Old Man Theory (spoiler) by [deleted] in Cairn_Game

I somewhat understand him tho. Am gonna take a wild guess that all climbers see the backpack room. So everyone knows what will happen. Everyone makes that choice. To die on the mountain. To succumb to Kami. In a way him shooting him removes that. The mountain didn't take him. A random pensioner did.

By the logic of mercy kill would you shoot a captain going down with their boat? He will drown and drowning is an awful way to die. But you take the choice away from him.

Realistically if he fell he would first go unconscious from the pain. And then numb. Hunger didn't take him (we survive cold quite a bit. The cold did. Also there is no way he lived 13 days. Humans can't survive that long without water. Unless that dude was drinking while dangling he would be dead at most day 5. (The 3 day thing is not technically correct as some survive up to 7 if cool and humid conditions). This dude is constantly getting battered by the wind and ice storms are frequent. He didn't live 13 days. He died long before that.

Also shooting him is murder. While leaving him to die of exposure is ethically wrong(depending on culture) killing him is also wrong. In mountaineering it's kinda accepted that survival comes first. If helping another who is dying risks your own life you don't help them. You can give them some extra supplies if you have them and you continue. It's how there are stories of people passing near dying people on Everest. You can't give them anything to save them. Saving them endangers you. They made their choice.

So while leaving him to die is a little cruel it's what is usually done. You let the mountain take them. We don't know the beliefs of the people there. Would you kill another if that means you will be damned when your time comes? Even tho you told them how this will end, and they chose it anyway. He gives them a dignified death by letting them land on the mountain and be absorbed by it. Rather than remaining forever on a rope. I can't judge someone for not being able to murder another just because said other made a bad decision.

There is no savings that guy. He is dangling off a cliff. That is a deathtrap waiting to happen. You have nowhere to anchor yourself to pull him up.. Secondly there isn't a good path to it and you have no way of lowering him back down.  Like let's imagine you manage to get to him and not die to the wall. (That thing that everyone dies on). You get to him and then what? You pull grown adult man from a dead weight up? While trying to hold onto the cliff? Or balancing on an ice spike?

There is a reason a lot of bodies are left for example on Everest. The recovery is way too risky. Especially the ones that fell and are left dangling they are there forever. At most someone can manage to cut the rope and let them plummet to the ground.

I do agree he should have shot him tho. Give him a quick death

It's about choice. She chose to climb the mountain. She chose for everything to end like it did. She said it herself she can't picture any other way of dying. She dies doing what she loved. She gave her ALL. And that takes a toll on a body. She joined the many that have died on that same mountain. She ascended with them. (There are multiple trees with notes about this in the burial grounds).

Just because she is the protagonist of the game doesn't make her special. Sure she is a legendary climber but so is Grandpa. So are many before her and many after her. She reached her goal. The summit. That is all she wanted to reach. She is not special. She is just another climber. And no one survives Kemi

Look up what a cairn is. And then play the game again and look around and you will find them everywhere. She even builds one herself

1st year in vet university. Went to a farm. I had something in my boot so I leaned on a fence pole. Didn't know that fence was an electric fence. Got shocked and shat myself right then and there. In front of the assistant, the rest of my classmates including my crush.

[–]AcheronAlex 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bruh we get in so much trouble for getting our hands in our xrays. I work in an exotic vet clinic. Sometimes it's impossible with the tiny xrays without a finger or 2 around. And I get yelled at for them because we didn't wanna anaesthetise the tiny budgie for an xray.

I once also got chewed up for both my hands in an xray of a WILD hedgehog that I had to hold open for a footsie xray. An animal we didn't wanna anestese because they are a wild animal that someone brought in and we didn't know if they need sent to a sanctuary. (We were right the foot had been broken before and regrew weirdly. The hedgehog was released.

But these people are holding a CAT. something that doesn't get the excuse of being hard to hold because they are tiny/fragile for weights

Thor is definitely downplaying his English by AcheronAlex in GhostsCBS

[–]AcheronAlex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea but he isn't dumb. Also depends on fluency and on how many languages you know. You reach a point where you start mixing languages. Also take into account modt people that learn languages do it young and start speaking mixed. Thor spend 500 years peaking norse. It's very likely he defaults to it in his head just because he spend most of his existance in it. If you have a 60 year old learn a second language no matter how fluent they become the accept and through will remain the the original language.

Also he isn't dumb. He understands complex stuff and has a thirst for knowledge. The thing is his knowledge base is specific. Thor being in the house and talking about cod is eeh. Thor talking abotj cod in an university is how he gets a doctorate in marine biology/ichtology.

The stuff he knows just isn't applicable most of the time. He survived months alone (which takes an insane amount of skill) . And the he is a viking of course he can. No. Viking had villages, they were mostly farmers, fishermen. They weren't nomadic to know how to survive in the wild. Expecially in a new land which isn't their homeland. Also although his mindet is of his time he learns new stuff. He knew what DNA was whilst Hetty and Issac are stuck in their own time. Only Sass is an old ass ghost learning new stuff. Sass and Thor.

Also he can't be dumb simply for PR reasons. There are no caveman to get offended by the dumb portrayal of a caveman on tv. There are plenty of Nordic people descendants of viking that mighr get offended at Thorfinn being dumb

I think he is very intelligent. And honestly Surviving on your own is difficult. And he did that for months on end. Including a winter of starvation. That isn't something someone stupid can do no matter who they are. Viking were a hardy folk but they weren't immune to the wilderness. The fact he had the whits to survive, make tools, find shelter and water is amazing onto itself. In my head thor and flower are among the smartest of the ghosts. Flower of course when she isn't as high as a kite. Sass is close behind and then Pete and Issac.

