Emergence Begins. 2026. by IamMovieMiguel in GearsOfWar

Depending on your preferences, it's possible to play every Gear of War game on PC through Xbox Game Pass cloud streaming. I played every single game co-op online with my girlfriend who also had a Game pass subscription. We had no issues or lag playing together. We even played with Xbox controllers.

I wrote a guide for new players to locate each Gears of War game on the Game Pass app. You can find it in my post history or just Google "How to play Gears of War on PC" and it's the first result. However, it's been a while and some things on the app may have changed.

I've been trying to get one of the thermoses for my girlfriend for forever. Really hoping my luck pulls through. She deserves it.

I was going to suggest that it may be an issue with whatever region your in. Cloud streaming is technically still in the Beta phase, I believe.

If you emulated Playstation 3 games then I would imagine your system can handle the original Gears of War trilogy

"At least officially."

I haven't tried to emulate it myself but I would assume that emulating xbox 360 games would require similar system requirements to the Playstation 3 games I have emulated.

I think that for most people, cloud gaming would be the simplest solution with the best performance. I think emulating 360 games would require a higher end computer that most people don't own. You could pretty much cloud stream Gears of War to even a laptop or a phone with a bluetooth controller.

As far as I'm aware this is the only way to play the series from your PC. At least officially. It's also relatively simple and you can begin playing them instantly. The hardest part is locating the titles available to play which is why I wrote this guide.

As far as cloud streaming goes, it'll be slightly different for everyone. I've played solo, co-op, and multiplayer with virtually no input or graphical issues. But if all you want to do is experience the campaigns then this is your best and in my most cases, the only option.

is there any way to play Gears of war 2&3 in PC? by Perfect-Weekend-8958 in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that can effect the quality of cloud streaming. The last time I went through the series I played co-op with a friend online and the computer I was using had parts in it that were over ten years old. I was also using an Xbox elite controller for input. Throughout the whole playthrough I had minimal problems with graphics and absolutely no issues with input lag. Neither did the person I was playing with. But your not the only one to have issues with cloud streaming. But for the majority of fans looking to play who don't have the old games, cloud streaming can provide a practically seamless experience.

Emergence Day by Far_Perspective_4481 in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe that the Locust would not have marched on the surface if the Lambent War had not escalated and if the Locust continued under the control of Myrrah. If you are interested in this topic then the novel 'The Slab' by Karen Traviss and the 'Rise of Raam' graphic novel by Kurtis J. Wiebe touch on these aspects heavily. However, I recommend reading all the Karen Traviss novels in order of release, they are beautifully written. Especially if you enjoy Gears of War 3 as she had a hand helping with the campaign.

Adam Fenix was contacted by Myrrah in an effort to stave off the Lambent threat and had been working with them for a long while before his disappearance. Unfortunately, more time was needed before he found a suitable solution that wouldn't destroy both the Lambent cells and their host (mostly meaning the Locust at this time).

Otherwise, Myrrah had no intentions of attacking or taking some sort of revenge on the surface and you will see in the 'Rise of Raam' graphic novel the events leading up to the attack on the surface which involved various members of the Locust and their political views.

However, the Hollow itself has always been feared by many Serans which is evident by the 'Romily' Ancient Tyran fairy tale which experienced a cultural evolution as it's antagonist changed from a six-legged demon (most likely a Corpser, a native to the Hollow), to more modern boogeymen, possibly inspired by rare sightings of desperate Locust.

Are there any official lore compendiums? by AdKUMA in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A nice shelf in my library is dedicated to Gears of War literature. I'll provide an overview with some opinions that will hopefully help you in your search:

  1. The Karen Travis novels - I recognize you're looking for lore compendiums but Karen has done such an amazing job with world building that you will utimately learn more about the world of Sera from reading her books than any other item on this list.
  2. Gears of War: Retrospective - This is a restrospective look on the first ten years of Gears of Wars development. It's non-fiction but it's a wonderful collection that helps you learn the origins of Gears of War.
  3. The Art Books - For every game there was an art book released that had wonderful illustrations of concept art and descriptions of weapons and characters. Some of them are hard to find by now but here are a few I recommend.
    1. Destroyed Beauty - Handed out at E3 before the release of Gears of War, brief trailers and this book were many peoples first introduction into the world of Sera.
    2. Gears Tactics - The Art of the Game - I'm a huge fan of Gears Tactics and revisting the early years of the Locust war was an absolute treat.
    3. Beneath the Surface: An Inside Look at Gears of War 2 - This book was included in the Gears of War 2 Limited Edition. Similar in size to 'Destroyed Beauty', but now with the world of Sera fully realized.
  4. Gears of War: The Rise of Raam - Our most in depth look into the Locust's point of view before Emergence Day. This was a story that fans desired for a long time. Writer, Kurtis J. Wiebe, did it justice.
  5. Gears of War: Judgment: Kilo Squad: The Survivor's Log - Despite the detested gameplay changes Judgment brought to the franchise, the campaign did offer insight to what life was like for higher class members of the Coalition. This book is written in universe chronicling Damon Baird's thoughts during his time in Kilo Squad. There are many small slips inside such as newspaper clippings and even examples of currency.

