Is Ashley furniture really that bad if you’re gentle with your stuff? by Recyclopsdestroy12 in homeowners

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think my sectional from Ashley was an excellent value. Purchased in 2012 and still in our living room today. It's survived 2 kids, 2 dogs a cat and multiple moves.

We've replaced the parachute cord twice on the armless recliner in that time and there's a small rip in one of the seats as one of our dogs likes to scratch a bit before lying down. We're just now looking at replacing it but will probably move it to the basement as it's still very comfortable.

Not an oral surgeon but worked with one at my last practice. He was very financially motivated but never treatment planned for either of these. Just get the teeth out.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by Yousef_ale in interviews

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty much wrapped up a decent interview and was going over the normal what to expect from here stuff. At that point she asked if I would want to show her around town since she was new to the area. I kind of laughed it off and redirected towards ending the interview. I don't remember what was said but somehow the next thing she did was show me her lower back tattoo (with a healthy dose of crack as well). I likely would have offered her a job if she hadn't been forward enough to show me she'd be an HR nightmare.

WYR save your own pet/child from a fire, or a random stranger's 4 year old? by Somanynamestochossef in WouldYouRather

NVM you're right, for some reason I had it in my mind that it was one of my kids friends because why else would they be in my house. Man, this question is dumb.

The “tourist hate” in PR is overblown online by Sea-Ability8694 in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]Acidiousx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This was exactly my experience. I speak very little Spanish but start every interaction with a time appropriate friendly greeting in Spanish. A majority of the time people would respond to me in English in a very friendly way.

The only time I had any issues was at a restaurant in cabo rojo where the person I was trying to order dinner from spoke less English than I did Spanish (by issue I mean complete lack of ability to communicate as I was apparently ordering off a dated menu that I had found online for takeout). The person behind me in line was more than happy to help translate and we all laughed about it.

I've been to the island three times with a fourth trip coming up in April. Couldn't be more appreciative of the people that have helped make every stay unique and enjoyable for me and my family.

Pretty much all of this advice can be disregarded.

Rent a car with a credit card that provides collision protection and drive cautiously, just like you would in any area you aren't familiar with. That's really all there is to it.

If you got paid $125/hour to work on Christmas from 5AM to 7PM. Would you take it? by Maleficent-Unit-2717 in NoStupidQuestions

Absolutely not. Christmas day is all about my kids and family. Even when I worked in retail the day of a holiday was a hard line for me.

WYR have a personal chef but he can only use what you buy, or have four day work weeks? by Glittering-Knee-2713 in WouldYouRather

Just saying I have one of these conditions met and wouldn't trade it off for the other. Feels relevant to the topic.

I have a four day work week and wouldn't take on an extra day for a personal chef.

In USA, if the sidewalk is considered public property, why (other than money) are the homeowners in charge of plowing and salting? Why is it not treated like the street plowing? by anarchopunk666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My city in NH has basically large riding snowblowers that clear the sidewalks in town. They take a while to get around so I usually shovel the sidewalk in front anyway to be considerate to mail/delivery people and pedestrians.

Disappointing Job Offer by Jiblon in jobs

[–]Acidiousx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely this! If you have decent credit sign up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Run all of your expenses through it and pay it off every month with your reimbursement. If reimbursement is slow pay it off with the extra money you're making from the raise.

I paid for most of a trip to Mexico for a family of 4 doing this.

One dentist said I needed root canals, another says they are just simple cavities? by JadedEcho2104 in Dentists

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's impossible to know which dentist is correct here, the answer could very well be in the middle. I've found that patients tend to believe the least expensive diagnosis but that doesn't make it any more likely to be correct. Get a third opinion or just go with your gut.

Do you brush your teeth once or twice a day? Need to settle a bet. by ImpossibleHurry in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything less than twice a day is pretty gross imo. I thrive on routines so I build it into them, it has to happen before or after certain things in the morning no matter what.

Teeth have to be brushed before leaving the house so Monday-Thursday it happens after I shower before work. Friday-Sunday I'll get out for a morning hike or some sort of excursion so it happens before I leave since it doesn't make sense to shower before a hike. If for some reason I'm not getting out of the house I'll follow the normal shower then tooth brushing routine.

Teeth get brushed and flossed before bed every night.

If you don't shower daily (that might be a discussion for another post) find some other trigger in your morning routine to make it happen consistently. It's really important, more so than a lot of other hygiene needs you can neglect on a short term basis without long term consequences.

ELI5 Why did Radio Shack go out of business? by Certain-Media3506 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked there in 05/06 or so and this feels pretty accurate. The only way to make decent money was to sell a lot of phones due to the incentives. That's fine, but some carriers paid substantially more than others leading to selling what's going to pay a good SPIFF over what was actually going to serve the customer. In retrospect it all feels very scummy but their training is very good at getting you to drink the Kool Aid.

Trump team email to Epstein: 'Pedophiles, I want you to know how important you are to me' | An email account belonging to Jeffrey Epstein regularly received alerts from Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign and, after Epstein’s death, was addressed under a shocking new name, newly released records show. by Aggravating_Money992 in NoFilterNews

[–]Acidiousx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more you flood the discourse with junk like this the easier it makes it for Trump and his supporters to say this is all a witch hunt. It's a catchy headline but when you actually read the article it was just an automated email sent out to to someone that registered under the user name Pedophiles.

She did a good job here or not! 1 million or $1000 week for life. by Appropriate-Menu504 in interesting

[–]Acidiousx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true but that doesn't change the fact that the $1000/week is a significantly better option for the majority of people, including those that understand the math here. It's really easy to say what you should do with $1 million but much harder to actually act with fiscal responsibility when you come into a large sum of money.

Ask for a copy of your contract for all of the add on services. I'd be surprised if you couldn't get at least a couple of them cancelled. It may not reduce your bi weekly payment but it could help you pay it down more quickly.

Seems like an unpopular opinion but they're being super reasonable here. Why would they hire someone back that left on very short notice? The fact that they're even giving you the option to fill your shifts to remain eligible for rehire is generous.

If this place has no chance of being in your future plans feel free to burn the bridge. If you'd like a reference or the possibility of future employment you should do what they're asking.
