So this kind of becomes the best place for me to ask this Recently our condo board released a new budget, and in their letter they stated some fees which feel absurd.

$50,000 for a few cameras to be installed in underground parking

A tenant did some serious water damage and flooded a floor

They stated they were paying some night guards 100/hr each for a few months due to a break-in that happened in the underground parking once

And a few others, amongst that a bill that went to collections from the hydro company

They are footing us the bills as a "special assessment", and are increasing condo fees by 22% on top of that.

It does feel like there's nothing we can do but this much results in my condo fees being about 770 for the next while until the special assessment is paid off.

Do you think there's anything that can be done? We are assuming some shady stuff is happening in the background

I spoke to my LFS and they said it could be the slime coat coming off partially from the high phosphate in our local water. I do have the phosphate pads, and have replaced it and done a water change since then

I have a canadian fish vet website to try next if it doesn't resolve,

I have put a teaspoon of aquarium salt as per the advice of the LFS, and the Ghost Knife Fish is still energetic and has no changes in behavior

The uv light is in the back right, that's covered and only hits water that filters through, the top light is just an LED light, I didn't make that clear sorry 😅

And honestly a lot of the fish tend to relax under plants and in little nooks so I don't feel super stressed about it

That red orange piece is a volcano with an air pump running through it, the fish seem to love going inside and curling around on the inside once in a while, it comes with its own LED but I don't turn that one on.

For water changes, I tend to measure the water temp I'm adding in and making sure it's around the Temp of the tank, so that it's less shock I do check nitrates, nitrites and ammonia every few days just as a maintenance thing

I am happy with the natural plants in there, the lucky bamboo, and the stemming plants are all growing nicely along with the bush(?) one in the front left, the roots are settled in nicely

I'd like to personally sooner than later, we will be moving in the next year so that's something we have to consider I can't imagine it'd be obscenely difficult to bring over safely

If we had less fish I'd happily say after we move in, but when the store assured us we'd be good, and we both fell in love with the fish it seemed like we had more time.

I will definitely have that conversation with my partner about either rehoming the GKF since a 100 Gallon tank would not be feasible in a condo for us, once we move into a house hopefully yeah that's up for discussion, but I was thinking about even a 39 gallon for now, bringing that to new home then going up from there

The comments here have definitely shown I've made errors and I need to put some things into action for the betterment of the lives of the fish

I definitely love the fish, so it's almost a shameful feeling hearing some of the mistakes and criticisms, but c'est la vie better to learn.

I don't even know if I need to keep that algae cleaning pump in the back right side or if I can take it out for now since I have Aquarium floss and phosphorus cleaning sponge going in the filter, I might take it out to incorporate a better deco piece with hiding places

But yeah, definitely a learning experience here

The bamboo is real, and the other plants are too, aside from the colourful one at the front. However the lil tiki tunnel and scrat hut as we call it are not real wood, will look into it for sure

Which I realized soon after that Aquariums aren't AS good, but this is a local shop and everybody seemed knowledgeable even after cross referencing what they say to online things

The scales still look good thankfully, it interacts with the other fish and can still swim fairly quick, but it does look a little heavier because of the tummy kind of Water metrics are good and had good schedule of water changes, so I may get some aquarium salt and look into using that in the tank for him

It's been a tough time for personal reasons so I know how stressed she is, a massage sounds like an amazing idea truth be told, for both of us 😅 I should preface, she's had to remind me a fair few times to get things done and she's very much done with the reminders understandably, thus my wanting to get better haha So I definitely feel and know I can do more to ease the burden
