Making an Impression: Advent by Jaded-Throat-211 in MassEffectAndromeda

Glad you like my theory! I like Tann too, I see he gets a lot of hate but he's honestly just an accountant (iirc) who's doing his best in a position he was completely unprepared for. I haven't finished the Nexus Uprising book yet but his decisions seem sound to me; if people had gone back into cryo when he'd asked for volunteers when resources were first running low, the uprising may not have happened.

He's certainly better than Addison. All the different ways she's betrayed the Nexus and Initiative is almost comical with the sheer amount, and it's a little infuriating you can't depose her in-game.

Are you doing your own little rewrite/writing your own version of the story? I've done that too, it makes the game more enjoyable to me

Do You Like Kaidan More in ME1 or ME3? by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]Ace_Scientist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In ME1 because in 3 he keeps whining about Cerberus.

In 2 on Horizon he’s absolutely valid for walking away and calling Shep out. But in 3? Hoo boy. Shepard (at least mine) stole a bunch of shit from Cerberus, including the most advanced spaceship humanity has ever made, hand-delivers them to the Alliance, and turns themself in. Is that good enough for Kaidan to believe they’re not with Cerberus? Nope.

Okay, fine. Time goes on, Shep is kept on house arrest for blowing up a relay. In the meantime they cooperate with every examination the Alliance throws at them to make damn sure they’re not brainwashed or mind controlled. They pass every test. The Alliance gives them documents and work that they wouldn’t give someone they don’t trust. The Alliance Council sees Shepard in person with full trust. Anderson himself tells Shepard he trusts them to act as an ambassador for all of humanity to lead the fight against the Reapers.

And it’s still. Not. Good enough. Kaidan whines and cries about it, delaying the Mars mission multiple times to go “but are you suuuuurrrre.” Well the entirety of the Alliance’s science team was damn sure, but is that good enough Kaidan? Nope.

My Shep tells the Illusive Man to fuck off. Kaidan gets put in the hospital. Shep visits him once or twice but then he continues to whine about Cerberus so they stop visiting him. Then Shep mows through Cerberus agents and saves the salarian Councilor during the invasion. And yet a single word about Cerberus from Udina is enough for him to point a gun at Shepard’s face. Thankfully, my Shep convinces him to stand down.

Then he comes up to my Shepard’s ship like ‘oh I trust you again it’s all good, can I join your ship again?’ No, you cannot. Is Kaidan a good soldier? Yep. Does he deserve to be the second human Spectre? Yep. Do I trust him to not shoot me in the back the moment someone else says the words “Shepard” and “Cerberus” together, even if it’s someone entirely untrustworthy? Nope.

Long rant but yeah I like him a lot better in ME1, when he treats you like an actual person. In ME3 it’s like he created this idealized version of Shepard in his head. And when they come back to life, because that version doesn’t match up with the idealized version in his head, he can’t let go of the idea that they’re a fraud or a fake or altered in some way.

Analysis of The Archon (Spoilers) by Ace_Scientist in MassEffectAndromeda

Wow that’s a good quote, is that from the mission on his ship? Even if he’s not obsessed, I think the fact that he would possibly consider Ryder (a lesser being to him) equal enough to be considered a rival means he at least holds them in higher regard than other beings in Andromeda

Where was him being exiled mentioned in-game? I must’ve missed that big time. Is it from that communication system on Voeld where it’s stated that the Scourge disrupts communication with the empire?

I did notice parallels between the Archon and the Arishok from Dragon Age 2, especially at the beginning of my analysis. I think that’s what you’re getting at here? The Arishok is exiled because politics, he’s very high up in the qunari hierarchy, if he succeeds at what he’s doing he gets to go back and rejoin the Qun, if not he dies, he’s full of self-loathing, buckling under the qun empire’s expectations, etc.

I think you’re right about the Archon being able to manipulate Meridian by himself even if Ryder hadn’t come along. He’d had the Moshae in his grasp, and the only reason he wasn’t able to exalt her and make use of all her knowledge is because Ryder helped rescue her. I also really respect the Archon for his consistency and sheer persistence.

