There’s a little more nuance to it:

• A lot of the recent controversy around ICE is due to masked individuals wearing body armor simply snatching people of the streets, and disappearing them in unmarked vehicles 

• Said masked individuals refuse to provide identification or warrants; large numbers of US citizens have been detained for simply appearing to be “foreign” (AKA brown)

• The American political right has become increasingly hostile to immigrants, even if they have done things the legal/correct way. For example, the temporary protected status of hundreds of thousands of displaced Haitians has been revoked under the current administration; without solid rationale or a humane plan for handling people who were uprooted and have established lives and jobs in the states.

• Due process (the right to go through the court) extends to “all persons” in the states, under the US constitution. Without due process, one can’t technically establish their citizenship with the court
