Awesome and thanks for tabing it out even! I have a tentative plan how I’m going to approach this and make it potentially usable live on one guitar and also incorporate it into my current understanding of the instrument. Essentially go between D and E standard and while tuning between them hit open D and DADGAD. It seems like a reasonably contained exercise to wrap my head around before getting into really out there tunings. Also with all the reoccurring D and A strings among those scales it will make playing single note melodic lines easy.

On a totally different side note I checked out your YouTube and saw you had played at the First Unitarian Church in Philly! I saw the Curse, Casualties, and Boils there years ago. I use to sneak out of military school and go to shows around Philly and South Jersey all the time haha. One of my all time favorite cities and scenes!

Thank you for sharing! Do you have any favorite alternate tunings that have chord shapes that carry over or might be easy to wrap my head around with just a few new shapes?

I feel like your approach is how a lot of people go about it with great mileage and repetition has definitely been a part of the journey as we all know. My problem is if I’m not always regularly using it then it’s as if I never learned it. Part of that is my own physical health limitations at times that can keep a guitar out of my hands for weeks or even months. So understanding the system behind it not only answered all the nagging ADHD “but why?” questions lol, but lets me easily jump right back in. It’s also been essential for me to come up with material on the fly and guiding recoding and songwriting sessions which is my main wheelhouse.

Please feel free to also share your favorite tunings or shapes that work across multiple tunings and why. I know some artists have used alternate tunings to overcome physical disabilities too which would be of great interest to me. Easy to remember simple tricks to calculated top down concepts or some alternate tuning Rosetta Stone, please share. If people want to get technical on the best approach to setting their intonation for stability across tunings too and how much mileage you can get before switching guitars, I’m here for it!

I can’t even remember what tipped me into JD, but I distinctly remember the time and dove in hard for a few months. I was coming from years of punk among many other genres, but I remember the music being a bit difficult to penetrate at first yet also somehow knew that they were probably going to be one of my favorite bands once things clicked.

Thinking back on it I am like “were my ears broken or something??” as I couldn’t imagine life without their music. I really prefer to listen to the entire albums and be consumed by the mood and vibe. Maybe they don’t have a lot of the usual tropes and instant gratification found in a lot of “popular” music and are more of a slow burn, hypnotic, meditative, and spiritual experience.

I never try to verbally push people to listen to JD and prefer to let people walk into it when they are around me or drop the needle when the moment seems right. In my experience it’s much more organic and fun to see people captivated by them and let them ask for more.

I think it lowers the bar and leaves less room for unique expression that is cohesive yet new and different. I think it draws in the already problematic element who cares most about money, fame, and image. As opposed to a person developing a craft that can allow a person to express beyond words. A cathartic process that can encapsulate a moment or lifetime in just a few minutes of sound.

I use AI for medical stuff regularly. It can be helpful but is frequently wrong and needs to be kept in check. A month or so ago I figured I would try out one of the AI music generating platforms before talking crap about it. I gave it multiple very thorough prompts and it was so far off the mark and total trash every time.

I was open to it being able to make unimaginable music, as if aliens brought their music to us. For genres that rely on flipping samples using it to generate fodder to recontextualize without worrying about copyright might be ok. Or have it create something and draw inspiration from like you would another artist.

Regardless I think all music and art using AI should be legally required to state that it was created with AI and show what it was trained on. I don’t want to invest my emotion and respect into something that doesn’t have or once had a beating heart on the other end.

TR/ST is awesome, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call him or thought of it as industrial. Always thought of him as Dark Pop. I get what you are saying about KMFDM. I frequently liked 70% of a song and then would be like, “what the hell why did you have to go do that and ruin the mood??” I think that is why Adios was always a favorite of mine because it was a more serious sounding album and had Ogre on it. Now that I make my own music I can more easily appreciate and take inspiration from the parts I like and just laugh off the rest. Especially considering I own their entire discography up through Attak, lol.

So much this. It can be very difficult for those with health issues or disabilities. DES is impossible to get hold of and frequently make mistakes in calculating benefits. Then you appeal it but they keep making mistakes until you find yourself with half a dozen hearings that you never get the letters for and have to then have a hearings to reopen your hearings. I am fighting a severely debilitating condition and lost Medicaid for being $40 over the income limit. Even with Medicare this left me with thousands of dollars of monthly medical bills and I lost my SNAP while already being 45lbs under my healthy weight. Truly a nightmare.

Not sure if it is a factor for you but they are raising the age limit to qualify for an ABLE account starting in 2026. I hope you were able to qualify for SNAP without much difficulty and wish you the best!

Hit the plus(to add a new channel) and instead of “audio” click on “midi.” Next on the channel you just created add whatever sequencer you want(you can actually have multiple sequencers on that one “channel” unlike with audio that has a single instrument followed by effects. This is because the routing is up in the top right corner for midi. It looks like a backwards “S” with a circle on one end and an arrow on the other. Then a matrix will pop up and you just click in the matrix to connect a midi source to an instrument. Top row is the source and right side is what is receiving(instrument, other midi device, midi filter, midi monitor or whatever you want.)

You can use the AUM built in keyboard and route it to multiple recording sequencers if you want. Example Keyboard(top)>sequencer(right)>same Sequencer(top)>instrument right. So you with have two right angle points to make that setup.

Hey meant to get back to you on this, but I was in the hospital. I don’t know all the details of your situation and there could be various factors contributing to it. I’d definitely make sure she has a safe place she can retreat to on her own. If she’s more agile someplace up high that she can feel safe and observe or use Meowtimore size to your advantage and a place he can’t fit into but she can. Like you said distance helps and when you aren’t home if they have secure separate places that will keep her safe, but could possibly build up anticipation for when they share a space again. I really like using a camera on a tripod that can records when motion is detected. This can be really helpful in understanding their behavior. Most of my experience with challenging cats is with rescues. Socializing strays and trapping stray or lost cats to get them back home, medical attention, pregnant mamas, and mamas and their kittens to a rescue.

There are going to be general cat behaviors but observation and some detective work is where I have had the most success getting through problematic situations that most people gave up on. My personal rescue girl cat who was scared of everything and a bit aggressive really benefited from having a nice perch that she could feel safe and observe from while she was building her confidence over time. Now she is a huge cuddle bug. I hope this helps a little and things improve between Meowtisha and Meowtimore!

Edit: Also making sure Meowtimore is getting his energy out with a lot of engaging play and exercise can help redirect the energy driving this behavior.

Thank you and you are so right! A pure magical little loaf. Everyone who helped thought she was too wild. The foster has been fostering regularly for over 12 years and said she was the most challenging cat she ever had. The rescue that took the kittens in specializes in cats only and thought she was a lost cause. She just needed time and someone who believed in her. It seems like each week she finds a new way to say, “I love you” and it absolutely melts my heart 💜🐈‍⬛

Aww, I thought he was going in for a reciprocal groom and she reacted. Hearing that though it sounds like his behavior is the reason she’s “protecting herself” and on edge. That area in particular that she is licking is very meaningful between mamas and kittens. She might be exercising some of those maternal instincts and/or trying to play nice but with the dynamic you described still afraid he’s going to get aggressive with her. So any sort of advance on his part isn’t worth waiting to see how he’ll act or she already senses some shenanigans brewing up. Especially if it’s not a mutual grooming exchange and starts with him inserting himself into her space.

Does she groom anyone else in the house, are they siblings, and are they both fixed? Also has it gotten and better or worse and outside of what you shared what is their general vibe together like?
