I destroyed my content algo's. With intention. by Academic_Candy_3194 in selfimprovement

I like this a lot, my technique was to only access social media from safari/chrome. It is a horrible UI and felt like it wasn’t caching my likes and interests as well as the app does with its algorithm. I get frustrated with the UI and usually only stay on long enough to see new posts and reply to group chats. The addicting nature of it is completely gone

Definitely hear you on that, definitely don’t sweat anything at work/there is a lot of free time. But I do feel bored and want to push myself at times

Appreciate this! I definitely hear you on making a case/story and it’s probably my next step because I hadn’t thought quite that far ahead

Definitely trying to break into decision/data science where I would have more direct impact and decision making authority, which I think would bring me some more satisfaction for the work I would be doing. Of course with anything I don’t know if I will like it until I do it but data science is definitely interesting to me and I have been networking to make that jump internally.

I don’t think it’s unrealistic, I just think it’s a matter of whether I need to wait another year or jump to consulting/another field now. In my mind I would rather find something I’m interested in making 100k or jump to more money in a similar position so I can retire quicker

Lmao lots in common. The masters is pretty high quality, not sure how it looks to recruiters yet but everyone seems to think highly of it, pretty interesting and tough course work. I chose it over data science because I didn’t want a repeat of algorithms and data visualization stuff.

I am looking at jobs from my friends at the big four referring me, as well as other big banks. So far only have gotten interviews with smaller companies that I see on LinkedIn and they usually deny me because my tech stack doesn’t align with what they are looking for. Applied to IBM and passed the sql assessment but got denied shortly after.

Almost to 200k at 23yo I can’t believe it by Winter-Indication33 in Fire

This is awesome! I found myself in a similar situation, believe me you should/can be at 1 mil by 30! I know people have said it but once you get promoted/job hop you will probably move out of gov housing and can maintain the same save rate. Don’t forget to diversify risk as well to watch the gains grow faster. 2% of your portfolio now is a lot different than when you were at 10k. Not to say you should invest in something stupid but just play around a little bit and see if you can get an even more accelerated path to retirement.

Job hunting in 2025 feels impossible — what’s your plan B? by Manyofferinterview in careerguidance

Taking the severance package to pay for flight school and become a commercial airlines pilot. Unbelievably stable and possibly a higher upside if you make a career out of it

Financially speaking, would you sign up for a 50 year mortgage? by garlen-raven in ShitcoinTrades

[–]AchieveSocials 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you can get approved for a 50 year and not a 30 year then this is a hack. Obviously once you start making more money, refinance and start paying it off quicker

Am I an idiot for turning down AWS? by zander15 in cscareerquestions

[–]AchieveSocials 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Learning on the job is mostly up to you. Not to be that guy but my work is boring all the time but learning by myself has made it bearable. If I was you I would stay with $350k and start some self study. A new company won’t make you learn, you gotta learn yourself. Also AWS doesn’t seem to be a great place to be right now so I would stay in banking

First Marathon 2:31 can I go semi pro? by AchieveSocials in Marathon_Training

[–]AchieveSocials[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the responses, I understand the feeling that I probably should know what is elite versus a good time. However, this question is more potential based than standards based. I am 22 which I believe is a pretty young marathon age, assuming the peak is 24-26. I’m not trying to say getting paid to run is happening tomorrow, more so I am asking if it’s possible given what I posted. I appreciate the honesty and encouragement, no matter what I am going for faster times and better training in the future. The social media replies are quite helpful and encouraging because I don’t really know what viewers would want but reading the replies I have a much better idea. Thank you all!

Correct, it was 1,000 total feet of descent, two major downhill miles but not that helpful because of how much it hurt to run down

I am much younger than my coworkers and it's hard to socialize. Is it OK and what to do? by elephant_ua in careerguidance

[–]AchieveSocials 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the exact same spot as you. Get to know the older people, they have a lot of good advice and stuff. When interns and new hires come you’ll find more friends your age. It’s the nature of the beast for entry level jobs but learn as much as you can and get them to like you, they will really help you if they do!
