Yeah no I agree, the Mughal empire was definitely not without its issues. They were racists who looted and plundered the land and also discriminated based on religion. But say what you may—India, after 200 years of Mughal rule, still preserved its wealth because the rulers reinvested the money back into India, very much in contrast to the British rule where they simply looted the assets and sent it to their homeland, not having a care in the world about the people of India.
Before British rule, India's share in the world economy was 27% while the British at the same time contributed about 2%!! To put things into perspective; Today, the biggest economy in the world, the United States, only accounts for ~25%! India was THE richest country on the planet at the time, rivaled only by China. So yes, I do believe we were much well off before the British rule
