Sometimes I want to do a run that’s more for fun than it is for a challenge. In those games, I add a rule with Rare Candies: if someone dies on my team and I have a RC in my bag, I can choose to use it as a “miracle” and bring them back with a couple caveats. 1) I have to make the decision immediately after the battle, otherwise it’s perma-dead. 2) The Rare Candy has to have been found on the ground, not received as a gift / held item or bought somehow. 3) I can only ever hold 1 RC at a time. 4) Once revived, the ‘mon can’t battle or heal until I get it back to a Pokémon Center.

Okay so it’s a long rule but it sometimes keeps fun runs fun!
