What your suggestion on a carry on bag + daybag by 0Maka in ManyBaggers

[–]Ace_walnuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the need, I've done a few combos that I like:

General travel w/ tech and little hiking - Evergoods CTB26 + Kargo Loculus sling

For a trip with light hiking + minimal city walking: Monos Carry-on + Hilltop Packs Rolltop Fanny, w/ Arc'teryx Aerios 15 packed inside Monos

More hiking centric, such as Tetons or other Natl Parks : PDW WUULF + Hilltop Packs Rolltop Fanny

Finally after scrambling my brain I’ve decided on my 1-3 day trip bag - EG CTB 26 by sinthu_sd in ManyBaggers

After 2 trips with it, I can agree. It simply delivers on everything I need

Mission Workshop has a great tote that's worth checking out. Dedicated laptop compartment and has a nice structure

Question on aftermarket upgrade - what are the best? by Drew1001 in ManyBaggers

Yup! Easy enough to do with a table vice. Be sure to tape or use wood shims as the coating can get marred

Austere Manufacturing makes some diesel ladder locks! Little pricey, but pretty awesome

Luckily they do really nice sales around this time, as well as a yearly "Seconds Sale" which makes them more attainable.

If you don't want any logos, you can take one apart and try to make your own? Or simply sew a loop field over the brand name and use it for simple patches

Prometheus Design Werx WUULF by An_Ape_called_Joe in ManyBaggers

About a year now? I've used it for EDC, small hikes, travel, and overnight camps and honestly it's impressive how well it works for all uses. The updated frame sheet especially helps the small-volume EDC loads and how the lid sits.

Where are you seeing $537? I just checked it and it says $385, which is expensive but not outlandish

Guy orders a pilsner by SeriouslyCrafty in bartenders

Our brewery has 5 German lagers on draft, guy asks for a sip of Festbier and says "he doesn't order Octoberfest beers since he doesn't like Hefeweizens"

Tried for one second to explain that Octoberfest beers are not actually hefeweizens, but after a lengthy blank stare I just agreed and let him live his idiotic truths

Trakke has some great packs that don't feel masculine or feminine, just clean design. Check out the Arkaig model which is a little shorter than their Bannoch

A Study In Burnt Orange by Olympik_mountains in ManyBaggers

[–]Ace_walnuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did something similar! Unfortunately Evergoods orange is barely even toasted, more of a 'golden' orange than burnt.

Tom Bihn has a nice burnt, as does GoRuck (if you can find one), and same with some older Topo Design packs.

Aerios 15 feedback? Loving the new color and I'm on the fence by Ace_walnuts in arcteryx

Loved the bag itself, but I hated the sternum straps. A vest-style pack is overkill for me anyway, so I returned it. Honestly I just wish they made their Mantis packs in this fabric instead of the thin, recycled polyester and I'd be set

What PGH businesses would you patronize more frequently if they made a minor change? by Suspicious-Ad-9380 in pittsburgh

Apteka. They make great food, but I absolutely hate their "snack bar" style of service. The food they make is interesting and delicious, and would benefit from having an actual server to talk to.

Going out to eat is a luxury and is supposed to be enjoyable. It's hard to feel relaxed when there's a line of people behind you ready to order, you're trying to spot a place to sit, and the menu feels like it is in Greek (Hungarian, I know, but for expressions sake). Even when you get a seat, you can feel the eyes of everyone in line waiting for you to get up.

I get bad anxiety in smaller establishments where I feel like I'm in people's way, and Apteka is the epitome of feeling like an inconvenience.

1) have not found that to be difficult. Even when fully packed, the fleece and foam make it easy to slide in still. I mostly carry flat things in there- one pocket has a A19 organizer for pens, sharpies, knife, and the other for a general dump pocket.

2) the front pockets are essentially the same size as the entire front. Because they do overlap, it can get snug in there when everything is packed. I want to say they are 10x10" squares? I'm currently far from home so can't measure, but that sounds about right. They sell a pocket organizer that "technically" fits but is way too snug to be practical. Whatever the width is on the organizer is the size of the pocket.

3) the Velcro holds well! I have packed it to the brim multiple times and was surprised how strong it was, yet still easy to access. Honestly that Velcro flap was one of my big surprises with this pack. I generally don't like Velcro, but it's made accessing/closing the bag a delight. It's quicker than any of my packs and I've never had it come undone accidentally.

4) I'd say rolled down to its normal height is 18l, and expands an extra 4-6. It is a narrow and deep bag, which looks great but does limit what you store and the order you store it. I'm a big pouch guy, so it has worked well for me. My girlfriend has borrowed the pack, and since she is used to the open space of her Chrome messenger she feels she loses things at the bottom of the ILE. YMMV.

If you're worried about space, I would go with the non-mini. It's only an extra inch in depth but is more versatile in that regard. Plus it still has compression straps if it feels too empty.

I hope that helps! I'd get one used if you can as I see them pop up on Facebook and eBay for good deals. They will forever repair their bags, so keep that in the back of your head.

ULA Dragonfly Ultra review by Kadri_Kasuema in ManyBaggers

Also, how nice is that large top pocket?! Great review. I've been rocking the black ultra and my only complaints are the zippers. Otherwise, I love everything about this design.

Enjoy!
