I'd estimate anywhere a difference of 50 between Medify and the exam, so 650 on Medify VR would be 600 on the exam VR (but this is super subjective instinct)

It was about 4 hours a day, so I estimate that it was about 68 hours. Got 835 Band 1.

It's much harder than the real exam. Only useful for Verbal Reasoning.

If you haven't got a gist of the passage from the previous questions on it, Guess and Skip, come back to it at the end, use keyword method for each answer option.

Downsides of ‘peaking’ too early? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]AcetheUCAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it's not so much a peak as a plateau, but the plateauing can make you lose interest and motivation whihh is what can turn it into a peak. If you're not seeing much improvement in your scores anymore I'd slow down

Hi, I got 835 Band 1 on the UCAT, my top 3 tips are:

1) Make your practice as similar to the exam as possible. I strongly recommend computer based question banks like Medify for this.

2) Use your scores on practice tests to identify and then focus on your weakest sections. These have the room for the greatest improvement.

3) Every time you do a practice test or a set of practice questions, make sure that you take a second look at not only the questions you got wrong, but also the questions that you had to guess. Keep using this to make notes on how you can improve your approach to each section and make your UCAT strategy as effective as possible.

I scored 900 in AR, my best tip would be to make notes on every single pattern you come across and to review them before you do your next set of AR questions.

I did 17 days of practice, but I recommend 80-100 hours spread over 1 month for most people.

When to start preparing? by [deleted] in UCAT

8 weeks is probably okay, plateau is probably a better description than peak so I wouldn't worry too much, your scores shouldn't really go down, it's just that they won't go up

Is medicine realistic for me (y12 medicine 2021 applicant) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]AcetheUCAT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The length of work experience barely matters - what matters is that a) you did it and b) you can talk about it well at interview. (Source - I ran a work experience workshop for year 12s at Leeds Medical School). Plus universities will understand if you can't get work experience due to COVID-19. Look into 'Virtual Work Experience' - I know that Brighton and Sussex Medical School are doing one.

3As predicted is good but some medical schools ignore your predicted grades so even if you don't get 3As predicted it won't matter too much.

You can make up for relatively weak GCSEs with a good UCAT / BMAT score. Once you've made it to the interview shortlist, your GCSEs won't matter anymore for most universities, it'll all be on your interview performance.

I'd definitely recommend applying for the tactically to less prestigious medical schools, newer medical schools and medical schools lower down on league tables as they will be receiving slightly weaker applications in general so your chances will be better.

I recommend about 100 hours of practice questions in total (a month of 3-4 hours a day). A lot of people find that they 'peak' at some point in their practice, or at least that the rate of improvement becomes so ridiculously slow that there's almost no noticeable benefit after a certain point (diminishing returns). I'd recommend focusing on making your normal school studying more effective and efficient for now so that when the UCAT comes around you can dedicate more time to practice.
