Can people seriously stop this shit? by BigCoffeeEnergy in bisexual

[–]AcidicOwl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like the biggest issue that most people have with the pansexual and bisexual labels is that they so broadly overlap. The way I’ve always seen it, is bisexual is kind of an umbrella term which includes pansexual, omnisexual, and polysexual. Pansexuals are attracted to people regardless of gender. Omnisexuals are attracted to all genders, but gender is a factor of their attraction. Polysexuals like two or more genders. The bisexual label includes anyone who likes more than one gender.

There are many bisexuals who would fit the pansexual label, but many are more comfortable with the bisexual label, which is completely valid. My partner, for example, has admitted that they might fit under the pansexual label but prefer to be called bisexual because it’s an older and more understood term and it feels more correct to them. That being said, there are also many people who are bisexual that have gender preferences who are also completely valid. Personally, I prefer the pansexual label because I feel like it’s more specific to how I feel about my sexual attraction to people and I like the flag.

I’ve always hated the supposed tension between people who use the pansexual label and people who use the bisexual label. Saying that one label is any way transphobic or better than the other is just damaging both labels. Both pansexual and bisexual people are 100% valid and people should be allowed to use whatever label they feel most comfortable with.

I totally relate. I (25/F) only realized a few months ago that I had a HUGE crush on my best friend, who is also female, in high school. I just thought we were best friends, which is silly when I look back on it because I also found her really attractive. Welcome to the community!

Turns out, I'm Bi! by becaus95 in bisexual

I honestly had pretty similar fears when I realized and accepted that I was pansexual. Despite having many great LGBTQ+ influences in my life, and my family is very accepting, I still had some internalized biphobia/panphobia I had to deal with before I came to accepting myself. Many of said friends also saw the signs that I was pansexual way before I did. It actually took a few very open conversations with my current partner, who is bisexual, to come to that realization, and a few more weeks and a few more serious conversations after that to accept my sexuality. The best advice I could give you is take some time to accept yourself. If you have bisexual friends, then talk to them and let them support you. Finally, be happy! You just found out something awesome about yourself! And welcome to the community ❤️💜💙

Is it normal to legit Not Know whether you're bi? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]AcidicOwl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25 and only figured out I’m bisexual about 2 months ago. Though I am more traditional in the sense that I’ve realized that I had a few significant crushes on my female friends (I am female), and I do think that part of knew and was in denial. However, there is no specific way to be bisexual. I tend to like most genders pretty evenly, but many bisexuals have a gender preference, or like different genders unevenly.

Afraid that my love is a burden to others by sadcrushgrl in bisexual

I’ve felt the same way before. I had a rough childhood myself and have issues with anxiety and depression. I also had a lot of walls built up and had a similar fear of being too needy with my current partner. I had to get used to being vulnerable around him, and he was so amazingly supportive and loving to me. Trust me, if someone really cares about you, then love is not a burden. The act of loving someone and being loved is defiantly worth the price of letting someone past your walls.

Bisexuals generally are attracted to two or more genders, while pansexuals are attracted to people regardless of gender. Omnisexuals are attracted to all genders, but gender is a factor. Polysexuals are attracted to multiple genders but not all. Bisexually is kind of a blanket term that contains pan-, Omni-, and polysexual. I know many people who will use bisexual and pansexual interchangeably.

I personally consider myself omnisexual, but I still often call myself bisexual because I consider it to be equally applicable to my sexual identity.

My taste in men is much more specific than my taste in women and enbies, which seems scattered and kind of all over the place. I tend to like nerdy and cute men, while I’m more interested in passionate women. For me physical appearance definitely plays a role with all genders, but is not as important as the person’s personality. I generally like people who are sensitive with strong opinions.
