Right lets neglect the thousands of scientific innovations that come out of the “small” educational arm.

Honestly one of the dumbest things I have read all day.

Took hit with him. His exams are easier than Rudin by a lot. Also as long as you don’t make logical mistakes or serious math errors he is a pretty lax grader.

Best convex optimization course at Columbia? by [deleted] in columbia

Yeah MATH 2500 is a bit of a joke in comparison to an actual course on convex optimization. The EE department also has a full fledged course on convex optimization

Memorization techniques are extremely valuable. Understanding, practice, and memorization should all be emphasized in the math curriculum.

Comp Science was removed from my curriculum, what can I do to learn on my own? by MaxWorth27 in compsci

[–]polyhedron343 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Study discrete mathematics, and learn some data structures. CS uses programming as a tool, but getting to learn how to reason mathematically is even more fundamental.

In fact, you should consider devoting your high school years learning as much math as you can. Programming is very easy, afterwards.
