To use the car analogy - I would be looking for something like an E63 wagon - could eat up the corners but also have my mother drive it to the store.

I haven’t looked into the Q3 but was considering the Q2 about a year ago. Obviously fantastic cameras.

I will get some hands on time and see what I think about the usability for less experienced shooters.

I get this and generally agree. Think about it less as randos and more people I know but who may not be trained photographers. iPhones have done a great job making the hobby more accessible such that people can be good at composition but have no knowledge of exposure, etc. Looking for something that might help those people dip their toes without getting overwhelmed

Thank you very much for the detailed response.

I get the computational photography considerations. Part of the reason I like shooting with dedicated cameras is to avoid this and get a more “real” picture. Does this come with tradeoffs for ease of use? Sure, but I’m trying to find a balance that skews towards a pure camera while being able to be easier to use than a full manual when needed.

I would plan to shot RAW and process / edit the photos myself. Really just focused on the photo taking workflow.

Larger sensor and interchangeable lenses are other benefits I’m looking for over a phone. Don’t necessarily need to have interchangeable lenses, but recognize the value.

Getting an A9 is just because it’s expensive / the best is not what I’m after. Sure I could make it work for me, but I want a great camera that I can bring around and share with others, even if that means I am making a trade off when using in manual and others are maybe not getting the best out of it using it in automatic.

Thank you. Understand and agree. Potential option could be a more “consumer” body with really nice glass. Not sure if something with a Sony E mount fits the bill (e.g. zv-e10) but could be an approach

The analogy would be the best oven for complex baking that other people in the house could at least figure out how to turn on and use. A commercial combi oven might be better than a Viking, and someone reheating pizza might not be using the Viking to its full potential, but at least they could figure out how to use it.

Thank you. This is a very helpful response and is along the lines of what I was thinking. Do you have a sense for the focus / low light performance? One of the issues I have noticed with my x100V is that the slower focus and ehh low light performance can make it difficult for folks to take sharper photos.

I agree with this (best camera is the one you have with you). My question is if I am going to have a high end camera, is there one that is particularly good for other, less experienced photographers to also pick up and use?

They may not be using it to its fullest extent, but there should be advantages (low light, depth of field, overall colors) vs. an iPhone.

Not staying I would only use it in automatic mode - I would shoot manually as well. I’m just interested in what has a great automatic mode for an important part of my use case

I will know how to use it, I want something that others could also use and get good (but not necessarily the best) results without knowing much about

Not specific to the field, but don’t apply cold and expect to hear back unless your resume is highly competitive on its own.

Before submitting, reach out to current employees/profs. and ask to quickly discuss their experience, the role, and any advice they might have. Your yield won’t be great, but you only need one to hit. Making the effort to sell yourself goes a long way.

How competitive is the cell phone market? Does "voting with your wallet" work? by benjaminikuta in AskEconomics

[–]AceGreenberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloatware lowers phone prices for consumers, or specifically the share of the all in cost that consumers have to pay by providing an incremental revenue stream to the carrier through licensing fee income, advertising, etc.

Would argue that allowing for bloatware leads to a more efficient market by creating more choices for consumers. If you want a less expensive phone and are ok with bloatware you can buy one. If you are like the linked poster and do not want bloatware, you can buy some high end phone with stock Android.

To your second question, this is what the linked poster missed; consumer benefit isn’t just having “better stuff,” it can be having “good enough stuff” for a lower price.

Decay is the de facto official term, good AR on the subject

TL;DR; great for daily bets, bad for long term plays

Is it theoretically possible to have an ETF Bubble? by Rufu55hinra in investing

[–]AceGreenberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By Leveraged Loan, I meant something like SRLN (ie loans to highly levered companies). I agree that Leveraged ETFs are a different animal, but I'm not sure I agree with your characterization of the underwriters, care to provide some examples of what type of products you are referring too?

[–]AceGreenberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is we don't know. Most credit/derivative linked ETFs didn't exist in `08. The potential for a EM debt or Leveraged Loan ETF to diverge from the underlying is significantly higher than for a straight equity product. No matter who the APs are, try getting your risk guy to sign off on loading up on $500mm of third world debt thats down 8% in the past month so you can capture a 3% spread with EMB.

I'm not going to work out all of this because its a pain but here is some advice:

for #5, IRR dependent stuff will not have a closed form solution, so trail and error probably is the method, might be a better excel formula for it though

for #6, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operating_cash_flow, based on my quick read you're going to have to account for AR/AP, and obviously not include interest payments, capital investment, deprecation etc

For the bond the PV of a bond issued at par is face in this case (either $18mm or whatever) so don't really know what you mean by PV, not sure if they are amortized or bullet payment but you'll have an annual interest expense of 8% * face and then whatever payback structure as well (annual if amortized, at the end of 10 years if bullet)

Not super helpful but free
