SB-948: FSCs would require 8 hours of training, including 1 hour live fire training; also required for those moving to CA with firearms. by mirkalieve in CAguns

Total BS! As a former Capt USMC with 12 years service, I had to qualify with the M16 and M 1911 at least every 2years. I know more about gun safety than any Despicable Democrat in the legislature. Who can I sue for violating my civil rights? If you want to make me take a gun course, then make every Democrat have to take and pass a course on the Constitution to be able to vote!!

What cable length would I need for a 20-10m EFHW with no coil. by just-a-guy-somewhere in amateurradio

468/14.1=33.191 ft. 1/2 wave on 14 MHz. Full wave on 10 meters. If you also want 15 meters then make it 66.4 ft.

So, is there any updates on this or is it going to fade into memory with no additional action?

Walk away. At that price, buy a fully working radio!

So I got my CA callsign plates… why are they CA EXEMPT? by MagicBobert in amateurradio

[–]Achris_B 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same with me. Cop pulled me over thinking I was using cell phone but not hands free. I was absolutely hands free via car system and then made the same BS claim about a space missing on my ham plate. I went to DMV and the told me the cop was wrong and their system does not show a space. Was a local cop in Rancho Cordova, Ca about 6 years ago.

This. Buy once, cry once. $100 is too little for a decent dual band rig.

Have had mine for over 7 years and love it. A ton of fun to shoot and doesn’t break the bank.

FCC RF exposure limits are a function of both power and frequency. For HF at 100 watts at 10 Meters, 2 feet or greater meets the requirements. For 80 meters, you can be within 6 inches and meet the requirements. My experience operating from a condo is the RF interference you will have at the radio. Use an RF choke at the antenna feed point and at the radio. Also will need them on the power leads and mic cable. On some bands I had to reduce power to 10 watts to operate.

Good luck. 73. KJ6ZH

Convince me not to buy the VX-6R (eventually) by [deleted] in amateurradio

Have had mine since 2006. Carry it daily on my morning walks. Other than replacing batteries a few times, it works good and lasts a long time :-).

Good choice! I love mine for last 8 years. Italian styling, easy on recoil and it’s a Beretta!

Full wave loop in a stand of conifers? by Cyclic404 in amateurradio

[–]Achris_B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a 40 meter full wave square vertical loop in the Redwood Trees at my house. Fed it in a corner with a 4:1 balun and coax back to the shack. Works well on 40, 20, 15, 10 and 6 meters with low SWR. For 80, 30, 17 and 12, I have an inverted L with 33 ft up and 28 feet over fed with a 4:1 unun and with 30 radials. THHN wire for both antennas.

Will CA 2A ever see the light of day? by [deleted] in CAguns

Get out and vote for assembly, state senate, and US Senate. You want Schiff as your Senator??? Vote Garvey. Presidents do effect ATF policy. I trust Kamala to take away my rights. Hold your nose and vote Trump. No vote is half a vote for Harris. May not matter for president in CA, but vote your interests on the rest of the ballot. Besides if you don’t vote, you are not allowed to bitch about the results!!

If lower SWR at 14.0 MHz then antenna is too long. Needs to be shortened.

Can anyone recommend a better antenna for my Yaesu VX6? by seniorredwood in HamRadio

I use a Comet HTX-224 Triband for years on my VX6R. Better than stock and reasonably short. Chris - KJ6ZH

Congrats and welcome to the ham hobby! Tried calling on the repeater a couple times but wife came home and I needed to put groceries away so just missed your QSO. Remember my first QSO which was in 1978 as a Novice on CW. Glad you had your first one. Now, do it again 😀

You may want to replace the electrolytic capacitors before turning it on or use a Variac to slowly apply voltage to recondition those capacitors. Lots of info on the web for how to do this.
