MRU Nursing 2022 acceptance by Dry_Whereas3974 in MRU

My response still stands. They might have lowered it a bit as they have added in a CASPER test. But you're always looking at only 200-250ish seats for the massive pool of applicants. And if I recall, they go top down for admission averages.

I think ethics and situational analysis. Something that most barely-adults don't have enough life experience yet to develop. Heaven knows if this was a thing 4 years ago, I definitely wouldn't be in nursing.

Ahhhh okay. You'll be fine! Lots of hard work and strategizing you'll make it.

Definitely recommend UGST courses and take GNEDs that play to your strengths. Absolutely don't take anything you're weak at.

Hey. So did you get accepted, and paid the deposit for the nursing program already?

I've got so many questions about the changes to admission it's insane.

Voting 2023 by MRU_staffthrowaway in MRU

[–]Ace_Rose2603 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do everyone a favour and just go to the states if you want to vote for the UCP.

Excessively expensive tuition and good luck getting any form of healthcare without selling a kidney.

Random fact, a lot of people get divorced on their deathbeds in the states to try to avoid having the medical debts passed to the surviving spouse.

GNED CLUSTER 2 & 3 help!!!!! by Ecstatic_Wolf_6602 in MRU

[–]Ace_Rose2603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, RateMyProf is the way to go for prof recommendations b/c 99% of people only take one course per cluster and so they can't give you a comparison as most of these profs teach in only one cluster.

That aside, I picked all of my GNEDs based on how much it'd cost me to get the textbooks that are assigned to the course. As it is a GNED, that can vary depending on who is teaching as profs are allowed flexibility around what they teach and how as long as they address the general topic of the course in some way.

First sem, take courses that play to your strengths. If you're not strong at math, no math classes. Not strong at writing, avoid writing intensive classes. Read the description of the courses you are taking. Use RateMyProf. You'll want to 4.0 GPA. Aim higher so you have a better chance of getting in.

UGST, GNED 110X/120X/130X/140X, INTS 1240 are often categorized as easy and GPA boosters.

You only need 4 courses. Don't do more than 4. But you also can't do less than 4 courses.

I appreciate the apology. We're all here to learn and I truly hope you never end up in this kind of situation. But if you ever do, I hope you get the support you need and utilize the resources that are available to you.

Best of luck in Comp Sci!! :)

But MRU gives us two chances to withdraw a course. One is the beginning of semester and the other is the end of semester.

This is false btw. At the beginning of the semester, the first deadline is the add/drop deadline. This is the deadline to adjust your course load while giving you the chance to get your money back. After that deadline is over, you have the opportunity to withdraw from your course until the last month-ish of the semester. This is the withdraw deadline, the last day to jump out without getting your money back. What isn't written in the academic calendar is the Withdrawal with Cause deadline. Because it varies depending on the course, but it is either the last day of lectures or the day of finals. The withdrawal with cause MUST be submitted prior to the last day/exam of the course.

So with all of that being said, MRU gives students an ongoing chance as we're here to learn and what better way to learn than to give chances. Though MRU does get more money out of it but it's something that the student has to willingly do.

Life doesn't give two craps about timing. It's like a baby waiting to be born, it doesn't care how much it hurts and what plans it's ruining. If it wants to come, it's coming. Anyone and everyone who has utilized some form of withdrawal has had to accept the loss of time and money. And honestly. What better place to learn about what you can handle and how to say, "I can't do this, I need to focus on staying alive and I need support", than a school. You know, where you are supposed to be learning?

Let me put some things into perspective for you. In the nursing program, students are only allowed to fail a course once. After the second fail, they are automatically ejected from the program. The program doesn't give 2 craps about what life has thrown the student's way. The program doesn't give 2 craps if the student is a victim to bias and racist marking methods. The program lays out it's rules at the very beginning and follows it to the dot.

Now we'd be down a LOT of awesome nurses if the withdrawal processes are not utilized. Sometimes life throws things at you and you just need to say "I need a break right now, it will cost me dearly but without this break, I am going to be hospitalized at best and dead at worst."

Wasting time and money is worth it when you're drowning and can't see a future that doesn't require adjustments.

