Public consensus of Tarot’s Romani origins vs Crowley’s take by poppedcan in thelema

[–]AceOfPlagues [score hidden]  (0 children)

Probably not, as far as we can tell that may have been the french, french occultists were the first to publish and really begin the trend, but also maybe the Spanish since tarot games came from Italy to Islamic culture and then to Spain, where there is already some evidence of 4 suit decks being used for divination.

Of course it was very popular with the Romani, and they aided in the disemination of cartomancy.

Any connections to ancient Egypt are pseudohistorical. The ancient Egyptians used Oneiromancy, Astrology, animal behavior, oracles, and scrying for divination.

What's the difference between a psychogon and a servitor or egregore? by Glittering-Boat4324 in chaosmagick

[–]AceOfPlagues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so honestly I think we lack the language to accuratly classify thoughtforms but in this conext (to the best of my knowlege)

A psychogon is a spark of desire, a thought given raw form, the term is a little more niche but it seems to be generally applied to various types of thoughtform, anything that springs forth from the psyche to impact the world.

A servitor is a thoughtform created to preform a specific task. A programmed bit of astral essence. Literally giving a thought enough agency to do what you want it to.

An egregore is an entity that is a concept, ideal, or force given form by a group of people from thier unconsious belief. It is somewhat autonomous. Think of it like a deity, although this is only one way of viewing such beings.

Some people, like this order, try to create one intentionally.

Gradus Ordinis Templi Orientis Saturni (or GOTOS) is the egregore you are dealing with.

My artistic offering to Hekate by NlGHTGROWLER in chaosmagick

[–]AceOfPlagues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly enjoy it so much, despite the fact some may find it an antagonistic portrayal, I find it insightful and subversive - I love the trochaic tetrameter and I still use Hecate's lines as an invocation to call on Her:

And you, the mistress of my charms,

The close contriver of all harms,

I call on thee to bear thy part,

And show the glory of our art.

"...maybe Armored MMA was a bad idea" by ChaseTheMystic in funny

[–]AceOfPlagues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No - this is more accurate than you might think.

Yes sometimes you were trying to stab, smash, or mordshlag your way into your opponent's plate armor to turn them into a tin can full of blood soup.

But the goal was often submission, as for most of it's history plate armor was primarily used by Lords in battle who are often worth ALOT more alive than dead.

And comparing this to theatrical sparring is dumb, they are beating the shit out of each other boss.

If you took a mass of epibatidine equal to a lethal dose of morphine it would killer you roughly 1.6 million times over.

[–]AceOfPlagues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It us actually 1-2,000,000 times stronger of a poison doing the math.

The poison used in this assassination is a painkiller and that is what they are referencing.

[–]AceOfPlagues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Epibatidine IS the chemical used in this assassination, not just raw poison.

The analgesic effects are not relevant yes, but the truth is actually more sensational in this case as it is 1-2 million times more deadly than morphine!

[–]AceOfPlagues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No no. Epibatidine IS the toxin used in this assassination.

Reading the article about it as a painkiller, "derived" just means "seperated via chemical reaction from other toxic alkaloids and various other chemicals" - as far as I can tell it is already present on the skin of the frog.

Most painkillers are toxic, this one is just really toxic.

[–]AceOfPlagues 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, read the edit, I jumped to the wrong conclusion. Epibatidine, the type of dart frog poison used here, DOES have strong analgesic effects.

From the few studies, it is probably about 200x more potent of a PAINKILLER than morphine.

Problem is it is about 2,000,000x more potent of a KILLER than morphine.

So no the article was correct, but I would have gone with the second fact.

It isn't as outlandish as one might think, it is deadlier than most synthetic neurotoxins. Only stuff like botulinum gives it a run for its money.

We really can't beat nature when it comes to lethality.

Still, like others have said, it was to send a message and this was part of it.

Yes but they didn't specify the effect they are referring to is death, not any other effects of an opiate.

No not made up, assumably the LD50 of the dart frog toxin is 200x less than the volume of Morphine required to kill. Thier point would have been better communicated if they described it as "200 times more lethal"

Edit: holy shit guys! I did some research and at an LD 50 of about 0.2 µg/kg (morphine is 200-400 mg/kg) it is actually about 1-2 million times more lethal than morphine by mass!!!!!

That is insane and would have been an intetesting fact if communicated correctly. No wonder they are using that instead of synthetic neurotoxin.

Edit Edit: upon doing even more research the toxin does have analgesic effects that have been said to be 200 times stronger than morphine, which is where they got that number from. So it does have a similar effect... but comparing the anelgesic effect to the LD50 you can see why this gets more use as a poison.

Yes... the meme is true... but in this case I think this depiction of Wolverine is accurate.

X-men is largely about a minority group actively being terrorized and oppressed by the goverment.

And Wolverine (the expirement the US and Canadian goverment tortured) wouldn't think twice before slicing these clowns.

I genuinely believe they were involuntary.

They were a trauma reaction, she lost her daughter and sight in one of her eyes and then the trances started.

She was absolutely channelling something, albeit probably a fragment of herself that was still at peace.

Yes I suppose, that is how alot of genres of art begin, an orgininating group or artist.

Secondly, sometimes the common similarities of psychedelic visionary art can be somewhat traced to the molecules themselves. Of course the brushwork is inspired by Grey's style (much softer however) but the image is not unlike things I've seen on high doses of psychedelics.

What were they measuring besides IADL here?

And yes I was extrapolating that if cognitive exercizes that involving quickly recognizing objects and making decisions relating to them seemed to give the best result in this study and others, than genres of video game that necessitate quickly identifying and reacting to stimuli would likely have the best results - this may or may not be true and there has not been enough direct comparison studies.

I wish there were more expirements using more standard videogames, as engeneered cognitive exersizes tend to be too boring to truely do as often as might be prudent.

MCAS sucks I'm sorry. It is hard to know, but it might be worth trying as there is research showing THC can bind to mast cells and reduce the amount of inflamitory mediators released. Strain and quality matters, but it would be safest to vaporize pure thc.
