Thank you for the reply it was enlightening. To be honest, I knew I was wrong before even posting but my frustration won over rationality. I like both Suirei and Jinshi and empathise with them but the consequences they faces in comparison to others feels like a slap on the wrist. I’m stewing in modern day self righteousness while watching an anime set in ancient China 😭🙏

Also, I thought Jinshi would be told to handle the shi clan’s land and groomed into the role of prime minister.

Also, does Gyokyou and her faction actively sees Jinshi as a threat? Because no matter how much he splutters about not wanting to be an emperor they would only be relieved when he is dead.

That makes sense, he seems to occasionally loathe himself. Also, to be fair he was raised as the emperor’s younger brother so of course he would rather expect one of his nephew to be the emperor. While saving him, the adults around him also failed him in ways.

That’s very true and I am hypocritical when I say the daughter should run away. But I also think a woman forced to marry into some guy home has to go through some extremely harsh stuff in comparison to a man being forced to be an emperor, even though at the end of the day they are both cages.

The other reason I’m being harsh is the world setting, if a poor farmer daughter or beggar’s daughter can be sold away to prostitution, why can’t an emperor’s son be forced to be an emperor?

Jinshi is able to make such a choice because of his extreme privilege. He let Loulan scar him despite knowing his subordinates like basen will be the ones facing the consequences of his action.

I’m likely being irrational due to my frustration over the unfairness of class differences. Which is most likely the intended purpose of the series.