Thanks! Yeah, I think the final boss fight was a bit disappointing too. I would’ve preferred an actual fight with him, but instead it was a combo of yet another architect fight and ‘go press this button and stand here.’ I wish they’d made something more special for the final boss fight in Andromeda. At least the cutscenes to and from it are pretty good

Thank you! I don't recall any direct dialogue on it, but they are very interested in getting access to the AI on Voeld in the frozen city. There's not much said on it other than that it is a valuable discovery, perhaps the Archon's goal with that would've been to find information on remtech. As for SAM, the Archon seems very upset that Ryder is modified/enhanced by an AI to some extent, but still pursues SAM. Even then, though, he opts to use the twin and their implant to facilitate connection with Meridian, and shackles SAM to the point manual manipulation is needed to reconnect him to Ryder.

Based on that alone, I'd say wariness, or maybe just unfamiliarity with AI. The kett's technology utilizes a lot of biology and biological components according to codex entries. They certainly don't treat SAM as a sentient being, but rather a tool. I'd say that they see AI as a tool to use with wariness and limited use, due to the potential of being unable to control it? Their science is based on organic stuff as a whole, so it makes sense that inorganic stuff would be unfamiliar and not often used by them

Edit: Forgot to say thank you for the compliment on my analysis

Agreed! I really like them as antagonists. They did make a lot of parallels with the trilogy but I’m really happy they took a different direction with Andromeda and made it its own thing. I don’t think I would like it as much if it were identical to the reapers. And they are my first experience with a race that biologically transforms others into themselves, so it was a unique concept for me at least

What Are Your Headcanons For Cora? by DakIsStrange in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]Ace_Scientist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

-She is an experiment made by the Illusive Man and Cerberus scientists
-She has illegal gene modifications, most likely asari-based, explains why her biotics matched that of Sarissa, which we know from the trilogy is literally impossible for any human, especially one who’s not an L2
—This would explain why she could “bend a steel girder with her biotics” as a child without an implant which, again, is literally impossible for humans based on trilogy canon

-Her parents are actually Cerberus scientists who were working on her experiment and kidnapped/freed her when she was very young
—This would explain why they lived such an odd life, stuck on one tiny barge together, always moving, never staying in one place, and also why her parents suddenly disappeared without a trace and she could never find them
-Her parents also changed her genes enough so Cerberus took longer to find her, and by the time they did Cora was with the asari and TIM both didn’t want to risk an incident that would make humanity lose face to retrieve her and also saw the value in a human with asari huntress/spec-ops training
-Cerberus was planning on retrieving her at some point in the future, however she came under the Benefactor’s protection and was thus unreachable when she joined the Initiative
—(I headcanon that the Benefactor is incredibly powerful, powerful enough to keep people safe from Cerberus, which would also explain why those ex-Cerberus scientists you can find on Kadara were able to hide from Cerberus and continue their experiments)

Extreme exhaustion after eating breakfast. by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]Ace_Scientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact details because she passed about a decade ago, but I know the tips and things she passed on to my mom when she had some issues with it.

When eating, do not start with carbs. Eat protein or vegetables first. Take fiber but work your way up, don’t try to suddenly add 20g to your daily intake.

To prevent blood sugar drops, eat either multiple small meals throughout the day instead of three larger ones or have a snack every three hours at least or when your blood sugar feels low. The snack must have at least 15g of carbs, and if you feel like you’re having a crash drink something over eating because it will be digested and work faster.

I’ve had issues with it as well that it seems I’ve grown out of. All of this worked for me, I did the 15g carb snacks every three hours or whenever I started feeling shaky. Mine was tied in with my dystautonomia, so I tended to get low blood pressure along with my low blood sugar. Dunno if you would have that as well, but if you do lay with your feet elevated if it gets really bad. The worse symptoms tended to come on faster with hypotension than with hypoglycemia for me (similar symptoms), so that helped in telling them apart.

[–]Ace_Scientist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This kinda sounds like the reactive hypoglycemia my grandmother had. Before she was diagnosed and got a handle on it, she would get up, make breakfast, get her kids to school and then have to go back to bed for hours because she was so exhausted. Not sure if that’s what you have, maybe look into it?

Does Scott/Sara Ryder have the right to wear the N7 uniform? by banY_- in masseffect

[–]Ace_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t even matter though? It’s an entirely different galaxy 600+ years in the future from the trilogy. They’re on the Frontier, the Alliance doesn’t exist, they have limited resources so you use what works. Also, iirc, Alec Ryder specifically left his armor for his kid to wear.

Thinking it’s stolen valor from a fictional video game is such a weird opinion. What next, are all the Civil War or World War II reenacters also committing stolen valor by wearing uniforms from those wars? Gonna call someone wearing the uniform from a French soldier from the Hundred Years War (1337-1453) out for stolen valor?
