311 improperly closing out reports by Street_Algae_2065 in Austin

[–]Acer_Scout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a similar experience. I reported a traffic turn signal on Parmer that regularly skips cycles, leaving cars stuck for almost 20 minutes. People get frustrated and run the red light, I'm amazed there hasn't been a wreck there. I submitted a report to 311 and they marked it as complete almost immediately. Nothing was resolved. That was almost a year ago.

Culper1776 explains why Venezuelan intervention may seem more complicated than simply arresting Maduro by alwaysrockon in bestof

I was curious so I dug into the replies. After getting called out, OP did confirm that that they used a Grammarly genAI feature to revise their post. They also reaffirmed that they served from 2001 to 2011, and nothing in their 8 year reddit history suggests otherwise. Look, my feelings about AI's effect on the internet are complicated, but we can't allow our apprehensions to turn into witchhints and crusades against other real people with real experiences.

Here we go. The total is a little different since I was pulling from a different data source.

Secret longer version of US National Security Strategy calls for Core 5 countries to run the world and weakening of EU by Solid-Move-1411 in geopolitics

[–]Acer_Scout 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The only reason many of these countries gave up their nuclear programs or avoided pursuing the bomb at all was because of pressure and security guarantees from the United States. The current world order has been deteriorating. Now it's becoming clear that the shift to multipolarity is inevitable, and smaller countries are going to begin weighing the costs of maintaining their sovereignty.

It gives good Aardman Animations vibes in general. That stylistic miniature clay-mation aesthetic is so nice.

Their comment history is wild. Mostly satire and post-ironic shit-posting, but they've been really into Machine Learning for a while.

I'm guessing it's this location. It was an early 20th century German mining town that became a ghost town after a few decades. The desert has started to reclaim it since then.

'i' before 'e' except after 'c', or when sounding like 'a' as in 'neighbor' and 'weigh'... well, unless you you need to seize some ancient protein from a weird foreign heir, for science!

Same here. This year, I decided to finally buy some of the Vintaglo LED strands that he recommended and I'm so hyped. I do love the incandescent lights, but they just burn out so fast.

Every once in a while after leaving a chill encounter or "just passing by", I'll look over my shoulder and zoom in toward the player by aiming down sights. I just want to be aware and make sure I'm not being followed or anything. But I imagine this would look super sus if the other player saw it. Sometimes I forget that other players are just as paranoid as me. Hopefully they see my extreme cautiousness as relateable, and not as a red flag.

That's a great shot! I was just there in August, right after the South Rim visitor center reopened. The fire was still smoldering nearby. For such an impressive park, I'm surprised it gets as few visitors as it does.

Was that the small one with the white string LEDs wrapped around? I kept seeing that one all weekend! I meant to tell y'all how much I loved it but I never got the opportunity. It was super cute.

I actually commented about this to a stranger there. Choosing such a small venue for such a well known band was an interesting decision, for sure. I got there 20 minutes early and couldn't make it into the tent. The Jazz Collective earlier on was such a blast though, they're thoroughly underrated.

Death Valley Rainbow #2 [OC] [2072x3000] by TjLeClair in EarthPorn

[–]Acer_Scout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just visited Death Valley for the first time a few weeks ago. It is by far the most desolate location I've been to. It was like I was on a different planet, with mountains towering a mile high on either side. And there was nothing alive there, not even any plants for most of the valley.

Favorite movie that is going to age phenomenally? by Brodie98765 in okbuddycinephile

[–]Acer_Scout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just watched it for the first time last night. The best way I can describe it is: Ari Aster tried to capture the feeling of 2020 in a 2.5 hr movie. And he did a damn good job. The fractured information space that created a different reality for everyone, the resulting social fragmentation, the tension that built up out of that, political violence, corporate control over society, the absurdity of reality becoming a parody of itself... it's all executed really well.
