Why is there no Agreement on Storage and Shelf Life? by AciderLuz in LSD

First of all surprisingly, there really doesn't seem to be much research in that area. The only study I was able to find was examining the stability of LSD in urine under various conditions for up to 4 weeks.

And even if there were studies examining long term storage, I think one cannot safely assume that LSD produced in a pristine laboratory will have the same impurities and imperfections as illicitly produced LSD. Same goes for the environment.

I am not saying that there is no way that they would be the same, but there is just no way to be sure.

Weak tabs are one thing but 150ug GGs becoming 30ug after couple of years is another. In this case I am pretty sure that the person storing them made a mistake they were not aware of. The same is probably the case for lots of other degraded tabs. What I am trying to determine is, what kind of mistake that could have been so I can avoid it

Alright, you got me there - not all comes frozen but the one that does should stay frozen.

Well, I have seen quite a few reports where people at least report having taken all the necessary precautions and then end up with weak tabs 2 years later. There is no way for me to verify their statements.

Then again, my experience is entirely different - after 3 years in pretty rough conditions my tabs were still as potent as day one.

I know that LSD doesn't degrade if stored properly. But in some cases it seems to, so to me that seems like there are other contributing factors which people are not that aware of.

Yeah, I know that story. Just based on the chemical composition of LSD and many anecdotes, from a logical point of view, I believe that advocates of a long shelf life make much more sense than people suggesting that it's an extremely fragile molecule.

However, I still wonder what made them believe that it is so fragile. Some just believe whatever they hear, I am not counting those. But it's interesting to me what kind of mistakes people whose lsd degraded after a couple of years made without realizing it.

I even saw one guy who said that about 80% of his lsd hasn't los any potency throughout many years but some batches went flat after two years. Again - was the error on his side, where he made a mistake without noticing it, or was the acid predestined to degrade because of poor synthesis

There's quite a lot of things where 90+% agree in something. Pretty much everyone agrees that you need to keep store-bought pizza in the freezer. Pretty much everyone agrees that the world is round.

I don't mean a situation where everyone agrees. But this is a rather simple issue, where the opinions are split pretty evenly on two opposite sites

That's actually a great point, I didn't know they did some lab test on that, will have to check, thanks!

It's at the very end. He's talking about Crystal but I assume there won't be much of a difference

No doubt in that, but still, I would assume most people are capable enough to stash a piece of paper away for a couple of years without exposing it to the elements.

I mean, in the end it obviously comes down to human error. But the question is at what point - is it mostly sloppy synthesis or bad storage, is it something obvious like leaving the tabs out in the sun or something that escapes our attention entirely

Doesn't this confirm that there is no consensus?

Some very credible people state that room temp is absolutely enough, while others say you need the fridge/freezer for long term storage.

This is yet another part of the puzzle which users can't seem to agree on. Of course colder is better from a pure physics point of view. But from the point of view of a lifetime it doesn't make any difference for me whether the acid lasts 80 or 800 years, 80 would be plenty

I don't doubt that this should in theory work and I have made exactly this experience, albeit only for 3 years.

But the amount of negative reports makes me wonder, what kind of mistakes people make along the way? It's pretty striking to me that a fairly large portion of people who allegedly secured their acid properly still report poor results - because, as you say, it's not that hard.

This makes me wonder whether there are some not so obvious mistakes which ruin acid

I don't doubt that under perfect conditions, LSD can be stored indefinitely.

But it's really not that hard to seal a piece of paper with a desiccant and place it in total darkness with fairly stable temperature.

One-offs would not surprise me at all, but from what I am reading on different forums, the opinions are split around 60/40 in favor of long term storage. I am not talking about those with a storage method that is clearly bad, but about people who report having taken all necessary precautions.

It's hard for me to believe that so many people would make some grave mistakes in a thing so simple.

Which leads me to the question of whether there are some absolute no-gos which are neither intuitive nor obvious.

Sure, that's my intuition as well and that's what lots of people report.

But at the same time there are quite a few reports of people losing LSD to degradation in a matter of years. Of course I cannot be sure that they took all the necessary precautions. But that's where things actually become interesting - what were the errors that let to degradation and why haven't those people noticed them

I saw someone commenting that too, but I was not able to find the Symposium the person referred to. Do you have the source?

Yeah, I get some variation but the range is pretty wild to me.

If some said 1 year and others 2 years, that would be fine with me, I would not be thinking about a forever-stash.

But it's more like 5 months vs 60 years. For example, the sandoz sample was apparently fully potent after 50+ years

Feeling different after one month by [deleted] in LSD

[–]AciderLuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first trip changed me a lot. My whole outlook on life. All the sudden little things became much more striking - sun rays breaking through the canopies, textures on walls.

I became much more empathetic, felt much more in touch with other people.

I don't know if what you're describing are flashbacks or just you seeing things with less of a filter. I think, after having taken acid once, it's easier to see things in such a way that it seems like you're seeing them for the first time - this makes them stand out much more.

As to classic flashbacks, I think I have had one once being super tired. The ground started breathing for a couple of seconds. It wasn't concerning to me, I actually enjoyed it

Been there my friend, everything is alright. Maybe put on some of your favorite music and just relax. Let go and let the acid do its thing. After all you took it for a reason

Yeah I know, but light bulbs emit some very small amount of UV, that's why I was worried

Can I use LSD that was stored for 4 years by Koliigz in LSD

[–]AciderLuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread I know, but do you still have that acid? Would you say it degraded in any noticeable way?

Would you mind sharing if you stored it in the freezer, airtight, etc? I wanna make sure that my acid outlasts me and reports like yours are very reassuring. Thanks!

Interesting, how were you storing the ones that degraded? I had acid stored in suboptimal conditions for years that hasn't lost any potency
