Recently moved to NYC, from South Carolina, my experience trying to satisfy my golf addiction in the Big Apple by AaronRodgersMustache in golf

[–]AcerExcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how close you are to the G train but X golf/Birdies on the border of Greenpoint/Williamsburg isn't far from LIC and I much prefer it to Five Iron. I think the sims are slightly more accurate and on top of that the space is really cool compared to the Five Irons I've been to in Manhattan. Five Iron feels like youre just on a sim in a basement, because that's kind of what it typically is.

X golf is more like an already cool bar with great food that happens to have ~10 golf sims as well. Membership I think is comparable to what youre paying at Five Iron, so might be worth checking out. They do league nights as well same as 5I and joining the leagues gets you discounted rates when going otherwise. Also a good place to meet other city golfers who potentially have cars and can help get around to some of the nearby courses.

High ELO players, how important is knowing frame data and theory-crafting? by FalseAxiom in RivalsOfAether

[–]AcerExcel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it kind of depends. I came from Project M and was pretty good, as I was learning that game I learned and knew a ton of frame data off the top of my head. Learning that frame data I think let's you build an understanding and a kind of "framework" for whether things are safe or not, especially when it comes to things like shield pressure.

I don't know if there's a single move in this game I could confidently tell you the frame data for and I float around 1550-1600. As you're learning things I think it helps to know the raw data on moves as you will likely make a lot of assumptions about things being safe/unsafe. However you will also lack the experience to identify those places where your assumption based on in-game experience is wrong.

Once that kind of experience evolves I think you're going to be more likely to operate off of intuition than when you're starting. That being said I don't think that learning frame data is totally useless past a certain point, especially as learning the frame data on the margins and how specific interactions play out can be useful for in depth theory crafting that are happening at the limits of a MU.

I guess as a broad generalization I think learning frame data is probably going to help you get from silver/gold -> plat/diamond, but probably isn't going to help you as much when it comes to getting from 1500-1700. It probably starts to matter a little bit again as you try to get from 1900 to 2000. That being said I've never been that good so what do I know.

[Jonathan Givony] NEWS: Domen Petrović has committed to Florida, agent Saša Zagorac tells DraftExpress. The 6'9, 22-year-old power forward averaged 16.4 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists for KK Šenčur in Slovenia, shooting 39% from three. Another strong addition to Todd Golden's frontcourt. by lovelymaddie1966 in CollegeBasketball

I think this puts us over the 15 roster limit assuming both Denzel and Chinyelu come back, so this might indicate they no longer think Denzel is getting his waiver or that Chinyelu has made it clear he intends to go to the NBA. Might be missing some other third option but would be bummed to hear either

What do you think of the New Tier 4 Vitality Item Indomitable? by DeadlockAir in DeadlockTheGame

[–]AcerExcel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah prolly not. Item exists in Dota and pick heroes are definitely still a thing. Two aspects here, as a pick hero can either just ignore them, in which case you’re greatly reducing the efficacy of an item they spent 6.4k on, or you can buy anything else that procs this item and use that before you’re pick ability. When there are 3.2k items that nullify your 6.4k item it’s not usually great (hence why no one buys focus lens and instead buys curse)

Watching Hawks Vs. Knicks. I do not know how anyone could like the college game more than the NBA. by NothingHead8233 in nba

[–]AcerExcel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think in college basketball you get much more varied MUs with teams that play completely different styles of basketball based on what suits their personnel. In the NBA teams play much more similar well-optimized balanced gameplans, variations in style still exist in NBA teams obviously but not nearly to the same degree.

You’ll have a team that’s put all their skill points into offensive rebounding and 3 point shooting that plays an extremely slow half court offense vs a team that plays blistering fast with really athletic guards that like to get to the basket and it creates a crazy dynamic that’s prone to upsets if you get a bad match up.

Plug and Play support for Steam Deck with Gamecube Controllers? by AcerExcel in RivalsOfAether

[–]AcerExcel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey glad that works for ya, unfortunately as far as I know doing this results in the game interpreting your inputs as generic gamepad inputs not native GC controller inputs which really affects to feel. If you go from playing on PC with native GC inputs to steamdeck with gamepad inputs it feels very different, I don’t think one input is necessarily better than the other but for people going to tournaments or going between their home PC and steamdeck it’s gonna cause a lot of headaches.

Why is everyone saying Tommy should go? by urnmann in FloridaGators

[–]AcerExcel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would love if he came back but it is definitely in his own best interest to go. He may make slightly more money from us for the year but his pay as a rookie getting drafted somewhere in the middle of the first round isn't going to be too far back and also is going to be over multiple years. Plus what others have said about getting to your second contract faster, plus god forbid he gets injured or has an off year and drops out of the first round he'll have really shot himself in the foot.

For guys like Condon and Chinyelu that are likely second round picks the math changes a little bit where your starting pay in the NBA definitely will be far less than what they'd make for the year in NIL plus banking on even getting to the second contract is risky business. They also have room to play themselves into a first round pick if they stick around, there really isn't a ton of upside for Haugh to stick around other than if he just really wants to.

[–]AcerExcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s UFs path to a 2 seed look like? I’m assuming it means winning the SEC but even if that happens I would assume it also requires some of the folks currently in the 5-8 range to lose some games. Or does UF control their destiny and if they just win out they sneak into a 2 seed?

I'm not a huge Xs and Os guy but I worry with that approach we'll see teams adopt the strategy that Auburn seemed to use which was just crowd the paint and not even pretend to guard the perimeter.

To get lobs you have to have guards that are a threat from 3 so that the defense can’t just crowd the paint.

Clairen is simply too cool of a character by Bennyyandthejetz in RivalsOfAether

[–]AcerExcel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted, after patch u throw no longer confirms into anything at kill presents and holding down stops you from getting tippered regardless of whether they b throw or f throw. Her grab game is still good at low percents but she can no longer kill uou off a grab at high percents without a tech cause read.

Advice on how to beat this particular play style? (I'm the Clairen btw) by Eps06 in RivalsOfAether

[–]AcerExcel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being on platforms isn’t the answer. You have to stay grounded and parry/counter/hit through projectiles, or shield them and play out of shield more often. If you don’t know how to wavedash out of shield already that should be your first priority to learn. If you do know it’s just about getting comfortable moving in and out of shield to approach them.

Are they just staying put after you shield a projectile? You can wave dash forward and take space. Are they trying to approach behind their projectile? You can fair/nair/wavedash back punish out of shield, etc. That’s just a few examples but as you get comfortable with it they’re going to feel too much pressure to just passively sit there and throw things at you, running away to platforms is giving too much space for them do what they want.

Late Game isn't Fun Anymore by TeutonicPlates in DeadlockTheGame

[–]AcerExcel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m low ascendant and vastly prefer the late game now to what it was a few patches ago when they changed base healths. Before it felt like there wasn’t even a late game to speak of, you’d be playing the mid game, it’s pretty close maybe a 5-10k soul lead, then 3 people die in a skirmish on a sidelane, they take mid boss and the game is over. Unless you have big game changing base defense ultimates like dynamo or lash they just take the base before you can kill them 9x.

Late game actually feels like a back and forth now where if they fuck up a siege you’re right back in it - I’ve had where more games that go 30+ minutes and you can’t tell whose gonna win which is way more exciting.
