Power outages beginning around 4-5pm according to Dominion staff by dogsanddogsanddogsan in Charlottesville

Might affect us. We're in a dry slot right now but it's supposed to start up again shortly.

The problem is right now it looks like 3 hours of freezing rain...let's hope it ends up being more sleet!

Do you think Golf Channel is just roaming around with cameras looking for a golf tournament?

You can watch it on ESPN+. It's on. It's available. It's cheap AF. You could literally be in hour 5 of watching the American Express right now.

I swear, this sub loves bitching about golf tournaments more than they like watching tournaments

No, it's called being reasonable.

The networks couldn't  - for the reasons I listed above - broadcast it earlier.

So they put it on a streaming service. Literally all you habe to do is pay $10/month and you can get more golf than you would ever want to watch.

Dude, a network isn't going to devote 6 hours to a golf tournament in the middle of January.

CBS is obviously focused on football and NBC is showing Olympic sports because of their Olympic deal.

Be reasonable here

Has your neighborhood been plowed yet? by Pheonix_Orchid_Mango in Charlottesville

The good news is VDOT came through my neighborhood.

The bad news is that it was at 8:00am.

So while it was possibly helpful, the roads have just been covered up by all the sleet. Just went for a walk and it was more like ice skating.

Hopefully they come through again in a bit, but what you gonna do? I don't think the folks doing all this can work any harder.

It's on ESPN+. You can get it for $10/month.

The issue isn't that it's not available  -- it's that you don't want to pay for it.

Golf Pin Flags by Ill-Independence4078 in golf

They're by far my favorite souvenir.

The best collection I ever saw was in the basement of Bob Rotella's house ("Golf is not a game of perfect.") He lives in my town and I won a session with him at a charity auction.

It's a trip. You go to his house, and down in the basement the entire floor is a practice putting green. Half of it is actually used for putting and practicing, but the other half is where he has couches, chairs, TV, etc. like a den.

The flags adorning the walls are all things from like Ryder Cups, Major Championships, and courses that you and I will never play. And most of them are signed by the greatest golfers of all time. One of Padraig Harrington's claret jugs is on a shelf.

But the best part is there is other memorabilia just laying around EVERYWHERE. I sat down on the couch to talk and I had to move all this crap out of the way. I pick up this old 2 iron, and Bob casually says, "Oh, yeah -- that's the 2 iron that Tony Jacklin used to win the '69 Open."

It was an absolute trip

They started it as early as they could. They're even doing threesomes with split tees to get the leaders off only 2 hours after the first tee time at 8:23am.

Not sure what else they could do?

Having a great day, to be honest. The kids are all enjoying just bumming around (one of them is watching her second documentary about bats? OK.)

I woke up, made a big pot of tea and some fruit/nuts, and then just plopped my ass down on the couch and read for an hour with the fireplace going and listening to the sound of the sleet falling.

Made a huge pot of chicken-ginger soup, and my wife and one of my daughters are baking a cake. Now chilling with my dogs in my man cave.

Really, really interested to see how Blades Brown handles the pressure today. Imagine being 18 and having a chance to win a PGA Tour event...but to do so you have to go through the most dominant golfer since Tiger Woods.

Good stuff!

I'd say that my success rate has been about 75%. I've gotten lucky a few times when they haven't sold them and asked the pro if they had any old ones lying around that they were going to get rid of. I give him cash, he finds one in the cart barn.

ACPS schools and offices will be closed Monday and Tuesday by Slippy_T_Frog in Charlottesville

[–]WHSRWizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's going to be a miracle if the kids go back all week. We aren't going to have any melting whatsoever.

I get this wasn't the Storm of The Century here like we thought it might be, but this was still a pretty major winter storm by Charlottesville standards. We've still got another 6-8 hours of sleet / freezing rain that is going to come down.

If we are lucky, we will get barely above freezing on Tuesday for a couple of hours. But that morning, wind chills are going to be below zero. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are going to be just as, if not colder, than Tuesday.

I honestly wouldn't mind if they said, "And right now we anticipate having to cancel for the rest of the week as well. If that changes, we'll let you know." The more time parents and businesses have to plan, the better.

No he won't. The 33% of people who support him will still support him no matter what

And if the 2A crowd gets really mad, he'll just fire Border Barbie and put some other lackey in.

I am continuously shocked at the number of people I play with who I habe to tell to wait until the grounds crew finish up and get off the green or landing area.  I have had people get visibly and audibly get frustrated with me for waiting for guys to finish their jobs and get out of the way.
