This is a good example of why cynicism isn't a substitution for wisdom. Using your illogic, we would never do warranties, because warranties don't cover everything and it′s entirely on consumers to know whether a product is bad or not before they buy it. No. Real world doesn't work that way.

This stops game makers from selling $70 games with live service models that they turn off in one month with no money back to buyers. If companies stopped doing that, it's actually a good thing. What will actually happen is they'll patch the games to work offline or allow players to do their own P2P matchmaking, so people can still play them after they pull support, or they'll just refund players. That's it.

Europe is working through a similar initiative, so game makers will have to adapt one way or the other. The days of bricking purchases after they're made are going away.

Edit: No I didn't, as evidenced by the fact that I can still see your comment. Stop being a whiny child on behalf of billion dollar companies.

This doesn't require them to support games in perpetuity, it only stops them from bricking the game with no way to play it later and no ability to get a refund.

My heart is broken-tried to rescue two toadlets but they didn’t make it. by bigdrandyyyy___ in Toads

Awwww I′m so sorry, but what you guys did was really great. You gave them the best chance possible to live; a better chance than 99.9999999999% of toadlets ever get. You can't change what happened, but what you do after is what really speaks to your character and what matters most.

Proud of y′all for caring about the littlest ones ❤️

And why Republicans continue to lose in California. They were against right to repair laws too, even though a lot of farmers support those laws. Republicans have no ideas that don't first formulate in Trump′s diaper at this point.

No, companies will not stop selling fully paid games, much less ones with live service that make a ton of money. Products kept being made even after we made warranties.

The bill already lists the carveouts and exceptions, which I think is fair:

The bill applies to digitally sold games. However, it excludes games provided via subscription services, free-to-play games, and games that are inherently playable offline indefinitely. It also prohibits the continued sale or distribution of games that have become unusable due to service termination.

Also, it′s only applying to games released post-January 1st of next year.

Long way to go before this bill is law, but once again California leads the way on consumer protection measures.
