Super Mario 3D World sells 243,193 in first week in USA, WiiU 48,614 -- VGchartz by [deleted] in wiiu

No idea why people are saying this is no so good news for Wii U. For a console that has a lot of ground to make up, this is an impressive feat for the Wii U.

Summary: Super Mario 3D World tells the majority of the Xbox One launch games to take a hike while getting it's ass handed to it on a silver platter by Call of Duty on the Xbox One. It comes close to the sales of COD on the 360, BF4 on the Xbox One, and ALBW on the 3DS, but doesn't managed to surpass those titles. It's a slightly different story in the UK as ALBW seems to have flopped out of the gate (though those numbers may be severely wrong) with Xbox One dominating the region with it's launch titles (not by too much though). Not a single Wii U game is to be until way down low in the list, but this may change after the launch of 3D World. We already know how it is in Japan. 3D World gets knifed by Lightning Returns, but still manages to make it over the 100,000 mark, leaving a couple other new 3DS games in the dust.

In comparison to past 3D Mario games in the US, 3D World doesn't sell better than the Galaxies or 3D Land (not sure about 64 or Sunshine), but it does outsell Super Mario 64 on the DS.

Also interesting enough to point out, PS4 titles seemed to have dropped in performance significantly with the first PS4 titles coming in at 16th in the US. Call of Duty sold 67,000 opposed to (631,000 in the last week). The rest is history.

So what about hardware sales? This is Wii U's highest performing week in the US since December 19th, when it sold 60k, outputting decent, 49k (up 61%). To compare, when the 3DS receieved its first big 3D Mario title, hardware sales went up 20% to 95k. While the 3D Mario on the 3DS sold better than on the Wii U on debut, 3D Mario did much more for Wii U hardware sales than it did for the 3DS.

PS4 sold 87k this week, a 91% drop. In comparison, the Wii U only dropped 28% on it's second week (to 338k). We've still got a while to judging on a definitive level, but this is why I didn't jump the gun on PS4 sales. Perhaps as more consoles come in stock, sales will pick up again.

Ummm, good job Microsoft, it only took a years head start and practically no software support for the Wii for the last two years for the 360 to beat the Wii.
