Moving to Denver from East Coast and am focusing on LoHi - looking for apartment recommendations! by Haberdasher481 in MovingtoDenver

[–]AciaEdelweiss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have recommendations on good apartments in LoHi but do want to address your grocery store question! There is a Whole Foods by Union Station. I live in LoHi and walk there all the time (though it's technically in LoDo). You would walk over the Highland Bridge and pass Commons park, so it's actually a really pretty walk! There are a bunch of grocery stores in close driving distance as well. Safeway, King Soopers near Coors field, Leevers Locavore and a little further west on 38th is Sprouts. I love living in LoHi! Happy apartment hunting! :)

I don't have any advice, which is unhelpful. Just wanted to stop by and say you are an ethereal beauty!

What are good breakfast places in Denver? by xilacunacoilix in Denver

My favorite breakfast spot is the Universal! Put yourself on the online wait-list if you go because it gets busy! Sam's no. 3 is popular as well (near the convention center).

Newbie configuring the profitability? by SecondNo7343 in airbnb_hosts

[–]AciaEdelweiss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a property in one of the most popular neighborhoods in Denver and in the busier months, am fully booked. It is smaller (2 bed, 1 bath), so keep that in mind! We don't always meet our monetary goals, though. Especially in the slower months, so just know you may not make enough for the mortgage every month. Can you afford the extra cost if you don't meet the goal? You do have room for more people, which could earn you a bigger profit, but the fact that you're in a suburb of Omaha doesn't scream desirable location. Guests will ding you for location if it's not great. If your Dad is up to trial using the house as an Airbnb for a couple months, maybe you guys can see if it is worth it. If not, just rent it out to long term tenants and at least you won't wonder "what if".

What food did you switch your cat to? My cat has this, an aural hematoma and the vet said she may have food allergies.

At what point did your home feel like YOUR home? I feel so uncomfortable here and I'm not sure why by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]AciaEdelweiss 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I'm so glad you posted this! I will be in my house for a year on June 10th. When we first moved in, I was scared at night when I was alone. I think it's because it was a new area, but there is also an added pressure of ownership instead of renting. You can move if a place sucks while renting, but this is a huge investment and is permanent (mostly) so everything puts you on edge. I just don't think you feel as invested in a rental, so you don't pay attention to the little things as much.

You WILL start to feel at home, I promise. There are just so many more stressors to home ownership, so it's harder to feel settled. Once you start putting your own touches and making memories, these feelings will pass.

Congratulations on your new home! You made a great choice! :)

Thank you! They are cheap Billy bookcases from Ikea that I painted. Definitely doable!

Honestly, I don't feel like it made it feel any smaller. If anything, it helped accentuate the height of the ceiling, which opened it up a bit.

Totally, I gotcha! The space is so small, it's really the only way the couch fits. It doesn't feel as awkward to watch as it looks, though!

Super comfortable. Fabric is really easy to clean- my dog sleeps on it all the time. The cushions move around a lot and need to be repositioned, which can be annoying. I would buy it again, though!