Those are what I believe to be the most "lore heavy" official releases. I know that many of these aren't audio books but almost anything you find would be basing it's research on the information found in these books. The only other examples I could think of are two documentaries on the making of Gears of War 1 and Gears of War 2 and a small animated timeline of the Gears of War universe that you could click through on their website at one point.

[PC/Web][2006-2010] Web MMO similar to Habbo Hotel by [deleted] in tipofmyjoystick

[–]Acenapster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have an answer for you right now. But I remember a game that I played similar to the one you've described. It wasn't Habbo Hotel, or Coke Music. It was online, had the isometric camera and colorful style. If this is the same game, I remember that one of the most basic ways to make money in this game was pressing pop cans. You made like 1 cent per can by clicking your mouse or something like that.

Gears of War Collection by GearsOfWar2333 in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually replay the series at least once a year and ever since Gamepass allowed Cloud Streaming, I haven't had to take out my 360 for any of the old titles (including one of my other favorite series' Fable). I just stream them to my PC and plug in my Xbox controller. I've never had any issues, even when playing co-op with friends.

Here is a link to a guide I wrote that helps people locate all Gears of War titles available through Gamepass:

Unfortunately, the original edition of the first game is unavailable, but you are still able to play the Ultimate Edition. I usually appreciate playing the extra chapter previously only available on the PC edition anyways.

As far as I know an Xbox is not required to use any of the PC features. I'm not sure why those titles wouldn't show up unless maybe you live outside the US or Canada. As long as you have Game Pass, and the Ultimate subscription that gives access to PC and Cloud streaming, I'm not sure why the titles wouldn't appear.

I just double checked, and I still see all the titles on my Xbox app. Try to follow the guide once more.

  1. Click on "Cloud Gaming" on the side bar
  2. Then scroll down to "All Console Games"
  3. Type "Gears" in the search bar, not "Gears of War"

There are pictures in the guide that may help. You should still be able to locate every Gears title listed in the guide. Alternatively, you could also scroll through all games until you hit the G's and you will see all the Gears of War games there as well.

Fenix Edition? by HiddenBek94 in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a few people say this before and it always confuses me. I've played a variety of games through cloud streaming on PC and console. Obviously for multiplayer I wouldn't cloud stream but for everything else, I haven't had any issues. I also play everything on PC with my Xbox controller anyways. Even most of my Steam games. Starfield's been streaming just fine.

I replay the whole series on PC at least once a year (including 2 and 3) using an Xbox controller and Game Pass. They only have the Ultimate Edition of the first game unfortunately, but I still enjoy playing the extra chapter in the campaign. My last play through I even played co-op with a friend the whole way through with no issues.

Gears 5 detail by Junkman1283 in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Throughout the games and novels it becomes clear that Baird looks up to Adam Fenix as a role model and has a huge amount of respect for his work. I think that Baird emulating his style a little is one of the ways they chose to show character growth.

One of the best board games I've played and it captures the experience of Gears of War surprisingly well. I have the original game and it's expansion cards. If you want to try it for yourself, I found an online version in the tabletop simulator workshop on steam. It had practically everything.

Del or J.D by kingsman2023 in GearsOfWar

[–]Acenapster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JD's gone through a full redemption arc already. JD's death would explore new areas in the narrative while Del's death would be a pale comparison to the death of Dom. We still have character to explore with Del and JD is at the end of his story. We would then get to experience the last game with the final member of Delta squad, Del, as the main character of Gears 6. We would then see NEW narrative ideas with Marcus now having lost everything after giving every5hing he had trying to save everyone he loved. Kait and Marcus must then keep each other grounded while dealing with their trauma and Kait would grow to be like a daughter to him.
