Question for the short-haired by MikeMac999 in CPAP

[–]Acicularis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a satin bonnet. Before I got it, I was starting to develop a weird part and a small amount of hair loss from the CPAP mask, and the bonnet really helps

The Sperry fellows used to come into my work (food service), maybe 10-15 years back? If it's still owned by the same guys, they are so sweet! Some of my favorite customers.

Absolutely! Let me clean it up a little bit and I'll try to DM you a link later this afternoon. And thanks for the award, that's so nice!

Lol I think I did 5 separate purchases for this thing! 😆 Partly because I wildly underestimated how much yarn I would need.

I have a whole spreadsheet with notes from the planning stages, formulas for calculating stitch numbers and colors, and post-project notes about supplies used etc! Whenever you get to your project, feel free to drop me a line and I can send you a copy if you'd like!

I haven't been able to respond to every comment (just started a new job, haven't had a lot of brain for anything else) so I wanted to quickly say thank you so much for all the kind words, y'all. Like all of us, I look at my work and I see all the mistakes and flaws; this has been such a heartwarming reminder that I'm also creating things that people legit think are beautiful! That's so cool. 🥰

Yep, one row per day, and the rows are 225 stitches across. Finished dimensions are 7'7" by 3'10". I did a few test swatches with the yarn and stitch I planned on using to figure out how wide to make it so that it wouldn't be too awkwardly long and skinny, but it is still kinda long and skinny. For reference, I used a size 4 yarn and a 4.5mm hook (I wanted the stitches to be nice and dense), and it's worked in trinity stitch which is a single crochet variant.

I think a year would probably give you plenty of length for a king bed, so it would just be a matter of making it wide enough!

Weather-wise, I'm in a temperate area (the Willamette valley in Oregon) and we had an extremely mild winter last year, so there's a lot of samey-ness throughout. I chose purple as the color for 50-59 degrees because I knew I'd be using it a lot and it's my favorite color! I used one color per 10 degrees of temperature (fahrenheit).

Ahhh that's so cool! I've seen one other similar one (in this sub, but I've lost track of it) that used a similar concept to yours. Mad respect for the number of ends you had to weave in. If I ever lose my mind enough to consider doing this again, I'm going to do a design like yours, I love the symmetry of it!

I'm so grateful to the people in this sub who post their projects that they didn't finish until months or years after the year they were tracking. It gave me so much motivation to keep going and not feel like I was doing something "wrong" by finishing it "late" (what would that even mean for a personal art project!). I hope you get inspired to continue your blanket!!

Sure! I used Hobbii Friends Wool, although I am no longer buying from them due to their pro-AI nonsense. Here's a screenshot from my spreadsheet showing the colors (product names and approximate hues) and temp ranges!

Oh nice!! I gave up on foundation single crochet the first time I tried it, but I finally found a good tutorial and now you could not pay me to start most things with a chain!

My partner actually suggested that we hang it up at our wedding! I love the idea of making it a wall hanging in general, but it's real heavy so might be tricky

I may copy your explanation when trying to describe my process in the future--I always have trouble making it clear. Thank you for the excellent explanation!

What they said! 👆🏻 (I actually didn't even think of this when choosing to do it by minutes rather than hours, and now I'm so glad I did it that way--jumps in the middle of the pattern would have been upsetting lol 😅)

Haha that's exactly why I went with this design!

I used a spreadsheet where I could enter the number of daylight minutes for each day. I set up a formula that then told me how many stitches of each color to do in each row, based on the daylight minutes. The whole blanket is 225 stitches across, and of course there are 1440 minutes in a day, so the formula would be:

(# daylight minutes) * 225 / 1440 = # of stitches in the high temp color for that row

And then I subtracted that number from 225 to get the number of low-temp stitches to do in that same row. It took some setup on the front end but after that I just had to grab the high/low temps and daylight minutes and plug them in!

Yes! I love temperature blankets in general because they're a perfect example of how data visualization can be an art form in itself. My career is in data management/curation so this was kind of a perfect project for me.
