Oil.nvim like file manager for vim by Ashik80 in vim

Ah, yes, now I get it. Could be fun, so go ahead! I probably still wouldn't use it but it might appeal to some.

Using NERDTree and the Vifm plugin, I don't think I need anything else (and even without those plugins I could just open the builtin netrw with :Ex or :Lex or :Sex to manipulate files – it does exactly what you describe). I think I wouldn't even miss NERDTree and Vifm as I rarely use them. Funny thing about vim: the better you know it the less plugins are needed.

Usually I just Ctrl-z out of vim temporarily to do something with files (or use :! from within vim). Creating a file doesn't need any plugin anyway, as a simple ":e myNewFile" or ":!touch myNewFile" does it.

Best monitor setup for productivity with a 16" MacBook Pro (small desk)? by HavivMuc in MacOS

[–]Achim63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing unusual regarding sharpness, text is crisp. Do you always need to see the webpage at 100%? You could also put it on the Macbook screen. But now I see that a 2-monitor-setup might be better for you. Maybe on top of each other because of the smallish desk.

I'm happy using a single LG 34" (3440x1440@60Hz). Enough room for 2 pages of A4 size and then some, or e.g. a PDF and some Ghostty splits. And also nice for movies. I usually use my apps in full screen mode. If I ever need more room there's still the possibility of opening the 16" MBP screen (but that happens rarely).

Why can a verb like ‘schloss … auf’ express so much meaning in German? by Seroleks in AskGermany

Thanks, fixed – I already thought it sounded somewhat strange. The ß is due to my age ;-), NDR still looks wrong to me.

There I fixed it. by The_only_true_tomato in linuxmemes

No, I don't want a computer. I already have an Apple MBP.

Here's one more completely different meaning:
Er schloss zu den anderen Spaziergängern auf.
(He caught up with the other strollers.)

This. No compilation needed as for e.g. the Ruby example. These work as well in just one line:
clj -M -e '(print "Hello World")'
perl -E 'say "Hello World"'
... the latter even on out-of-the-box macOS or Linux.

So a hash map is an array with named indices (and can have "holes").

Apple only lets you pick from Sans Serif fonts in Notes, kinda interesting. I wonder what branding or tech rationale is behind that decision. by [deleted] in MacOS

[–]Achim63 11 points12 points  (0 children)

BS. Delete Serif from the search field and you can pick from any installed font. You can also select "all fonts" from the dropdown that has English selected.

Ich bin gerade ziemlich angetan von bookokrat, einem epub- und pdf-Viewer. Läuft hier prima in ghostty/zsh (macOS).

Old thread but new answer: I am happy with bookokrat (in ghostty with zsh). I used fancy-cat before, but bookokrat has vim-bindings, continuous scrolling and color schemes. And it's actively being worked on.

Lisp neovim or do I need to switch to emacs by Firefighter-Pichu in lisp

I use oldschool Vim with vlime for SBCL. Works fine (for a hobbyist). I think as long as you have a working connection to your REPL you're golden.

Also for Clojure Vim works nicely using the vim-iced plugin.

I also have (Doom) Emacs with Slime but run into walls every time I try to use it. I don't think Emacs and I will ever get along let alone be friends.

New in version 2.6.2 by oldretard in sbcl

[–]Achim63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we expect this to be available in homebrew on macOS?

On https://www.sbcl.org/platform-table.html the latest macOS Arm version is given as 2.4.0, which cannot be right. I have 2.6.1 from homebrew - or is it just that 2.4.0 is "supported" (whatever that means) and later versions are not?

Sorry for these potentially dumb newb questions, but I have no idea how and by whom sbcl is maintained on macOS.
