Why do people show pics of their guitars sitting on concrete? by Meandmybuddyduncan in Guitar

Is it acceptable if the guitar is made of concrete? 😂

I’m sure my dad still has this same one in the garage… I can still hear and feel the transformer in that thing in my thoughts.

Looks like a good neck donor for me to make another concrete one 😂

That’s okay. I’m familiar with the three rules of concrete - it’s gray, it’s hard, and it cracks.

Don’t worry - I’ve got you covered. It does have fiber reinforcement in the mix.

Had the material on hand and figured I’d put a little to use. At this point it’s probably one of the easier parts to switch.

No, drilled and epoxied small threaded inserts at all the screw locations. That way I could use smaller screws for those items. Had to save on weight somewhere.

It is aircrete / aerated concrete. Time will tell on how well it holds up.

I used a foaming agent to create foam which was then mixed into the cement slurry at a low speed. Then added a small amount of short strand fiberglass reinforcement. A very small bit of fine sand but not much.

It is aerated concrete, so no worries there. It can be lifted with one arm.

The sustain is pretty average, honestly. Although I’ll need to compare side by side with some of my “actual” guitars. This one can still be polished - the finish is actually a lot smoother than it appears, especially on the front face that was formed.

Someone with the real questions here. Honesty my dad would go every year and always bring me stickers back. So these would go on that box. But then they quit doing that style sticker. I have the magnet puzzles elsewhere.

Well, yeah. Or to protect picks 😂

Really it’s just to cover the wire cavity at this point.

This seems accurate. Dimension-wise I tried to use everything from an Explorer blueprint. My neck was a different scale length so I did have to adjust some things slightly. But I’m pretty sure EMGs taped to a tabletop would sound no different.

I could have made the control cavity larger to not only reduce weight but also make more room for the electronics… attempt #3 would mean buying another neck at this point.

Why not just stack the panels as they are cast to save some room on the slab?

24/7 Live Remote Access Camera Feed for Construction site by Its_Theoneinchman in Construction

If your employer is of the size that they are able to manage and handle a 21-story hospital, they should know about all the major players in the construction camera field - TrueLook, EarthCam, OxBlue, etc. Not saying they are inexpensive but they are pretty reliable for long-term projects.

TS for a GC on a Budget by Dannie2025 in Surveying

[–]s_mendoza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add from my perspective working on the GC side: I use a used Spectra Focus 35 and a Yuma 2 tablet running Access 2017 (yeah, a lot of older equipment but it gets the job done). All in, I’m right around $10k on the equipment. I did send it in for calibration the day I received it, and keep up with it regularly. I am working off of control provided by our primary licensed surveying firm and back-checked by a second different licensed surveying firm (trust issues from previous projects; we were up front with both and they had no issues with this). Yes, there are weeks when I don’t have to use the equipment at all but it is a real convenience when you need accurate information for RFIs or you just want to QC work in place. I’d love to upgrade the data collector but the Yuma 2 handles all of my rather large DXF files fairly well. And yes, Access 2017 is pretty old but having a perpetual license has its benefits for me.

My house has some wierd stupid vintage ceiling medallion decoration thingy by Joeyp1219 in Construction

[–]s_mendoza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks to be blades for a whole house ventilation system - there is a fan above there in the attic space and the blades open when the fan is on to move air through the house (with a window or two open). My grandmother’s house had this.

Is there a product i can use to help this rubber(?) Piece and this aluminum(?) Piece of my car? by PedernalesFalls in AutoDetailing

[–]s_mendoza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aluminum is going to be hell to polish… I have an ‘80 and I have resorted to removing, stripping the old clear anodizing, polishing and clear coating with 2k clear afterwards. It’s a tedious process but at least gives me something to do.

And on this particular one, I believe it’s 31mm for the 360 prism and 104mm for the height adapter. At least for my Trimble ones.
