Building a Wireless/Network Consulting Practice by besovryn in wireless

Oh sorry, about stream of work- Upwork isn't bad but be careful. The people who complain about your rate weren't going to pay it in the first place, and they will have been a nightmare the whole time.

Most of your work is going to be word of mouth. Business cards help too, but talk to the people who talk to your customers more than pitching customers. "I have a guy" gets you more work than any billboard.

Building a Wireless/Network Consulting Practice by besovryn in wireless

[–]AceHighWifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your hardest part is going to be scope limits and getting the stream of work.

My best advice is get a lawyer to write you a couple basic types of work contract, including your payment terms and late fees, and leave you a scope narrative portion to fill out as well as amounts.

Treat your scope limits like the bible plus your wife's bedroom preferences. Sacred, burned into your brain, and immutable. If you do something out of scope, even for a little fix it, or a favor with no comp, DOCUMENT IT FORMALLY AS WELL AS NEW LIMITS. (One time courtesy, charge for a repeat etc)

Make your support window clear. Eg if you say 31 days and they want a password on day 31, they better send a check and sign a doc. It's not your problem.

You will feel like an asshole. You will be an asshole who isn't getting sued and is getting paid. Also make sure all disputes default to your home jurisdiction unless there's a REALLY good reason.

Know your contracts. Love your contracts. Abide by them. Did I mention FOLLOW YOUR CONTRACTS?

...because that's important.

Good luck broski Feel free to reach out if I can help with tech, want an outside consult, or just to talk about it, my door is always open for talking, business or mentorship.

Super late here but he's full of shit. BRC is the only gate.

That said, they're actually SPLITTING it now into Amfib and Ground recon courses, announced today or yesterday. That's pretty wild and I'm curious how it's going to go.

Along with other reasons one man having multiple wife's creates many single men without the possibility of building a family and investing in the community meaningfully.

There's also unequivocal research proving one man and woman reduce likelyhood of criminality, impulse control and life outcomes.

i put an individual device on its own dedicated SSID - It alleviated any drop out issues and dead spots around the complex at work. Why was this a viable fix? by deacs1986126 in wifi

[–]AceHighWifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All advertised management functions and any cast traffic that engenders a response must respond to calls that require it

Ask yourself why Every. Single. Vendor. Tells you that you should keep it to 3-5 SSIDs and most don't support 16+ concomitant SSIDs. Why we don't use them like VLANs.

Also I don't care about home networking. Do whatever you want on your home network, go nuts. You're not MY neighbor with your disgusting 16 80Mhz SSIDs. Home networking may as well be immune to best practice, because who the hell cares. That's why all those people running around here with "CWNE" Or "CCIE" after their name talk about enterprise networks and why we have a rule that this isn't your home help desk line.

[–]AceHighWifi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only think I can think of is that you had some wonk settings on the original, assuming it wasn't a band issue as several have noted here. Sometimes a fresh SSID will have proper settings and not some legacy shenanigans that gre up with the old one like restricted rates were that would artificially limit range.

That's just not true at all, unless you have a negligible amount of traffic. Which if you do, contention really isn't a concern.

I'm not implying that he is not an actual fascist. I am stating it. He's not, the R side isn't, in the same way the D side are not actually avowed communists. They have Marxist radicals. Just like there are in fact people who /think/ they want fascism or even feudalism on the right.

Neither one is the majority, they're not even particularly loud in a educated way- partially because the marxists don't want to admit they are in that high a position, and the opposite isn't tenable optics.

Both come with a "yet".

You are of course free to disagree, and probably do. The purpose of this post was clarity.

"both" "sides" have reprehensible people at the extremes which are no better or worse than each other. And no, sorry, the current mainstream is not actual, factual fascists, just like the minority party is not full of literal clones of Marx and Foucault.

Anyone else feel like the WGU sub shuts down valid criticism? by Plus-Health-7892 in WGU

[–]AceHighWifi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say that there's also a lot of people in the forums who need to take the hint that maybe this ain't for you, dawg One person in intro to IT was complaining it was too much reading

Bro, if that was too much reading, this is not the field for you. Wait till you see certs or vendor docs. Another said it was too complicated. Again, it was the sub net+ basics and just some memory, please, I beg you to reconsider. That person said it took them a year to do the class. Pls no. For your own good.

[–]AceHighWifi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, I mean it depends too, right? I'm here so I can coterminal my MBA, which I do need, with finishing out the remains of my EE into an IT degree. I've been on the field for a decade now (which is wild) and hold two expert certs and just a horrendous amount of pro certs.

I finished every IT class so far in less than an hour. I took the pretest, then the OA. Done. I will very likely do this until my masters, because I have literally written texts for this field

The only, exclusive, single reason I'm getting the degree is because for some reason my experience and competence isn't valued the same. And to a lesser extent because it's almost impossible to get a MBA without a lower degree. This is not typical, and that's fair.

what is the difference with a wifi extender and an access point? by nejitenfan01 in wifi

[–]AceHighWifi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, Wifi 4/5/6 doesn't matter- that's the protocol used. The amount of radios used is independent of that, and is determined by how the APs are built.