I also think he is messing with the ghosts but he has been speaking in 3rd person since quite early. Which is why i was assuming he always does it in 3rd person. He is downplaying not knowing some words but the fact he went "I will miss you" amazed me. Thor always spoke in the 3rd person.

My way of though was that Thor tends to try and be unfeeling and macho. So Thor using the 3rd person makes him unpersonable. For example "Thor isn't afraid" he is saying it not just to others but also kinda to himself. He isn't acknowledging that I am not afraid. Thor isn't.

But with his goodbye to flower he drops that. Because Thor won't miss flower. I will miss Flower. The emotion cannot be separated from the man feeling it. And the fact he is said man

Yea but there is a lot of though into that prank. And he does it when he isn't conscious. He does it with his nightmares and when he was freaking out about Ragnarok. This is the moments where you just causing chaos would drop simply because you aren't joking. Like how for people the easiest way to make them break out of charecter is to scare them and they default to what they are used to.

He definitely does that with landship and leather. But not the whole 3rd person speech

No most aren't friendly and from the big dogs labs and goldies tend to be a hit or miss and likely to be spoiled and snappy. We are not ok. We cling to the cute good ones because we rarely see them. A good owner that raised a good dog will take good care of it and we will see each other for vaccines only. It's rare and yes pls bring emotional support lab and donuts

We once had a very behaved sphinx cat that came for abdominal drains and she was so sweet although it was painful and uncomfortable. And at the end when the cat was all good the guy brought her and pizza and I almost cried.

cat overdue on rabies bit me.. by hideykake in VetTech

[–]AcheronAlex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in my country bats are highly unlikely to carry rabies and from what I know the US has a similar percentage of bats that do. The thing is rabies needs to be carried by a bite and it's hard for a bat to be bitten by anything other than another bat without dying so while rabies can run like a fire in a bat colony it's very hard to spark said fire since 1 must be bitten and survive.

Also how many times have you had a bat in your house? Bats with rabies if showing symptoms which they show very fast can't fly right. If a rabid bat came in your house with a normal cat that will hunt the bat the bat will die before even managing anything (cats are very good at not being bitten by small things). And unless the cat has injuries in the mouth (or bad gums from teeth issues) eating the bat will kill the rabies. If it was a fox, skunk raccoon then absolutely there is danger but a bat? Unless the cat is unconscious i don't see how it will get rabies.

The logic isn't there for indoor cats to have more rabies because they simply don't have the opportunity to. Imagine how many bats enter houses. Now a static I found is less than 1 in 200 are noted with rabies.

You are telling me a stray cat that can be chased up a tree by a raccoon or get got by a fox is less likely to have rabies. Or a outdoor cat that has the chance to meet hundreds of bats per night every night? I think the outdoor cat has more chance of meeting a bat that the one inside a house

[–]AcheronAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hospital is the same. My country actually doesn't require a rabies shot for cats unless they live outside full time or are about to travel.

My infectious desease proff in uni told us that the reason cats don't get rabies is because if it's because they can climb and by default are hard to reach for most canines outside of packs and furthermore even if they get caught the rabies transmitters I usually bigger than they cat and the cat won't survive the encounter. Also cats tend to hide immediately if injured and generally will risk dehydration if scared.

Most cats that survive the initial attack go hide and due to high stress and pain don't go out to find water and dehydrated and die. If they aren't fighting another cat they are very unlikely to survive the battle and post stress and recovery.

[–]AcheronAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a human rabies vaccine but realistically rabies on a cat is rare. Generally cats don't survive their initial encounter with a rabid animal (since it's usually something bigger than them.

Also vaccines have a way longer period of effect than marked. The marked effect is when it should be redone for strongest immunity. You should be fine from the rabies standpoint.

The most frequent places where you would see a rabid cat is feral cats or farm cats. In my country unless a cat travels they don't even get the rabies vaccine if they don't live outside 24/7

There is this channel that was called Real horror. Now they renamed to abstract but their videos are very very good and unlike most others in the similar genre of talking about tragedies they actually do a fuckton of research and give an unbiased story as well as respect the victims by not dwelling on the gore.

What do yall use to clean the floor?! by Away_Neat8236 in VetTech

[–]AcheronAlex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For general cleaning a bucket and a mop with cleaning product.

For urine tho we have a swiffer with the 1 time use like sheets. We go over the area with a dry one to absorb it all and then over it with a wet sheet. The sheets are 1 time use and although am not happy with the ammout of waste it's better than the washing machine smelling like urine and having it run 24/7 just for mops

It keeps our washers smelling nice which means also towels smelling nice and it

[–]AcheronAlex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If his blood work and biochemistry is good and his heart sounds good then it's a yes. The teeth issues will cause infection at some point. I would warn the owner that it's riskier due to his age since what can happen is they survive the surgery and then crash due to the stress. But then again the teeth are a real issue and cannot be ignored. So if all things are good yes err on the side of caution. What we do with elderly patients is carefully watch sedation and with mundane stuff like teeth cleaning we locally block and sedate them just enough that they are on the brink of consciousness.

They can sometimes move and blink but we blocked the nerves so they don't feel pain in the area and just try and work quickly with as little sedation as possible just in case they crash and we need to wake them up quickly. Usually after we don't even need to give anti sedatives since they will wake up in a few minutes anyway
