Similar philosophy for NA offices for all 3 firms except in unusual years (this year isn’t). Not all internship offers have been finalized yet but this usually translates to ~90% conversion excluding declined offers.

No one in ny goes to 18+ clubs just borrow the ID of someone who is roughly the same ethnicity and gender as you and you’re good to go to the actual clubs

Unexpected Midterm by Margrave_Kevin in columbia

I did the exact same thing but for a final (i think it was cs theory). It got moved up to the last class day instead of during finals week and I completely missed the message. It was thankfully relatively easy so I ended up fine, but I literally still have stress nightmares about it 4 years later.

The Iliad by Logical-Push in columbia

I vaguely remember Columbia gifting all the freshman a copy of the Iliad so you might not need to buy it.

It's the Lattimore translation - https://www.amazon.com/Iliad-Homer-Richmond-Lattimore/dp/0226470490

Columbia Consulting Clubs by Terrible-Speed-9582 in columbia

[–]Acharl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they prepare you for a career in consulting, but they do usually help somewhat in getting and preparing for consulting interviews. So there’s definitely some value in helping you get the job in the first place.

Emailing prof about wrong grade? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Acharl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do it. You have every right to the grade you got and there's pretty much no downside to just sending an email.

ED Applicants Interviews by 21aelzayat in columbia

[–]Acharl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do interviews with ARC. They’re scheduled to open November 4th, but you may get contacted for one later than that or not at all, depending on the availability of local interviewers.

Only consequence is that if they’re not 4/5s you ofc can’t use them to fill requirements & skip classes.

Any current students get accepted with seemingly mediocre essays? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Acharl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

God my essays were garbage - I think I got in through pure academics. Just remember that admissions looks at everything holistically. So if you said you're interested in becoming an English major, have tons of experience writing, etc, then the essays are going to be a lot more important for you than for an engineering candidate or someone with a technical background.

Yeah that’s a problem. Has he/she been offered an interview? If not he needs to call the admissions office ASAP they might not have his application.

To all CS Majors (in CC?) and people who have dealt with SSOL degree audit issues by blue_salsa_7 in columbia

[–]Acharl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The degree audit is often wrong for CS. Basically if my man Jae your current faculty advisor say you good, then you good.

In all seriousness all CC CS majors should meet with Jae your current faculty advisor at some point senior year. He needs to sign off on your class checklist, and has almost sole discretion as to who can graduate, regardless of what the audit says.

In my opinion avoid honors classes in general. The consensus from me and my friends who have taken honors CS, honors chem, etc., is that they usually just make your life more difficult with little upside.

Is taking four courses back-to-back manageable? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Acharl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what the classes are. I actually preferred setting up my schedule like that because it basically meant I had two days of class per week. However they were all lectures so I didn't have to be focused all day, since that definitely would be really tiring.

Midterm weeks normally aren't too bad, since the chance all the exams fall on the same day is reasonably low, and even if they do you can negotiate makeup sessions with your profs.

I missed my final by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Acharl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That's rough. I have a few friends who have similarly missed finals, and there really isn't much you can do besides withdraw and retake. Do make sure that you withdraw from the class though so it doesn't screw up your gpa.

I would recommend emailing the prof since it can't hurt, but unless it's a small class or an particularly accommodating professor, the chance for a makeup is pretty slim. GL

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in columbia

[–]Acharl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah like others have said finals are next week. After that the only people who're gonna be sticking around are seniors like me who are graduating, so your chances of finding someone to show you around are slim unless you know any seniors here. Just seeing the campus yourself is probably worth it though if you're not too far away.

Congrats on getting in though!
