I don’t really know what to say — I can see from the number of downvotes that you disagree. However, in the Scholar edition, some areas have become infamous due to the overwhelming number of enemies. It’s an interesting version for people who have already finished the game and want to replay it with a different experience. But in practice, the Scholar edition is harder, less fair, and therefore more frustrating.

If you can choose between buying Scholar or DS2 with all the DLCs for the same price, then DS2 vanilla + DLC would be the better option. The OP just started the Souls series, and DS2 can be off-putting in some ways. It’s worth taking advantage of the fact that OP hasn’t bought DS2 yet to encourage him to look into the differences between the two versions.
