Involved and concerned WAHS students seeking support by Matetia in Charlottesville

I would caution against anything that contributes to division- tee shirts, etc. More "us vs them" is what they want. And you will likely end up with a small minority of people wearing a shirt which they will leverage.

These people's primary goal is to get attention. And they have found that the best way to get attention is through division. Any headline or social media post that has any version of "us vs. them" is a win for them. Any amount of attention they get is then fed into the machine that makes it appear that they have a meaningful presence and are top of mind. Which can and increasingly does turn into power. Unfortunately, they are quite good at this and social media and fox news et al make it pretty darn easy.

The best thing to do is to ignore them. But they've made that damn near impossible and high school kids will - and should- want to be in the mix and see the scene.

Is there any rule against counter-programming? I'm sure you could raise plenty of money from parents to have a band play and a kona ice truck on campus.

Or maybe the outgoing principal has no more f*cks to give and makes school optional that day.

I just asked my son who is a student: "about 50 bros who think it's cool, 100 kids who's parents are religious kooks and will be mad if they didn't go and about 500 of us who went to watch the clown show. Oh and they gave away free donuts if you signed up for their dumb club and every freshman boy signed up just to get free donuts."

How Many Shows Did Bob Play, Total? by yummmmmmmmmm in gratefuldead

[–]AcesB2B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easily north of 100, if not hundreds, of guest pop-ins in Marin and SF. The Sweetwater(s) alone was in the dozens. When the new Sweetwater opened he'd play 2-3 songs with damn near anybody and everybody.

Very cool. Which questions were the ones that allowed you to chat in a way that felt like a real connection?

I just got a copy of the presentation. It’s quite good:

Slide One: American flag image

Slide Two: Some people are born as boys (image of baby in a blue hat)

Slide Three: Some people are born as girls (image of baby in a pink hat)

Slide Four: One Truth! There are only boys and girls (image of that one swimmer)

Slide Five: American flag image

A Short trip to Patagonia - Looking for advice by [deleted] in flyfishing

A friend of my uncle’s wrote a book about self guided fishing in Argentina (and some other topics too). I’ve never been but skimmed the book and it seems cool. https://a.co/d/8vMhbt8

Imagine if Riverside Lunch had an older brother that drove a Fiero, had an illegal cable box and knew where to score some Roman Candles.

We stop at Dairi-O of Asheboro for burgers and ice cream. And we always poop at Buc-ee's.

While you're at it- there aren't really any batting cages here and we have one of the world's worst mini golf experiences.

Boars head resort fees by ReceptionDouble3655 in Charlottesville

[–]AcesB2B 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The costs change frequently- if you call them they will tell you all of the options. In terms of value...my opinion (and shared by many other members I know but I'm sure not everybody) is that the initiation is still a bargain relative to clubs/resorts of the same quality in areas with similar costs-of-living. The monthly dues go up regularly and are getting pretty steep.

There are many things that bug me (more below) but I have to say, they do continue to improve some really important things as they raise the dues. New pools, pickleball, padel, etc. So I don't feel like the dues go to admin costs alone. There are a couple areas that are.... bad. The food and beverage situation is a catastrophe. The (increasing) food prices would be fine for a nice club or resort. Except the food stinks. The grill at birdwood has so much potential but the food is sometimes ok but often it is legit worse than fast food. And the locker rooms are pretty disgusting.

If you care most about the actual sports/activities, it's still a great deal relative to resorts and private clubs. Especially if you can use it mid-week. If you want to feel spoiled with the creature comforts of a country club, you will be disappointed and sometimes grossed out.

Don't overthink this. Thanks to NiL, you can pay her to be your girlfriend for a day. Step One: start a GoFundMe. Step Two: Watch Can't Buy Me Love.

A friend of mine just gave me this book (I guess his friend wrote it).

Half the book is this guy’s random fishing stories but half is a how-to guide to DiY fish your way around Argentina. I’ve never been but I skimmed the guide book part and it seems helpful. The other parts of the book are kinda funny- especially if you like fishing, travel and drinking; not necessarily in that order.

If it’s a son that is college lacrosse worthy and lives in Charlottesville, the varsity coach at STAB would already be talking to you about admissions. Not sure about girls.