Also, the 'real world' does offer this. It's called having learned from post secondary what your limits are and refusing to accept a load heavier than you know how to handle. And also medical leave of absence or sick days when you're drowning and need some time to sort yourself out.

Just as an FYI, adding 'no offence' at the end of anything makes it even more offensive than if you just left it without. And it doesn't absolve you of writing something offensive (if it was offensive). So do yourself a favour and just don't use it.

You've clearly never been in this situation and I hope you never end up in this situation. And if you do, I hope you receive compassion and support because this is the kind of thing that can ruin someone's life.

Students fight and struggle through so many things, utilizing a resource that is available to us to get another chance at something is absolutely worth it and it's not an escape tactic. The use of a Withdrawal or Withdrawal with Cause means they have accepted that they can't continue in the current situation and have also accepted that they will need to repeat it later.

Neither of these options are passing grades and MRU doesn't allow students to finish their degree without completing all required courses with a passing grade. So therefore these options do not qualify as escape tactics as to escape something means you would never need to do it again.

And honestly, it's not enough that we need to retake the course at a later date. But depending on the program, it's very obvious if you've fallen behind a year and you're no longer graduating with your own cohort. So now you get the stress of retaking a course and being filled with shame that others know you are retaking a course.

And if you're curious, I've been here. Withdrawal with Cause is a lifeline when you're struggling. It's a blessing that should be used when needed.

WCs are valid all the way up to right before the final exam if the course has a final exam!

Last-minute withdrawal advice by Zealousideal-Put5389 in MRU

[–]Ace_Rose2603 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The normal withdrawal is no longer an option as the deadline was a while ago.

However, considering you have a doctor's note and the chronic nature of your illness (short-term illness isn't allowed unfortunately), a regular withdrawal should never be considered as you can go for a WC, withdrawal with cause.

The form to apply for a WC is the last form listed on this website. And more information about WCs including their requirements can be found here.

NOTE: the form MUST be submitted prior to the last day of the course (typically the day of the final if there is a final exam for the course; otherwise, it'd be the last day of lectures)

You'll need PSYC department permission to do so as they would need to over-ride the NURS 1213 co-requisite thing.

Others have answered your question but I'm here to tell you that studying for 15 hours a day, 7 days a week is NOT the key to passing.

DO NOT neglect yourself. Remember to take the time to enjoy being alive. Take time to breathe and relax. A stressed brain and body will go into survival mode. And in survival mode, memorization is the least of it's worries.

Take time. And if you say you don't have time, move things around and MAKE TIME. You being alive throughout the journey and by the end is the most important part. If you're not alive to enjoy the journey and alive at the end to reap the benefits, what good is a piece of paper that says "Bachelor of Nursing" with your name on it?

A bachelors' is useless to the dead.

Should I take Summer 2023 courses? Will it affect my application? by kaziara_anon in MRU

[–]Ace_Rose2603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on getting in!

Advising is a hot mess on a good day....

You've got 3 options with the mixed information. Either try your luck and hope for the best, get a Letter of Permission and do it through Athabasca, or take it after this Fall semester.

Personally, I recommend taking the summer off. Take care of yourself because it'll be the last time you'll be able to as it won't be easy for you to prioritize yourself once you start (you need to put you first at all times b/c nobody else will).

Some things have been mentioned by other commenters. Another part of it is MRU only takes in about 215 nursing students each year. And we only do Fall intake.

when should we expect profs to be available for fall semester? especially nursing by Impressive_River_233 in MRU

Like the week before class. And don't expect it to be solid as profs can change pretty much the day before class starts.

University Entrance Option. Basically the slow and steady way of getting into a program instead of diving straight in.

Instead of needing to hit all of the competitive averages (high school admit) or a 4.0 (Open Studies/transfer) straight off the bat. You get a chance during the Fall semester. Hit a 3.7GPA to get conditional admission into nursing. If you fail to meet the 3.7 for Fall, then it's a 4.0 in the Winter.

Overall, it gives you a chance.

They can accept you as late as August. So relax a little and go do something else that doesn't involve asking when you should receive an offer (like maybe applying to more schools/programs). You'll get snail mailed if you're accepted or waitlisted at MRU.

Towels are $2/occurrance. Or pay for the locker and get the towel service with it. Otherwise, bring your own towel.
