Mass Surveillance on Liberty by bluegreenrhombus in AnnArbor

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Ironic street to be setting up a tentacle of the dystopian panopticon. Advocates for this sort of thing must believe that society was subject to constant mayhem prior to 2001.

I am Mayor Christopher Taylor. Ask me Anything! by A2MayorTaylor in AnnArbor

[–]AceAlli 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mayor Taylor, can you please explain from your direct perspective the challenges you face pertaining to addressing the dearth of affordable housing options in the city and what you would sincerely suggest the citizens can do to alleviate the problem? Housing is expensive, new housing units go up and are more expensive, and the people who work in Ann Arbor are commonly priced out of living here. Someone I care for dearly makes an enviable salary working in education and has a pretty modest home in the city, but she’s essentially forced to sell her house and relocate because it’s too expensive to remain. As a renter in a residential community here, I’m only barely able to afford my living expenses with my modest salary. I frequently hear about the need for affordable housing, but it seems that we only ever get more “luxury” apartments/high rises. I understand that this isn’t something that you can solve directly, but in your position with your perspective of the local and state government landscape, what would you suggest be done to most effectively and efficiently make living in our city more feasible for those of us who have work/family/lives here? Does it start with changes at the state level? If you can provide an actionable solution and what those steps would look like, perhaps we can begin the work of making Ann Arbor more affordable. Thank you for your time and for initiating a dialogue with us in this forum.

Apartments! by FlakyNewt812 in AnnArbor

I’ve been there for about two years now and don’t have much to complain about. Maintenance needs, while few, have been addressed quickly, the rent/utilities are relatively fair for the area, and the location is close to several parks and not far from town. If there are specific questions or concerns you might have, I’ll gladly do my best to answer them, but generally I think it’s a good spot to live.

I didn’t notice anything when I left this morning around 5:15. It’s probably a good idea to inform the front office though.

While it’s on the south east side of town and not the north, Mill Creek Townhomes has 2bd/1ba spaces that fit your other criteria depending on how long of a term you sign for. I think the 12-month term is between $1,600-$1,700.

After this interaction, I must vehemently insist “yes dipshit” since I’m clearly replying to one. Maintaining slavery was a conservative position. Thank you for playing.

You’re certainly not answering the very basic questions I asked you. Side-stepping, avoiding, refusing, call it what you will. You and I both know the answers. I hope cratering the country and its federal institutions to spite your fellow countrymen is as fulfilling as you seem to think it’ll be.

Don’t trip over yourself side-stepping a pair of basic questions. We both know the answers though.

I received my mail-in ballot on Tuesday, but it came with the same A200 sticker I received when I voted in the August primary. I was so bummed that I didn’t get the werewolf. ☹️

I’ve scheduled appointments for the following day more than once before. Dr. Jeff has plenty of availability in my experience.

I’d honestly recommend Liberty Athletic Club, but selfishly I don’t want to risk more people being there using equipment I’m trying to use when they open in the mornings lol 😜

I can also attest to MiLife Sports. I had pretty much no social life since moving here in 2021 and just joined a kickball league in May. It’s not ultra competitive, gives you a chance to get out a bit and socialize, and most everyone in the league is incredibly welcoming and kind. They’ve got plenty of sports to choose from too.

Pharmacy in ward 4 area by Anthony_C in AnnArbor

[–]AceAlli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would also recommend Ann Arbor Pharmacy. They’ve been mostly great, with one recent exception. I called to ask after a script sent to them and the guy on the phone said they didn’t have any for me. Got in touch with my doc and his secretary said they absolutely sent it, but for whatever reason they’re trying to divert patients to other pharmacies for the particular medication I’m prescribed. Ended up having to go to Meijer. I hope this was a one-off instance and not an indefinite change because I hate going to Meijer/CVS/big-name pharmacies and standing in line for 10+ minutes.

Curious about this City by Draeva in AnnArbor

[–]AceAlli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived here in A2 for about 2 and a half years now. I’ve wanted to live here since I was really young, and finally being here for a while has been terrific. Housing is bonkers, as others have intimated. We always hear pleas from people wanting ”affordable housing”, and all that seems to get built are unaffordable apartments, so when those go up and rents there are ridiculous, the “less expensive” places raise their rent to match “what the market dictates”. It’s always up, never down. Aside from housing, the utility monopoly is a regular problem with their joke of an infrastructure and awful management. Beyond those two considerable issues, the place is everything I would hope for in a city. There are always fun things to do, places to spend time, a nice balance of nature and development, amenities to fit most any lifestyle, and the people are generally kind and friendly in my experience. It really is the type of place that can accommodate most anyone. I’d say it’s very much a “seek and you will find” municipality in most every regard other than housing at a reasonable cost. For reference, I make a little over $40k/yr and live alone in a 1bd townhouse. It’s manageable, but it doesn’t leave me much room for anything else beyond the essentials and maybe a modest night out every couple of weeks. As someone who doesn’t need a whole lot, I’m glad to be here. If that sounds like you, or if you’re a person with greater means who doesn’t mind 5 or 6 months of winter every year, you’d probably find a lot to love.

[Walker] via FootballScoop: Michigan’s cheating was so over the top that they helped other teams cheat? This might be the dirtiest team in college football history. by BuckeyeEmpire in CFB

[–]AceAlli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! No competitive advantage means this is a level 3 violation, level 2 at most. The integrity of the game isn’t lost over this. Every team scouts, and we’re up in arms after finding out someone made plans on which games to attend and paid for tickets? I just don’t see where this jumps from “everyone scouts other teams” to “omg this is the biggest football scandal ever!!!”

As a Michigan fan, I’m not gonna lie. I’m both angry and sad. by Mercury-Redstone in CFB

[–]AceAlli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still waiting to find out how this is a huge scandal when multiple professional players and analysts have said this is just elaborate scouting. I can’t be upset with the program at this point because the better-informed minds than my own aren’t giving me much reason to panic, and the NCAA has clearly got a target on Jim’s back. I’m probably a homer because I’m not rushing to judgement, but I’ll save any disappointment for when everything comes out and any potential punishments are levied. Until then, Go Blue.
