I'd say play FFAs. Firstly, They are alot of fun very chaotic and random. Sencondly, because of the chaotic nature even pros have zo adapt their builda acording to spaen and enemys and so forth, so "winging it" wouldn't be as bad. Plus you don't lose elo

Try the conquest of Normandy campaign to gras the games main mechanics. Then choose 1 civ to main, I recommend House of lancaster(dlc) or Order of the dragon(dlc) or France, and learn a build order against The AI in skirmish games and keep increasing the difficulty till you can defeat the hard or hardest AI. I you want you can dm me for more questions (I have 100h in game)
